World War I German seaplane ace who claimed shooting down twenty planes and anairship; thirteen of those victories were confirmed. DuringWorld War II, he was the commander of the GermanWehrmacht in he Netherlands.

After the war, he was convicted as war criminals there to twelve years in prison.

He died 3 December 1972.
