Biography

American attorney, the lawyer whom Gore hired in the Florida voting fiasco and who went against Microsoft for the Justice Dept, and who in on the side of Napster in their January 2001 struggle. Boies was interviewed on "60 Minutes on 2/25/2001. He is noted for his brilliance

and his hard work ethic, somewhat of an eccentric with a firm and decided ego. He describes himself as tenacious, never giving up...his wife confirms that, saying that he usually beats her and their son at tennis, despite the fact that he is the weaker player of the three. He just "wants it more."

Boies was considered slow in his early school years, before dyslexia was commonly diagnosed (which he has). He went to Northwestern law school until he was

"invited" to leave because he was dating the wife of one of the faculty, so he transferred to Yale where he graduated second in his class.

A workaholic, Boies thrives on long hours seven days a week, living on junk food including ice cream. He does not eat vegetables, or 'anything red'. (i.e., a club sandwich was served to him and because it had tomato in it, he did not eat it.) The only 'green' thing he eats is pistachio ice cream.

Boies is with his third wife (from 1983) who is also a

lawyer. He has six kids, three of whom work for his firm.

He buys a dozen suits at a time, from Land's End, at about $250 each (the point being, he doesn't dress expensively though his charges are very high), $750 an hour unless the case is "interesting" and it looks like it will change the face of the law. He waived his fee for Gore, and they said he charged only $50 an hour for the government against Microsoft. (He also implied that he could have won that case for Gates had he represented him.

For recreation, he sails, loves gambling, particularly playing craps in Las Vegas because the house has less control of the wins. He drinks little. Considered one of the top lawyers in the world today, Boies has been compared to Daniel Webster.
