Biography
French writer, philosopher, and literary theorist. His work had a strong influence on post-structuralist philosophers such as Jacques Derrida, Michel Foucault, and Roland Barthes. Blanchot remained a largely private, enigmatic figure throughout his life. During the war he was active in the Resistance.
He was a close friend with Georges Bataille and Jacques Derrida, and he was a prolific writer.
He died 20 February 2003, Le Mesnil Saint Denis, aged 95.
