Biography

Austrian historian and writer.

Schreiber studied German literature, philosophy and aesthetics in Vienna and in 1944 got his PhD. After the end of World War II, he worked as an editor of the magazines plan and Austrian diary, and later as chief of France's intellectual and a partner in a publishing house. In 1951 he published his first novel. He wrote over 100 novels, essays, short stories and non-fiction books, partly under the pseudonyms Bühnau Ludwig, Ludwig Berneck, barring Louis and Lujo Bassermann. He is best known for his popular science works about historical topics. He also wrote biographies (including Augustus the Strong), country stories (The history of Scotland) and anthologies (The New World) as general historical treatises (the Huns). 2000 published his memoirs under the title of books, women, books.

Hermann Schreiber is the brother of the writer Georg Schreiber, with whom he also wrote several books.
