Biography

American baseball player, a right-handed catcher with the Detroit Tigers in 1942, and again from 1947 to 1949.

He was awarded a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts for his service during World War II, during which he survived the sinking of the troopship SS Leopoldville on 24 December 1944.

He died of cancer in Cleveland, Ohio on 16 April 2001.
