Biography
Canadian hockey player. An NHL goalie for 19 seasons, 1952-1973, with the Montreal Canadians 1952-1963 with five consecutive Stanley Cup Championships. He is the originator of the goalie mask that is now standard equipment for all goalie's. Plante earned the Vezina trophy six times and was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame, as well as The Canada Sports Hall of Fame.
A brilliant goal-keeper, called "Jake the Snake," he died of cancer in March 1986, Geneva, Switzerland.
