German noted family, the son of Evelyn Nesbit and Harry K. Thaw.

His mom had married his dad at 19 and was a witness to the shooting by her husband of her former lover, Stanford White, on 6/26/1906. The crime resulted in a sensational murder trial.

His mom died in 1967.
