Biography
Italian cyclist who won the world cup racing the streets of Renaix 9/08/1988. From his debut at the age of 16, Fondriest had won 99 amateur class races before turning professional and winning the Tours of Catalonia in 1988. His position moved from 14th to 8th in the FICP-VELO ranking and he placed 2nd in the Amstel Gold Race also in 1988. He has achieved the World Cycling Championship twice and in 1993 changed from the team of Del Tongo to Panasonic, touring and competing internationally.
Fondriest is married to Ornella, they have one child and Maurizio enjoys skiing for recreation.
