Austrian-Croatian diplomat and politician of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP). From 1949 to 1966, he was member of the National Council of Austria, from 1966 to 1968 he was foreign minister in the Josef Klaus government. From 1969 to 1974, he was secretary general of the Council of Europe. He died on 20 May 2005 in Salzburg.
