Shelley Jordan quotes Leopold Mozart: November 14, 1719 "about the first hour of the morning"Augsburg, Germany from
Mozart: a Documentary Biography, p.4. Otto Erich Deutsch. (Stanford University Press, 1974)
The source for Deutsch is this:
Ein Schwaebishces Mozart Buch. Schmid, Ernst Fritz (Lorch-Stuttgart, 1948) Plate Ivb and p. 378, note 56. The information is in Latin. Deutsch translated the Latin into German, Blom then translated the German into English, I suppose. This is where my photocopy of Leopold's birth record came from.In January 2008, Shelley Jordan writes:I located a copy of Leopold Mozart's birth record in an old book in German that I ordered through interlibrary loans at the University of Wisconsin's Memorial Library. I photocopied the birth record, which was in Latin.
I translated it, along with my Latin teacher who is a classics scholar at the University of Chicago. I'm trying to locate the photocopy which I can scan and forward to you. It said, I believe, that Leopold Mozart was born in the first hour after midnight, which is kind of vague. I'd have to find an expert on Swabian record keeping in the 18th century to know exactly what the conventions are for that period (I have tried to no avail), but I translated it as 1:00 AM. PT translates the time by the convention of counting from sunrise; sunrise that day was on
