Biography
French novelist, essayist, journalist and theatre critic.
Gautier was prisoner of the Germans until 1941. In 1944 he was appointed as Secretary of the French comedy; held this position until 1946. In 1946 he won the Prix Goncourt.
He was elected to the French Academy on 15 June 1972.
He died 20 April 1986, Paris.
