American artist, a painter whose works are soaring, mystical and enchanting. Watson's work has been inspired by the life and art of Russian painter Nicholas Roerich and his teacher, the nineteenth century Russian artist, Master Kiunji. Always versatile, Watson prefers working with oils.
Paul began painting as a boy when he discovered photo-tinting oils at age 12, with his first works emerging from his imagination and from nature magazines. Self-taught over the decades, his style emerged and deepened along with his personal growth of spirit. His mentor and guru, Ralph Harris Houston guided Paul away from ego expression into the beauty that is possible without and within.
As a young man, Watson married Brenda Hester; they had two children, Danny in 1961 and Sheri in 1965, but drifted apart. Formerly centered in the San Francisco area, the artist now lives with his wife, Lynne, and continues his work and development in the countryside near Etna, a little town nestled in the mountains of Northern California. Here he has established his studio in an environment well suited to his vista-scale, intricately detailed paintings.
