Biography

French jockey, winner of the Arc de Triomphe in 1970, riding Sassafras, 1974, riding Allez France, 1982, riding Akiyda and 1984 riding Sagace. This is the biggest race in Europe, held at Longchamp in Paris. The world's fastest thoroughbreds compete in the 2,400 meter classic distance (approx. 1 1/2 miles) This internationally renowned sporting event is the most highly prized competition for fans of flat racing.

He set an all-time record of 15 Cravache d’Or between 1960 and 1983. 1960 (110 wins), 1962 (106 wins), 1963 (172 wins), 1964 (184 wins), 1965 (142 wins), 1966 (170 wins), 1967 (155 wins), 1968 (138 wins), 1969 (120 wins), 1973 (117 wins), 1974 (121 wins), 1975 (125 wins), 1976 (109 wins), 1981 (123 wins), 1983 (125 wins).
