Biography
British kidnapped baby, a newborn who was snatched from her cot at St. Thomas's Hospital in London when she was just 36 hours old. At about 7:30 PM on January 11, 1990 a woman posing as a health visitor tricked the child's mother into handing over the baby, saying she needed to be weighed. The kidnapper took the child to a home in Oxfordshire, where she pretended to her neighbors that the child was her own. Police caught the abductor and reunited mother and daughter 17 days after the kidnapping. Thirteen years later, the mother was interviewed for a newspaper article and told of the trauma suffered by the family. The child's parents split up when Alex was two years old and the overwrought and overly protective mother later attempted suicide.
