Mongolian world conqueror. A tribal chief at 13, he united the Mongolian tribes and established an empire in central Asia with a rigid military system, becoming one of the greatest rulers in history from 1211 to 1216.
During the 12th and 12th century, the Mongols were a nomadic people of the inner Asian continent who tended their flocks and raided their neighbors. They were surprisingly mobile with the sturdy shaggy ponies and struck without warning, covering long distances and striking with short, curves bows. In less than 50 years of raids, they became world conquerors.
The Mongols first attacked Russian lands in 1223 and made another huge raid in a three-year campaign in 1237, led by Genghis' grandson, Batu.
Time spec by Rodden. British Journal of Astrology Feb/1923 quotes Professor Brown's "Chahar Magala" for "A conjunction of five planets in the sign of the balance, on 29 Junada II in the year 582 AD."
"Blair's Chronology" noted that "1186 had a great conjunction of the Sun and all the planets on September 14th." A Persian poet in "A Great Tempest" predicted the birth at this time. Manly Hall gives the same quote in NAJ Aug 1933, adding "at night." September 14, 1186 OS = September 24, 1186 NS when the Sun and Moon are in Virgo and five planets are in Libra.
Morrell in AA May/1939 gives 1162-1227; World Book Encyclopedia gives 1167-1227. Penfield Collection gives 10/30/1162 OS, Delium, Russia, 3:20 PM LMT, "both date and time spec."
Blackwell wrote on 9/1984, "Pelliot gave 1167 but I have no source for this nor his reasons, which were in one of his books or manuscript on Marco Polo." In 1/1985, Blackwell wrote, "Rene Grousset's "Conqueror of the World," published 1966 by Orion Press says (on p.36), "Chingis-Khan was born in the year of the pig, 1167. His family were encamped at the time at Deli'-Un-Boldaq, close, that is to the lone hill (Boldaq) of Deli-Un, on the right bank of the Onon." On p.170, he says that the birth took place on the "upper Onon." Britannica Atlas give Onon river as 115 E.50, 51 N.42. The year 1167 is given in Paul Pelliot's "Notes on Marco Polo," p.281-288.
David Fisher quotes Cahiers No.100, p.262 for "Data in Review" for September 16, 1186 OS, 1:30 AM LMT, no place given, 65 E.00, 37 N.00, with a death date of 8/18/1227.
