Marco Avellaneda


Argentine politician, the governor of Tucumán Province, and father of President Nicolás Avellaneda. He was executed in Metán on 3 October 1841, aged 28, after an unsuccessful revolt against the Federal government, and his head was displayed on a pike. He was nicknamed "the martyr of Metán."

Josef Domingo de Echegoyen, bauticé solemnemente y puse oleo y crisma a Marcos Manuel, que nació en este mismo día a las dos de la mañana, hijo legitimo de Don Juan Nicolás Avellaneda y Tula y Doña Salomé González y Espeche..."

("In this Mother Church of Catamarca, on eighteenth June, eighteen hundred and thirteen: I the priest Rector Excusador, Doctor Dn. Josef Domingo de Echegoyen, solemnly baptized and put oil and christened Marcos Manuel, who was born on this same day at two o'clock in the morning, legitimate son of Don Juan Nicolás Avellaneda and Tula and Doña Salomé González y Espeche...).
