American metaphysician and author; Borysenko trained as a medical scientist and psychologist but followed her vision to bring science, medicine, psychology and spirituality together in the service of healing. A former biologist who taught at Harvard Medical School, as well as a licensed psychologist, she became the co-founder of the Mind/Body Clinic in Boston in 1981. Published in 1987, her first book, the best-selling "Minding the Body, Mending the Mind," led her readers through the program of the Mind/Body Clinic, which she co-founded in 1981 along with Ilan Kutz and Herbert Benson. She is also a yoga and meditation instructor, writing, lecturing, and leading workshops on the mind-body connection. Her work presents a holistic approach to wellness, and her publications bear such titles as "Guilt is the Teacher, Love is the Lesson," "Fire in the Soul: A New Psychology of Spiritual Optimism," "A Woman’s book of Life: The Biology, Psychology, and Spirituality of the Feminine Cycle," "A Woman’s Journey to God: Finding the Feminine Path" and an audiotape, "The Beginner’s Guide to Meditation." She is a member of advisory boards of 13 periodicals and organizations including "Yoga Journal" and "New Age Journal."
