American astrological organization, National Council of Geophysical Research, March 6, 1971 at 9:02 PM in Wareham, Ma. It was incorporated March 11, 1971 at 12 Noon in Boston.

NCGR held a historic national education conference at Princeton University in August of 1979. It was the result of several years of preliminary planning and work within NCGR Board, begun under the leadership of Director of Education Ken Negus and was continued by his successor, Sonny Delmonico. Others notable in the organizational success of this launch of NCGR's Education Program were Joan Negus, Jonna Shannon and Lenore Canter. About 50 professional astrologers and teachers of astrology from throughout the United States, including delegates from NCGR's Chapters chosen for their abilities as educators, gathered for a five day meeting to begin the planning and implementation of the curriculum. After the framework of the curriculum was established at this conference, a National Education Committee of 8-10 members was entrusted with the task of creating and revising the tests, writing study guides, and giving examinations.

Joan Negus and Joanna Shannon, who became Co-Directors of Education, took the lead at the beginning of the 1980s and held regular committee meetings in New York City for several years, during which the curriculum was refined, tests were devised, and the testing and certification program organized and implemented. These two women will always hold very special places in NCGR's history for their years of dedication to the development of our program.

Slowly but steadily, NCGR's Education Program has grown, under the leadership of Helen Huber, who became Director of Education after Joan's passing, and now under Co-Directors Bruce Scofield and Jackie Slevin. Our program has withstood the test of time! Today, the Education Committee, now called Board of Examiners, continues the work of updating and revising the curriculum, and monitors what is now a large-scale testing and certification program that is internationally respected as among the most rigorous in the field.
