Sultan of the Ottoman Empire twice, first for a short time from 1444 to September 1446, and later from February 1451 to 1481. At the age of 21, he conquered Constantinople and brought an end to the Byzantine Empire, transforming the Ottoman state into an empire. Mehmed continued his conquests in Asia, with the Anatolian reunification, and in Europe, as far as Bosnia and Croatia. Mehmed II is regarded as a national hero in Turkey, and among other things, Istanbul's Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, and Fatih University and Fatih College are all named after him.
birth time quoted by Oner Döser on p. 23 of Astrological Journal 4/2013. By email he wrote on 15 July 2013:
"Attached, please see my reference on Fatih Sultan Mehmed's birth time.a book named Ottoman History Chronology. This is, of course in Turkish, but I highlighted related sentences for you in page 199. Here, it is said that two muneccims (Ottoman astrologer) casted the chart of the Sultan Mehmet. One of them is in the Suleymaniye Library, within Esad Efendi collection. The other chart that was casted by Muneccim Sa'dullah Efendi is in the Rasathane Library,
The second Muneccim gives a detail about his birth and states that he was born early morning at the time of "Seher", which means just before the dawn. He gives the time as "four past eight", but it is not the same time as we use today. "Seher" is calculated with the time between the hours of evening worship (night before) and the beginning of fasting ( in Islam, the time when the day´s fast begins during Ramazan). It is calculated by dividing that period into 6 parts and the last part is the time of "Seher". For March, 30, 1432, that period of time corresponds to 5 am approximately. "
