Biography
American AIDS patient who shocked the nation in September 1990 when she came forward as the first patient who contracted AIDS during a medical procedure. Age 22, she had never used drugs, never had sex, and had never held a job when she was infected with the deadly virus by her dentist, Dr. David Acer. Bergalis went on a crusade for mandatory testing of health care professionals. She died the following year, 12/08/1991, 3:00 AM, at home with her family in Fort Pierce, Florida.
