Israeli politician. She founded the Ratz party, was leader of the Meretz party, and served as Minister of Education from 1992 to 1993. In 2000, she won the Israel Prize.
She was described as passionate, principled, provocative, and above all path breaking, Shulamit Aloni has left a greater imprint on Israeli political life and public discourse than any woman to come of age after Israel’s independence. Aloni has emerged as the high priestess of individual, civil and human rights. She has dedicated her life to transforming Israel into an open, just and liberal society based on human dignity, tolerance for diversity and equality.
