Wilhelm von Kaulbach

Biography

German painter, noted mainly as a muralist, but also as a book illustrator. His murals decorate buildings in Munich. He is associated with the Düsseldorf school of painting.

In 1837 Kaulbach was appointed by King Ludwig I of Bavaria as

court artist.

He is perhaps best known for his unusual representation of death, destruction and madness.

He died 7 April 1874.
