French-born Swiss skipper, he started to sail with his parents aged of 4. Nine yeras later, he navigated all over the world... He won twice the "Route du Rhum", in 1994 and 1998, succeeding to Florence Arthaud. Surnamed "Le petit Prince de l'Atlantique", he pioneered the modern navigation.

His brother Yvan is also a skipper. Laurent has a son, Basile.

Disappeared in the Pacific Ocean on 24 June 2015, as he was practising deep sea diving. He was also a pilot and a driver (participating in Paris-Dakar rally).
