Biography
American world-class swimmer and record-holder who was born without hands or feet. His disability did not deter him, and he grew up happily in an athletic family, competing with similarly-abled people and trying out for the Paralympics. He took swimming lessons at an early age, and by his fifth-grade entrance, he was practicing and competing with the swim club with other physically challenged children. In 1999, Matt broke a 7-year-old record in his class by finishing the 100-meter breaststroke in two minutes and six seconds. An all-around athlete, he also pursues golf and wheelchair basketball. He is known for his determination, his sunny personality, and his positive philosophy that limitations are self-imposed.
