Biography
French military, a general, a statesman and an author. He is remembered for his efforts in 1914 to prevent a German breakthrough on the Marne by enlisting Parisian cabdrivers to rush reinforcements to the front. He was Minister of War from 1915 until he died 5/27/1916, in Versailles, France. He was posthumously made Marshal of France.
