Biography

American musician, singer, guitarist and blues legend, a performer all over the world since the late '60s, touring some 200 days a year.

Age 11 when his dad died, he aimed to make a career in agricultural farming. He started picking tobacco at 14 and put himself through school working on a dairy farm.

He has a rich voice that has turned to gravel from smoking.

He won Grammy awards for "Best Contemporary Blues Album" in 1997 and 2000.

On 22 May 2011, he received an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree from Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
