Biography

German-born Russian royalty, the daughter of Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and Princess Alice of the United Kingdom, sister of Tsarina Alexandra.

She married Grand Duke Sergei, brother of Tsar Alexander III, in St. Petersburg, Russia on 15 June 1884 and went on to orchestrate the romance of her younger sister Alexandra and the Tsar's heir, Nicholas.

Her husband was killed in a terrorist bomb attack in Moscow, Russia on 17 February 1905.

She was murdered by burial alive by Bolsheviks in Alapajevsk, Russia on 18 July 1918, two days after her sister and her family were shot dead.
