Clovis Hugues

French poet, journalist, dramatist, novelist, and socialist activist. Clovis studied for priesthood but did not take orders. He was sentenced to prison for 3 years because he published articles that were favorable to the Paris Commune. The Paris Commune was the first assumption of power by the working class during the Industrial Revolution. In 1877 Clovis fought a duel in which he killed his adversary, a rival journalist.
