Biography
American actor, one of the great comics of Vaudeville and the silent screen. He was the first to sign a $3 million contract. His career was destroyed by a wild party on 9/05/1921, during Labor Day weekend, at which an actress, Virginia Rappe, was injured, allegedly while having sex with the 266 pound Arbuckle. She died the following Friday, on 9/09/1921, and the autopsy showed death from cystitis. He was found not guilty in three sensational trials, but was never again accepted by the public, as he was totally blackballed. With the help of friends, he quietly returned to films as a director, under the pseudonym of William B. Goodrich. This career was short-lived by an attempt to return to acting in England in 1932, only to return to the U.S., disillusioned and heartbroken.
Arbuckle was married for the second time on 5/16/1925 to Minta Durfee. Died of a heart attack on 6/29/1933, New York.

Biography by David Yallop, "The Day The Laughter Died," 1976, p.14, "March 24, 1887 was a pleasant day in Smith Center. Wm Arbuckle and his eldest son Arthur were out working in the fields. From time to time Wm would leave his son and stroll back to the sod hut that was their home. He would stay a few minutes, then return without comment and resume working. At dusk they returned to the hut. As they entered, Wm turned to his son and said casually, "Come on over here and meet your new brother. . .Staring in awe at the 14-pound bundle, Arthur said, 'Oh Christ'"
