Israeli politician and the 10th Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces. During the Six-Day War (1967), he commanded the division that penetrated the Old City of Jerusalem and broadcast the famous words, "The Temple Mount is in our hands!" As Chief of Staff, he had responsibility for planning and executing Operation Entebbe (1976) to free Jewish hostages in Uganda. He later entered the Knesset and held various ministerial portfolios. He contracted terminal cancer and committed suicide with a handgun at the age of 65 on July 16, 1995.
Sy Scholfield quotes Ascendant Sign from radio astrologer Ilan Pecker as quoted in a newspaper article ("PICK A DATE, ANY DATE," by Mira Helet [Shelley Goldman], Danny Ben-Tal & Helen Kaye, Jerusalem Post, 19 May 1989, p. 8): "The radio astrologer went on to develop this comparison between the State of Israel and the Tauran character while interviewing Minister without Portfolio Mordecai 'Motta' Gur. The former chief of staff was born under the sign of Taurus with Leo rising - which is exactly the same alignment as on May 14, 1948."
