On the Natal Chart
what is meant by the following chart on the right?
F/c, F/f, F/m.
A/c, A/f, A/m.
E/c. E/f, E/m.
W/c, W/f, W//m. ??

I have not been able to see the answer from your FAQ's?

Many thanks for your help

Cannot tell you how much I DO appreciate your site and the wonderful freebies you offer so generously. I have been doing astrology (nuts and bolts, nothing fancy) for the past 24 years and have been constantly pestered for free charts and interpretation since I've quit doing it for a fee, and even then...
Now I simply refer them to your site and hope that by doing so you will get business developed as a follow-up. All that I have referred to your site rant and rave. One comment -- for those of us who live at northern latitudes, the choice of House System would be of tremendous help. I particularly favor Porphyry.
Thank you so much for all that you offer.

Alois adds: We do offer choice of house system in the extended chart selection. For all chart drawings, that is.

We do not offer a house choice for readings: we reserve the right any selfconscious astrologer will claim for his/her readings, to select the technique by which a chart is read. If someone wants a reading by a different technique, the only way is to consult a different astrologer.

It is peculiar, given the extensive scripting on your otherwise excellent website, that you do not provide the opportunity, when entering data for the brief online birth chart, for calculation in the Equal house system.

Many astrologers now recognise the Equal house system as the only truly appropriate system to use, given the fortuitous historical and political (i.e. non-astrological) origins of quadrant systems such as that of Placidus.

Are you not able to provide this - or have I missed it?

Best wishes for the future,

Thank you so much for this wonderful site I am truly amazed at the accuracy of your forecasts and predictions, particularly for my 2 sons who are going through their own personal problems at this stage of their lives. My daughter in laws will be able to now work together with them in helping them to achieve their true selves. Once again thank you for the wonderful site which I am going to recommend to family and friends.

Hello Alois As usual best regards to you and your team for the very generous service you offer us all. Is there a way to re-organise the 'My Astro' entries into alphabetical order with surnames first? Also, is it possible for you to have a default setting for a chart for 'today', which could be added to the 'My Asto' section so that it defaults to place and noon for instance? See...people always want more! Thank you anyway.

I love this site!
Thank You for providing a wonderful informative
in depth approach to the understanding of Astrology.
I have a question for you...
Today Venus(in Aries) begins to move again in the heavens. I
believe it had stalled for a while not really going into retrograde
motion. In your opinion if while Venus is in direct motion and stalls
for a couple of weeks, can it also stop all of the affects that it had
brought forth while it was in motion? Especially if Venus(the planet
of love)in Aries, in transit sets off your natal 5th or 7th houses?

I ran your site's free reading and I have a question about it. It said that because the ruler of my ascendent (libra rising) is in the 7th, and because venus is also conjunct mercury and opposite the asc, that I sould very well be an extrovert. This simply isn't the theme of my personality (I scored a perfect 30 on introvertedness in the meyers-briggs personality test). How can my chart say that I'm an extroverted person when I'm not? Is there something else in the way? I'm really confused.

Here is my birth info:

Born: March 18, 1985
Time: 7:32 PM
Place: Calabasas, California

Thank you so much. Love the site, too!

Andrew

Andrew [ hro1954hotmail.com ] (visiting www.astro.com)
Boise, USA --- Saturday, April 28, 2001 at 02:27 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: It can say that because not everything an astrological author writes, or an astrologer says, has to be correct. A lot is right, a lot is outright wrong.

Liz Greene, for example, says that she CANNOT read intro/extravertedness from a chart. Many other astrologers - including some whose text we use in the free chart services on our site - claim they can. There is not a unified body of rules and teaching in astrology. Astrology is more like an art, where each painter paints in a different style and with a different focus.

I can not begin to express to you what a valauble service you have provided me, and those I happily serve. I'm something of an astrologer, however have no formal training and am so very grateful that you allow me access to the information that I need in order to serve myself and others. Blessed Be! If I may be of any service, please email me and let me know what I can do.

Hallo! What a fantastic site. I do like the reading of me and my families horoscopes, but my youngest sons ascendant will become an Aquarius when I allways thought of him as Aries ascendant. let users input latitude and longitude

I hadn't visited your site in quite some time, and now find that it is even better and more 'user friendly' than ever! (Thanks, keep up the good work!) My question relates to your fascinating 'Astro-Twins' section: I found it very interesting that my astro twin and I are both professional artists. I can't help wondering if we might have other interests in common, similar backgrounds, or significant parallel events in our lives. Is there any way we can get in touch with each other or at least find out a little more information beyond name, age, and occupation? Also, how do you find the astro-twins? Are they taken from a large data bank or are the names only drawn from previous visitors to this site?

Am studying and reading and very much appreciate this site. I have had a vision I want to share to see what other astrologers will say. I haven't seen this yet in my reading. Look at the fixed grand square chart as laying on the ground flat with the person standing in the center. Then look at the transiting planets hitting the four angles of the square and creating immense trines and blessings to work with the tension and almost entrapment force of the square. Then see that as a holographic of this person's life ... and it is like they are standing in a pyramid. I have got two friends with this unusual configuration and I am hoping they can meet. They do not know one another. The only person I have heard of who had it is Chairman Mao. I wonder if anyone would comment. Please write me if this resonates with anyone and talk astrology.

Holographic pyramids maybe. I got this flash from struggling with the square then reading the transit reports on this site. Also Alice Bailey calls this the 'cosmic crucifixion' and says it's an initiation. Thanks everyone!!! Sylvia

Hello!
I LOVE this site: its content, purpose and design. I have been coming here regularly for over a year and have witnessed many changes (all for the better).
However, this feedback section seems to be a lesser priority in terms of design -- it still holds a look that is not as pleasant as the remodeled site.
It is just a detail, I know, but such a change would give more consistency to the overall webdesing...

Debora Dines (visiting wwx.astro.com)
, Brazil --- Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at 20:04 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: You are right, there is more urgent work to do than prettyfying the feedback area. Currently we work hard on an improved shopping function, and on moving the services to a new 'server farm' because the current server often reaches its capacity limits (in the late afternoon, Swiss time, when both the Europeans and the Americans sit in the office and run horoscopes; once the Europeans go home from work, the overload usually resolves).

I have never found any stars next to my transit periods. What does that mean? Also, I have noticed that my transit periods sometimes describe COMPLETELY opposite states of mind. Why is that?

salma (visiting www.astro.com)
NY, U.S --- Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at 19:59 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: At nearly all times there are contradicting transit influences. It is impossible to say which one - if any - will be predominant. It is like permanent April weather (in Europe; I don't know how stable April weather is elsewhere).

I am a Gemini and have Pluto opposite Saturn. On an earlier daily horoscope it said this aspect would remain until November 2001. It now posts that it will remain until November 2002!! Can this be correct???

Jean [ jainstalweb.com ] (visiting www.astro.ch)
Tallahassee, USA --- Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at 17:17 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: Not seeing both, I can hardly comment. If the earlier one was last year, it might be that the software did not look further ahead than 2001, so it did not see yet that the same transit is still going on in 2002. The look-ahead in the daily horoscope covers always the current and the next calendar year. Some rare transits however can extend longer.

I think this site is fantastic and since I have found it I check it every day and have passed it on to others. I have much respect for Liz Greene and Robert Hand and everyone else who has worked so diligently at creating an excellent, specific astrological guide. I have a few questions if possible. 1) I am trying to determine what lines will be in effect in the South Pacific in French Polynesia. Is it possible to make that area more legible? 2) Also, is it possible to determine how far reaching each line's effect is? In the past through astro cartography I believe it was 300 miles in either direction. Is it the same or do I reference degrees? Thank you for your assistance in figuring this out. Much success and blessings!

Hi there!
Everything is perfect, but the map of New Zealand in the section Astro travel appears on the World map only , and it's too small!
Could it be added to the Australian map or ...?
Regards, Z.

Zoran (visiting www.astro.ch)
Wellington, New Zealand --- Sunday, April 22, 2001 at 13:45 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: The spatial precision of the technique is not a high as you might think. You need to allow for a 100-mile orb to the left and right of each line. When you take that into account, the resolutionof the world map for New Zealand is qite sufficient. Jim Lewis, the primary proponent of this technique, never used anything but the world maps for his readings.

In the extended chart selection, you can set the size factor to 150% for a world map with higher resolution. It does not come with clickable readings, but lets you locate the lines better.

I am a daily user and truly appreciate the talent and work that goes into this site. I have been reading your forecasts for years and would like some clarification on the following excerpt from 'Saturn conjunctions MC' because I am so lost and this paragraph had confused/depressed me. It reads as follows: If your preparation for this period of your life has been sloppy or full of shortcuts, or if you try to avoid its increased responsibilities, you run the risk of losing everything, even in the areas where you have prepared well and have taken responsibility. Could you please expand on this statement...? What should I have prepared for and what should I do so that I won't repeat in 7 years? Your insight is valuable and appreciated. many thank you's!!!

Alois adds: Robert Hand, the author of our transit interpretations, considers Saturn's movement as a cycle which takes 29 years; each quarter step in this cycle takes about 7 years.

I recommend you get yourself a copy of Hand's book 'Planets in Transit' which contains the full text of what appears abbreviated in the daily horoscope and the short forecast. It will allow you to read up the meaning of the complete cycle at once.

I love your Web site. I was wondering, is there a screen saver or other program out there that would show a constantly turning wheel that signifies all the planetary positions? Much like an astrological clock...

Dear Alois,
First of all congratulations as usual for this great service. After reading Liz Greene's forecast for the Netherlands for 2000 I tried to get the chart of the country but if I put 26/7/1581, 12:00 pm Den Haag I see that Astrodienst uses the Gregorian calender.
When I do the same with Solar Fire I have no possibility using the Gregorian calender since they automatically switch to Julian. That way I get an ASC of 0 deg. Scorpio 32 and a MC 11 deg. Leo 21. Since I find both systems of high quality I wonder which chart is the right one.
Beneath the explanation Solar Fire gives in its help options.
When this option is selected, Solar Fire never displays OS (old style, Julian) or NS (new style, Gregorian) suffixes on its dates. When this option is in effect, any date on or prior to 14 Oct 1582 is an OS date, and any later date is a NS date.

I would be grateful for an answer. Happy Easter to all the staff and thank you for your continuous support.

Thank you Liz for your great commentary on the film Gladiator. It certainly touchs mythic themes, including Mars and the beauty in a fully expressed Mars energy. I am married to an Aries man and fell in love with him again after reading your interpretation of Mars in full, passionate flight.

I was also struck by the film's theme of fulfilling ones destiny, how there's almost no choice in doing that once the call has been heard. No matter what Maximus did, or what happened to him, he could not escape his destiny as a warrior, a strategist and a leader of men.

I was also very moved by notions of duty in the film - duty to family, to nation, to god, to ancestors. As someone who is accutely aware we are living at a pivotal point in terms of living sustainably on this beautiful Earth, I sometimes wish I wasn't so bound by my sense of duty to a life outside my own personal gratification. And yet I know that when I am living from this place there is a truth and an integrity to my being that's hard to express.

Anyway, thanks so much for the review and your interpretation Liz. And all the best Alois for the site - I've been a member for a number of years now and I LOVE it.

Hello,

Please, how might timezone and daylight savings skew the figuring of a rising sign? For example, my friend was born on 10/22/70 at 4:39 PM in Riverside (Duval County), FL, USA some reports say her rising sign is Pisces, while others say her rising sign is Aries. Does this confusion have to do with timezone and daylight savings?

I was interested in your career reports until I read one of the samples. I read the one for Bill Gates and while reading it I became confused because so much of the information seemed like it was about me. I had to scroll back to check and make sure it wasn't a sample report for me and that it was actually a report for someone else. I'm not so sure about paying 50 for a report now, seeing as I really don't see how I could have so much in common with Bill Gates. Are they that general?

Heather [ heathervnychotmail.com ] (visiting www.astro.com)
New York, USA --- Thursday, April 12, 2001 at 15:55 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: No, the reports are not general. But they describe a lot about the the inner reality of a person. For a celebrity person, their inner reality often does not at all agree with their public image, their public mask. I doubt that we know much about the inner relality of the Bill Gates person, because his public image as 'richest man of the world' and 'vicious competitor' and 'shameless plagiator' is so strong. Inside, he may indeed have important personality traits which are similar to yours, if the horoscope says so. Knowing neither you or Bill Gates from close up, I cannot say. I doubt whether you can, because you also know only one side of the equation.

I was hoping that you can give me a better perspective on my mars conjunct neptune which trines to my MC. (9:19 AM Manila, Philippines aug. 23, 1967) What career is best for me?) Your site and insights are really educational. Congratulations!!! Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.

I am inquiring about an order I placed over two years ago for Relationship, Psychological, and Projection reports by Liz Greene. Reports for both my husband and self. I never received them. The address they were instructed to be sent to was HC 01 XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX. 96748 They
would have been paid for by American Express or
some other card. Much has transpired since that
time and the majority of all personal belongings
were burglarized or destroyed. Could you please
check your records? I remember the order was
acknowledged and was going to be sent by mail from
England. It never came, and interim, our worlds
blew up The data was XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Would you be so kind as to check your records, as
mine have been lost and I am not in the position now to repay for them, but I would like them. Thank you for your time and consideration to my request. I am so impressed with Liz Greene's work. She never ceases to amaze me. She sure knows how to peel the onion I read everything that she has written that I can get my hands on. I live on a very meager fixed income now, so I can't just buy them and take them home. But we have big bookstores that don't mind that you sit around and read what they have. I own 5 or 6 myself. I really feel connected to her. I don't know why, but I do. Again thank you.

Hi!
I really enjoy your site it's great to see so many well-respected astrologers in one place. I don't know if you answer this type of question, but I can't seem to get it answered anyplace else. My natal Pluto is at 26 degrees 52 minutes Virgo. My son, who was born in respiratory distress and has nearly died several times has his Midheaven/IC axis at exactly this degree. How significant is this? Or can you tell me where to find this out?

A suggestion:

On the daily personal horoscope pages, show the exact degree of the Full Moon and the New Moon (since you already show when there is a Full Moon and a New Moon on our pages). In fact, it would be wonderful to have access to an ephemeris of the Moon showing the degrees of New and Full Moons for each month....

Can you tell me the name of a horoscope construction method that uses sidereal cusps but traditional western planet placements? The first astrologter I consulted in the mid-1970s used it, and a successor astrologer accepted it for interpretive use, but all others have used western for cusps and planets. Thank you.

hello there

question: can one also find out what starsign my partner has to be to suite me the most??

my dates: 30.11.74, 21.10, paarl (southafrica), living in switzerland since 1980, so geneva is my prefered city

elena [ sdltelekurs.com ] (visiting www.astro.ch)
geneva, switzerland --- Thursday, April 5, 2001 at 09:53 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: Because there is much more in your partner's horoscope than the sign of his Sun (9 other planets and a lot other stuff), this question makes not sense. It also depends very much on what you are looking for in a partner (not everone looks for the same things). Please get a copy of Liz Greene's book 'Astrology for Lovers' and read it through. Then you might have a better idea about the sun-sign side of personalities and make your own observations and decisions.

Hi. Is Varuna considered a new planet - or like Chiron, a new Centaur?

For those asking questions about Varuna, I don't know a great deal about it (see question above lol)..... but the rules of Astrology generally work like this: since Varuna is an outer planet beyond the orbit of Pluto:
1) By it's Sign placement, it will be a generational influence, i.e. millions of people will be born with Varuna in the same sign and thus Varuna in that sign will be seen as trends within society
2) By aspects to personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) it will show up as traits not applicable to any other planets in aspect to those same planets
3) By it's House placement Varuna's influence in a chart can be seen as which part of life it's effect is felt most closely (e.g. 7th House = relationships, 10th House = Career etc.)

Examination of charts (e.g. usually of prominent or famous people) which have close aspects (conjunctions particularly) to a newly discovered planet can reveal the faces of that new planet, and this is usually compared to What is going on in the world at this time? (i.e. Pluto was discovered, depth psychology through Freud and Jung was just taking off, Atomic power was discovered etc.) to reveal it's significance in world affairs. This is coupled with that curious other synchronistic effect - that non-astrologically oriented astronomers often name new bodies with a mythological name, the myth of which turns out to be similar to the effects of the new planet. Thus the myth, world events, and personal charts of prominent people are used to discover the effects of that new planet/oid.

Mythically, Varuna was the pre-vedic Indian Lord of the Cosmos, governer of cosmic order (note we have just moved into new fields in quantum physics - and of the inidivisibility of the universe). He is the cause of all, and knows every thought (which seems perhaps linked to Uranus?) and his name means to cover i.e. as the sky - which might further point to Uranian themes. Since he is keeper of the celestial waters there is a Aquarius link here again - perhaps this is linked to the Age of Aquarius (the Water Bearer). He is also the cosmic punisher of word-breakers who is also the cosmic hangman (and Varuna is beyond Pluto, which is the planet of death and resurrection). His guardianship of the cosmic waters was not succesful and they were stolen, and Varuna was demoted to a god of the oceans and rivers. He is connected to the Moon.

This would suggest that there may be some form of connection to the mind (thoughts) and the emotions - perhaps Varuna is some midway point between the meanings of Uranus and Neptune..... We can only wait and see what other researchers turn up.

Hope this is helpful (and also that I haven't trodden on your toes by writing this Alois....)
Best wishes :-)

I noticed in the forecasts that you use the transits of the more slower bodies. this is fine with me. The point is that when you say that Jupiter will square my Sun radical, a few minutes of arc earlier, Jupiter will have an exact trine to my radical Mars, and this one is not acknowledged. Is there a specific reason for this?

Dear Alois,
sometimes I find, certain aspects between planets are not marked in the chart drawing (L. Greene style) and not mentioned in the aspect category at the end of an analyses or drawing.

Are aspects which are not mentioned in these ways considered nevertheless in the readings (or strictly only any mentioned aspect)?

Suppose certain aspects between important planets fall very slightly only outside the usually considered orb, would you PERSONALLY still consider these aspects?

Could you please say something to the following examples?
1. composite chart: Moon in sextile to Venus (but
with orb of 9 Degrees)
2. synastry: Mars in trine to Venus ( with orb of
6 degrees)
3. natal: Mars setile Saturn ( orb 6 degrees)

I was only wondering if the orb was too much. But another example is a composite with Saturn opp Chiron (with 7 degrees orb), which is marked as an opposition. I would be thankful, if you can clear this question.

Also, which book would you recommend on Synastry ?

Thank you very much in advance.
With best regards

Alois adds: Our server sends a chart image which your browser shows. If your browser can display it on the screen, this proves that the image is good. The type of bitmap image we use contains only the pixels you see on the screen, there is no additional information which somehow could affect the image's behaviour on printing.

Printing is a process between your browser, your printer driver and your printer. If there is a problem, please contact the manufacturer of any of these three units for help. Maybe your computer is infected with HCSV, but most likely some setting in your browser's print dialogue window is not as it should be.

But you also might want to consider this incident on the symbolic level. Is there anything special about this horoscope, which you do not want to see, or which does not want to reveal itself to you? Have you had any bad thoughts in regard to your printer recently, e.g. thinking about "retiring" it and getting a new one? In my experience, such plans can evoke malfunctions. It is better to keep such plans secret from your computer (remember HAL?).

Finally, you might consider today's date. Your computer may just pull a 1st April joke. A bit premature, considering that at the time listed above it was not yet midnight in California, but maybe our server, who runs in a different timezone, talked him into it.

[HCSV = horoscope colour stealing virus]

I'm interested in becoming a astrologist myself and I was wondering if I would make a good living as one. I thought you would be the best person to ask. I would really appreciate it if you would comment on my question.

Marcy (visiting www.astro.com)
, Canada --- Sunday, April 1, 2001 at 03:43 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: An interesting question. I think you should approach it differently. For example, when you want to become a writer, there is no point in writing to the most famous one and asking him/her whether he/she can make a living. Or if you want to become an actor, you don't ask Michael Douglas whether acting pays his meals. You need to ask 'your neighbourhood actor' or 'neighbourhood writer'. Their situation is likely to be closer to your own reality.

There are astrologers all over the world who make their living from astrology, but it is hard work and the chance of success is small. Most students of astrology never make it to the point where they can live from it. It is not a profession one should consider as a way to make a good living. Some people who offer astrology training may want to have you believe this. Don't.

The best is to get a solid training in a 'real' profession, i.e. medical school, a degree in psychological counselling, or another field which deals with people. When you then add astrology on top, or on the side, your chances are much better than the a pure astrology approach.
