American Olympic athlete, he was selected to be a member of the US Ski team for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. However he was forced to withdraw from the games because of illness. On February 2, 2010, he suffered stomach pain and was rushed to a Park City, UT hospital. His nearly ruptured appendix was removed the next day. Complications, including infection and a large abcess ensued resulting in additional hospitalization time. Just prior to his fateful illness, he was ranked second among Americans in men's aerial skiing.
