French stage and film actor who starred in 40 films between 1918 and 1943.

In 1920 he starred in the film Champi-Tortu. One of his most notable performances was in Marcel L'Herbier's 1928 film L'Argent, as the corrupt banker Saccard.

He was the second husband of the film actress Gabrielle Colonna-Romano, and they are buried together in the cimetière de Rueil-Malmaison.

He died of cancer on 14 November 1957, aged 64, in Paris.

On 15 Feb. 2017 the birth time was changed to 9 AM, citing birth certificate quoted in Michaël Mandl's CINÉMA MUET collection: "L’heure indiquée par Michel Gauquelin est l’heure de la déclaration à l’état civil et non celle de la naissance." (The time of birth given by Michel Gauquelin is the time of the declaration to the civil register and not that of the birth).
