I would love to contact any NZ gardeners who plant by the moon.
I have researched available books and the web, and I see that tables and recommendations are mainly set out for the the UK.
I am a budding veggie gardener looking to exchange ideas.
Cheers

Linda,
A big thank you for your reply. I have found Bernadette Brady's website and I will get this book .and maybe write one of my own ..my life's journey should make a good read :-)
will leave you with the lyrics of a song from bob dylan that's been on my mind the last days ..

blowin' in the wind.

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

kind Regards,

Paul

I am so happy that we are getting more feedback lately and I thought I would share this experience with you as I never really understood the influence of Pluto - All I related it to is the underworld and shady. Today I read my horoscope and I have Jupiter square Pluto. (In a tight spot they claim). The resume at the bottom read: In some cases this influence can lead to legal conflicts and you should be very sure that any legal matters you are involved with are strictly ligitimate. Avoid any underworld or shady persons in any matter. Well, I was called by my cousin who is 92 to bring her to the hospital. She had about 100,000 worth of jewellery in her possession - she is very forgetful - so she asked me to take it and hold it for her. I have never been tempted to take anything from anyone but when she asked me to do this the first thought that came into my mind was to keep a ring or two. I did not do it and she eventually gave me a few pieces of her jewellery but wow was the temptation there. (Pluto - other people's resources and shady deals). Then she asked me to go to the bank with a cheque for 70,000. and bring that money to a Contractor (she had to pay for a large renovation to one of her properties). Was I tempted to take some of it and strike a deal with the contractor and not tell her. Thoughts like this never entered my mind before nor was I ever put in such a position. Again I resisted the temptation. The contractor never counted the money and gave me a bottle of wine for bringing the money to him and handed me one of the 100.00 bills. I believe this was a shady transaction but I went along with it but told my cousin about him paying me 100.00 and she said I told him to give you a tip. I don't want Pluto around and pray every night to dissipate thoughts of wrong doing but I can't explain how strong the desire is to be bad. It also said that I should not get involved in shady transactions as I might have to go to court. I read this after doing the transaction. Now I just hope I don't have to go to court. I could go on and on about how many things are happening with Pluto as it is in my 12th and I really never wanted to look at it that much as it is often dismissed as a shady planet. Now, I've been offered to steal golf balls from golf course lakes at night, and use my gard dog to watch so that we don't get caught. Can this be more plutonic? Underwater - night - stealing. And it goes on. Thank you Astrodienst for warning me it has made me very aware and stronger.

To Paul Sullivan, I suggest you read Bernadette Brady's book on eclipses - that will give you an indication of the flavour of the eclipse (by interpreting the eclipses chart and midpoints). You could also track it historically to see if you've had this eclipse before. Hope this works for you.

Dear AstroDienst My daughter is having her 23rd birthday on December 1, of this year. I want to get her a bound astrological report that is like your daily horoscope, but includes a natal chart and its explanations. Which report should I order, and will I have to order the natal separately?
Many Blessings, C. Lynecia Wright-Harris, VA, USA

Alois adds: Thanks for the inquiry. For the daily horoscope in printed format, please order the 'Personal Horoscope Calendar'. This is spiral bound booklet with about 220 pages, one column for each day, plus some more for days which have special importan transits.

The natal report is separate, and you should order the Psychological Horoscope for that.

Maybe you want to have a look at the samples. The PDF formatted samples will show you the reports just as they appear in print.

May I suggest you add void of course times to the personal daily horoscope?

Hello to anyone who found the P. Substanciae interesting and useful as did I!

Please email me agakimball22*frontiernet.net if you would like to discuss this Point of Substance in birth charts, a most important point in our relationships and with whom or what types we seek in this life, based on past lifetimes I do believe.

I am very sorry that Astrodienst decided to remove the Point from the list and calculations because, although little is written about the point, much is understood almost immediately by including the point and from using it and thinking about it and testing it can it be written about eventually.

Please bring back P. Substanciae or at leas explain how it is calculated to me.

I am 60 years old and have been working with charts since 1969. I wrote an Astrology article for Nature's Wisdom magazine for awhile and teach.

Thanks for reading this and share your thought on P. Substanciae with me and how you see it as important. I know that it isvery useful from checking the 100 or so comparison charts I had on hand the other night when I first noticed it on this dear Astrological site.

I was thrilled with my findings and asked a question of the Webmaster and found it was removed because so little or nothing was known. That made me so sad. We must work together and study this point and not ignore it please.

Most sincerely a devote of Astrology, I am Alice Kimball

I am very satisfied with my astro, but I sometimes wonder why the long time forcast, for instant, starting today, does not fit together with my dayly horoscope for the same day. And why do forecasts valid for several weeks pop up late in the periode it is valid for, sometimes even the last day?

I have always been fascinated by gardening almanacs and would like to try designing one of my own. I have done some research regarding how the moon's position in the zodiac influences planting dates, but I have been unable to determine exactly how the dates are determined. The editor of Blum's Farmer’s and Planter’s Almanac has advised me to look for an ephemeris to locate a published schedule of the moon's position in the zodiac as measured from the center of the earth. However, Blum's editor did not give me a specific ephemeris to look for, and I have been unable to find a suitable ephemeris at my local library. My own almanac can fore-go explaining the mechanics behind a yearly planting schedule, but it cannot do without the schedule itself. If I cannot find a schedule for at least a year in advance for each yearly edition or determine exactly how the schedule is calculated so I can determine the schedule myself, the entire almanac will be pointless.

I was directed to the Swiss Ephemeris, but I cannot make heads or tails of the charts. Can someone advise me as to what each column in the charts mean? Also, some almanacs simply give the moon's zodiac sign for each day regardless of how much time remains for the moon to be in that sign, but Blum's gives the moon's position within each sign at a particular time (USA Eastern Time) each day so the gardener can choose the time of day that is best for planting. Can the Swiss Ephemeris provide this data?

Alois adds: They have nothing to do with each other. One is an asteroid, a physical object observable on the sky, the other is a fictious (i.e. not existing in reality) factor invented by some Hamburg school astrologers, out of pure cupid phantasy.

This is a very interesting web site indeed, and I always read my stars because whether people like it or not, I think there is a lot of truth in it. I would also say that I am blessed with a lot of luck my self. But I always remember never to push your luck too far. They say better to be born lucky than rich, and who can argue with that. I have had a tough time in the past and plenty of time to reflect on it and so I beleive in the stars and read a lot. I like my predictions btw for the future. Thankyou.

bonjour,

The free horoscopes would be far more useful if you included the degree of orb for the aspects. This could easily be included in the data section. It would be a big help for all the horoscopes, but especially for the Partner option.

I think this site is excellent, and often recommend it to others. I find it really useful as a guide to current transits - especially the transits of Chiron and transits of other planets to natal Chiron. I frequently use Robert Hand's book, but have not found anything published which covers Chiron transits the way your site does. Who writes the text for them? Could it be published? I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be interested in buying a copy if it was...

Thanks for your comments Edna. I think you'll find a similar perspective on astrology in the likes of Robert Hand, Stephen Arroyo, Frances Sakoian and Betty Caulfield, Liz Greene, among others. Leastways, those are the authors I've learned the most from (and still a long way to go yet). That's one of the reasons why I like this site so much -- you'll find some of them here.
I do write some stuff. There's a blog and some general essays on my website (Google my name and location and you'll find me) that wander around in philosophy and world views, though not much specifically astrological.

Alois adds: These are elements of the Swiss "Huber School". They mark special points in houses (cusp, inversion point, valley point). You can read about it in Huber's books about the Age Point. I think there exist english editions.

To Anthony White:

You highlight two things. First, the fact that astrologers don't tell you exactly what's going to happen to you. Second, the existence of free will. You're correct on both counts, but you seem to have taken those two facts, polarised them, separated them into mutually incompatible ideas -- black or white, one or the other -- and derived the conclusion that astrology must be a nonsense.

You can look at it all that way, or you can look at it in a way in which there's no incompatibility. Polarities are just two sides of the *same* coin, after all. Two ends of the *same* magnet.

Astrology doesn't set out to tell you exactly what's going to happen to you. That's patently ridiculous. So your apparent expectation that this is what it's supposed to do is a bit wide of the mark. What it does is tell you what issues are in the offing -- ie. what coins you've got in your purse. How you deal with those issues -- how you toss the coins -- is entirely up to you. That's why the predictions illustrate outcomes that can go either way.

As for free will, take astrology out of the equation and look at it another way. Yes, you have free will, but only up to a point. Your free will is limited not only by your circumstances (where you live, what you do to earn a living, how many people you have some responsibility towards, the cultural values that you're surrounded by, etc) but also by your own personal nature (likes and dislikes, personal values, familial and societal beliefs you've taken on board as truth, etc). In other words, we all express our free will under certain constraints, most of which we're blithely unaware of for most of the time, presuming that our own particular individual view of the world is just how it is.

But it's only how it is for you, and the people you find yourself close to because they think like you. There's a multitude of ways of being and looking at the world. All those views co-exist on this planet together, regardless of what you personally might think about them, so it seems evident that reality supports them all -- ie. none of them are any more fundamentally right than any other.

Astrology can be an extraordinarily useful tool for gaining some insight into all of that. Not only can it tell you about your basic nature, latent talents and life challenges (natal chart), but it can also tell you when particular issues are likely to become a major challenge for you and something of the nature of the choices that are available to you. It relates to a level of order that's not so visible amidst the apparent chaos and randomness of daily life. But that lack of visibility doesn't mean the order isn't there. And note -- its language is symbolic, not literal.

Maybe you can accommodate it in your view of the world or maybe you can't. Any ideas that appear at odds with the dominant literal and materialist perspective tend to take a bit extra mental flexibility and open-mindedness to get your head around.

To Candice of Great Britain - With an Aries Sun and a Cap. Moon you are on the way to great things. Aries seldom finish what they start but the Cap. Moon stabilizes you and wants you to make money one step at a time. Just make sure you don't do too much navel gazing - too much sex - pushing your way to the top. You have the potential - now it's up to you. We don't know your age but things will happen around 40 - you'll see. Of course the rest of the chart is very important also.

Hi again... Can anyone out there help me with the best way to find the adjusted calculation date, for a progressed chart, I think I have the hang of it, but I would like to make sure I have it right. I would also like to send a note out to I.Scott who posted feed back here regarding what looks like a rather negative 14 year time period coming up. Please try not to worry, astrology is a map and it can give you a heads up about what may be coming up for someone in the future. And yes, sometimes these situations are ones you cannot do anything about, because they are a solid part of the life journey for that person. But a lot of what is predicted is changeable, it all depends on us and the choices that we make, we can chose to believe that a terrible time awaits us and allow the negative traits within us to come forward and become the force in the driver seat of our life. Or we can chose to try our best to allow the positive traits of our makeup to become the driving force within. No matter how bleak it looks down the road, there are always positives, it is up to us what we do with them.. I hope this helps and I hope you won't lose faith in astrology. Peace.

I have read a lot of the feed-back provided, some of it positive, a lot of it negative. Here is mine, and I have to say it is not of the positive nature. I have used the service for the last two and a half years and have a found the following. A lot of the positive information/ readings/predictions – call them what you will – tend to have their diametrical twins. For example

Making yourself clear
Valid during several weeks: This influence is generally good for the flow of ideas and communication between you and others. You are intellectually alive, curious and willing to learn. This is a good day to attend a lecture or a class in some subject. You are willing to have people challenge your ideas and thereby broaden your thinking. At the same time you are happy to share your insights on any subject. Thus all interchange with others today should be fruitful and expansive, both for yourself and for the people you meet. Travel is sometimes indicated by this influence, although usually not over long distances. In the course of daily business you may cover a lot more ground than usual. This is a good day for conferences and negotiations in which it is important to make yourself clear to others.

Transit selected for today (by user):
Mercury Trine Ascendant
activity period from middle of February 2006 until 28 March 2006.

You then get

Self-defense

Valid during several months: Past behavior patterns that have become completely unconscious now become active and come into play without your knowing it. Your efforts at self-assertion are undermined by these behavior patterns that you are not even aware of. And unfortunately the people who are alienated by these actions probably will not come out and say so, but will work behind the scenes to block your efforts. The only way you can counter this effect is to become completely conscious of yourself and these little self-defeating acts. If you feel emotionally upset, as you often will during this time, refrain from any kind of significant confrontation with others. Instead, confront yourself. It is best at this time to work alone as much as possible.

The interpretation above is for your transit selected for today:
Mars in the 12th House 12
activity period from 23 February 2006 until beginning of May 2006.

“This influence is generally good for the flow of ideas and communication between you and others.”
Vs.
“Your efforts at self-assertion are undermined by these behavior patterns that you are not even aware of. And unfortunately the people who are alienated by these actions probably will not come out and say so, but will work behind the scenes to block your efforts.”
These seem at least to where I am sitting to opposites.

There never seems to be a definitive trend – all trends are always hedged with their opposite. It seems like all good seers, the team at Astro Dienst are hedging their bets, playing both sides of the fence etc, etc.

It would be interesting to see a service such as this put it’s money where its mouth is and come up with a trend that is S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Result-oriented, Time-limited). Oh and definitive. This will of course not happen due to threat of a) being proved wrong and losing whatever credibility exists, and/or b) potential legal action for individuals taking action based upon information contained within the site.

Your future is yours to shape, not pre-ordained in, or affected by, some stellar interaction or influence. Nor is interpretable or explainable by the same.

Any feedback would be appreciated – use the forum.

Until then:

“To know the future is to be trapped by it, but knowing the existence of a trap is the first step in avoiding it”.

Alois adds: So your have two contradictorial influences at the same time.

So what?

Let's say neighbour A is nice to you, and the guy B at the other house hates you. It may not be smart, and you may want everyoine to love you, but such is life.

I seem to have some really long (18 months or more), nasty (Pluto square Pluto, Saturn conjunct Mercury, Saturn oppose Moon, Jupiter square Moon) transits coming up. I am confused about this because I did not think planets such as the moon moved so slowly. Can you explain to me why this is so? I am hoping that having all these transits at once will be a short-term rather than long-term experience. I am currently unemployed and it otherwise seems like I have a tough time ahead of me.

Thank you so much for reading this and for any comments you might be able to offer.

With love and peace,

I wish to thank Astrodienst for recognizing that people in homosexual relationships also enjoy using your website and it is very wonderful that you make readings gender-flexible. Maybe someday the USA will be so open minded. Thank you.

I am in the midst of doing a few synastry astrological relationship reviews. I have person A's ASC conjunct the B's DSC and A's DSC conjunct B's ASC. I have researched all the books out there and have not been able to find any information during research with regard to person A's ASC conjunct the B's DSC and A's DSC conjunct B's ASC within synastry. I can only intuit the meaning and I have many times, but if you or anyone else out there has personal experience with this in synastry please take a minute and write back to me. Thank you very much. The daily horoscope is really great. However, I got the phenomenon that I seem to be one day ahead, meaning that the predictions for tomorrow match today. Any explanation on that?

To all of you who are wondering on how to use astro click portrait. Just click on free horoscopes then astro click portrait and then on any lines. It's amazing how accurate and interesting the answers are. To me it's the best way to know yourself and if at first it doen't look like you, ask your friends for their opinion, and if they are at all in touch with your character they will concur the answer. To another person from England who is discouraged by his transits. It is not Astrodienst's fault that these things are occurring- it's the planets. To all of you who think that life is just a bowl of cherries - dream on - we are here to understand ourselves and grow. This is what astrology makes you understand. I have 3 signs in Pisces and right now Uranus is in Pisces so Uranus being the planet of surprise you can understand the surprises that are going on (loss of my mother, loss of money, clothes line full of clean clothes crashing down after a stupid painter disconnected it to move a ladder??, taking off a front door lock to paint and putting it back on backwards only to find a few young boys throwing pop corn all over our house and drinking our liquor, I'm glad they did as I found them asleep, having to spend 150.00 for a locksmith). You might say what's the big deal there but that's life. Having my Moon and Mars in the fourth house and transits with Jupiter in Libra passing my 4th and aspecting (opposition), these things are happening in my house. So if you understand this it sort of alleviates the drama. But with both mars and moon there (conjunct), you can imagine the temper tantrum I experienced. So you see this is how you understand Astrology. I'm not here to give you a course in it, but it may be a good idea to take courses and/or read books on astro. Then maybe you wouldn't write blaming such a wonderful site for what is happening to you.
If I sound like a preacher I have Sun conjunst Saturn so I'm very disciplined and can understand astro. Enough already. Asta vista baby.

The other day I made an accidental click on an AstroPortait wheel and a description of the Sun-Moon combination came up! I couldn't get it to happen again. Any clues as to how I might make this appear? Thanks as always for your wonderful site!

I asked this a few weeks ago and would like if possiible someone to explain the following:
I was born at 12:05 PM in Santiago Chile on 3/13/1957
. On your site my ascendant is Taurus.
On the Astro Mart site and every chart done over the years my ascendant was Gemini. which feels totally correct .
What is the reason for this discrepency?

I was wondering if anyone knows the birth time for Anthony Fokker, WWI aviator and inventor. I am studying his life and would like to draw an accurate chart for him. I know his birthday is 4/06/1890, born in Java (Indonesia), but have not been able to locate information on his birth time. Thank you for your help.

I would like to thank you for your excellent website.
My question is: the recently identified planet - what may be its symbolic value as far as birth horoscope interpretations are concerned and how will its position be located in birthcharts?

Thank you for any illumination you can give me on this.

Dear friends,

I have a subscription to your daily astro advice, which I find very useful. but today, for example, I got this advice: Jupiter Conjunction Venus activity period from middle of January 2005 until 11 September 2005.

It would be more useful to be advised of a transit such as this in January rather than 5 days before the transiting planet goes into station, for obvious reasons.

In any case, I love your site and particularly this service. But if there is a way to be advised of these transits when they go within a 5 or 3 degree orb, rather than waiting until they are exactly conjunct, this would be very helpful indeed and make your service perfect! :-)

All the best,

i wonder why have u give option event in Astro Click Portret if we cant use it?

Truthfully wish that I had not visited this site, the outlook for the next 14 years looks bad for a certain Scorpio. I note that all the hopeful and positive trends(possibly wrong word) seem to have passed me by.- For example when I find one, there seems to be only a short period remaining.
I honestly thought astrology was meant to be helpful and constructive? - Sorry not here!

Dear Alois. Thanks for an excellent website. I have tried to draw Cervantes horoscope, who was born september 29, 1547 in Madrid, Spain. However, astrodienst automatically switches to greg (gregorian?) time, even though after my knowledge (based on the information on the wikipedia website) the change from the julian to the gregorian calender happened in 1582, at least for several catholic countries (which among others include Spain, France and Italy), while the change happened in 1700 for most of the protestant countries (Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark). I am a little bit confused about this.

Alois adds: there is now automatic way to know which history book uses which calendar convention. See the FAQ Do you take different calendars into account.

To use Julian calendar, append 'jul' to the year, please.

hi! can you help me o find out which is the ascendant of a person who was born in Paris (France), on 4/5/1985 at 23.05h (pm)? it is always different in different sites!thank you very much!

one of the transits I was reading for today is:
Transit selected for today (by user):
Saturn Opposition Moon
activity period from 22 August 2005 until end of May 2006

The moon moves so quickly, how could it possibly be in opposition to anyting for nine months...

For this to be possible, Saturn (a slow moving planet, in a sign for apprx. 2.5 years) would have to move as fast as the moon (which changes signs apprx. every 2.5 days) or the opposite (the moon moving as slow as saturn)...

This is just one example of several I've found that just don't seem to add up.

Please explain.

Alois adds: Transiting Saturn moving over YOUR natal Moon. In the process, Saturn gets retrograde and moves over the natal Moon three times within nine months. This is as long as the issue prevails.

One thing you should NEVER assume in regard to ASTRO.COM: that we do not understand celestial mechanics and astrology. We do. We are the leading professionals.

I subscribe to your daily horoscope, which I find highly useful. However, I've noticed that you time the delineations to when the transiting planet goes into exact station. By the time this happens, of course, it is usually too late.

If we could have the delineations 5 or 3 degrees before the transiting plantet goes into exact conjunct, we would be better prepared. To be forwarned is to be forearmed!

All the best
