Biography

Italian soccer coach, formerly coach of the Juventus, one of the major Italian teams and a consistent winner.

Born in Viareggio, Italy, he played soccer as a child for the Star Viareggio boys team, and in 1970, he joined Sampdoria, playing as a libero. On 2/17/1971, he made his debut on the Italian Under-23 team. During 1981-82, Lippi moved to Serie B Pistoiese and then Serie C Lucchese, before returning to Sampdoria in 1984-85 as their youth team coach. From 1989 to 1991, he coached for Serie A Cesena, taking the team to 12th in the league; however, during 1991, he was fired.

Lippi started as a trainer in 1992, worked for Napoli in '93 and then signed with Juventus on 7/01/1994. Under his guidance, the team won the Italian Cup and European Cup each year from 1994 to 1999. In 1999, he quit his coaching position midway through the season.

Source Notes

Bordoni quotes news in Datanotizie No.18, 3/1998. She had been refused data from Viareggio but in the news of 4/10/1998 his date was given with the notation that it was "three minutes after midnight." Some sources give the 11th, but the actual date is the 12th.
