Biography
Hungarian patriot, a soldier, actor, journalist, lyric poet and author of short stories, dramas and a novel.
He gained notoriety with his publication of "Versek" in 1844.
His poem "Nemzeti dal" ("National Song"), read at a public gathering in Pest on 15 March 1848, helped inspire the Hungarian revolution of that year.
Petofi was presumed dead after a battle at Segesvár, Transylvania on 31 July 1849 at a youthful 26.
