French inventor. Forest played an important role in the development of the internal combustion engine and the motor car.

After an apprenticeship as a mechanic at Thiers (Puy-de-Dôme) , he moved in 1874 to Paris . He quickly became an independent inventor living on the rights of his patents. He was decorated with the Legion of Honour in 1912.

Among his inventions are six-cylinder engine, submarine propulsion and the first oil engine.
