French politician, leader of the French political party Europe Écologie - Les Verts (EELV). The party was created on 13 November 2010, through the electoral coalition made up of the original french green party Les Verts and members of the alliance "Europe Ecologie". On 23 June 2012 the EELV federal council elected Pascal Durand as the successor of Cécile Duflot as National Secretary.

His grandfather was an Italian antifaschist, his parents where political activists in the French communist party in Nice, active in the resistance during German ocupation. They were excluded from their party after 1968, when they opposed the Russian occupation of Tchecoslovakia. This left their son with a background of mistrust against the logic of any political apparatus.
