Biography
American baseball player and manager. He made his debut in the major leages on July 2, 1954 as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers. He played for additional several teams and made the All-Star team in 1961. After his retirement from the field in 1965 he became a minor-league manager and then worked as a base coach for the majors. In the late 1970s he became manager of the Boston Red Sox. The team performed well but failed to win a World Series. He has since held management positions with other teams .
In 1989 he was named National League Manager of the Year
