Robert Rowe Gilruth


American aviation and space pioneer. He is noted for being the first director of NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center. He was involved with the United States manned space program, including the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs. Gilruth was married once and had one child. He died on 17 August 2000.
