British exceptional, versatile actress who portrayed the frumpy, put-upon Sheila Grant in "Brookside," November 1982-1990. After leaving the show, Johnston appeared in "Inspector Morse," "Medics," a feature film, "Brassed Off" and a traveling mystery series called "Crime Traveler" from 3/01/1997. After a rocky start, the series developed a strong, regular audience, and began to segue into the sensational themes of a soap.

Johnston separated from a second husband in 1979 and they divorced in late 1982.
