French-Algerian shooter who entered the offices of the Paris journal Libération on Monday, 18 November 2013, at 10.15 am. Dressed in a khaki coat and light blue jeans, he entered the lobby area of the newspaper near the Place de la Republique in central Paris. He immediately fired two shots from a double-barrelled hunting rifle into the back of a young photographer who was entering a lift. The shooter fled without saying a word. The young photographer (23 years) was gravely wounded. One bullet passed through a lung. He was said to be recovering slowly on Wednesday, but still in a critical condition, after a series of operation at the La Pitie Salpatriere hospital. On Wednesday Dekhar was arrested and identified via DNA samples.
Dekhar had been involved in a 1994 shoot-out by Florence Rey (born 25 August 1975) and her boyfriend Audry Maupin in central Paris on 4 October 1994 following a high speed car chase. The incident caused the deaths of five people; three policemen, a taxi driver, and Maupin. Dekhar was accused of having supplied a gun to the couple, was sentenced to four years in prison but was released soon after, having already served much of his time before the verdict. Then he moved to London's suburb where he married a Turkish in 2000 and worked for restaurants, and came back alone to France in July 2013.
