With changes to specific locations of planets (including ours) throughout my
lifetime, how do I know that my profile or any other forecast or astrology
reading I get is still valid? Wouldn't my chart have changed along with the
movement of earth?

This is regarding a previous message that I sent about the negative
influences that the daily horoscopes always present. What I was really
trying to say is that the transits or influences should also show the
positive aspects along with the negative. Everything can't be negative all
of the time and that was all I was trying to say. My horoscope reading from
yesterday was basically negative, today's horoscope is very negative and
tomorrow's is somewhat negative. When I look up my future forecast, once
again, NEGATIVE. I am planning to get married next year and when I look up
that particular date, all of the influences are negative again. Hopefully
you can see where I am going with this. Peace and Love.

Astro.com saved my life. If I hadn't listened to my horoscope on one
particular day. I could be an innocent victim of random violence. Well, that
day I was supposed to be standing right next to my friend who was randomly
shot in the face. THANK YOU ASTRO.COM.
If I may ask a favor...could you update the forecast option.

Hi,
I very much enjoy your site and find it to be quite accurate! Only, I have
noticed that the horoscope is off by one day! I am in the PST and have many
friends in the same time zone that have commented on this...which is just
weird, since it doesn't go with the automatic change in the time zones.
For example, I now read tomorrow' horoscope to find out for today. I know
three other people who do the same thing! We all agree that the horoscope is
dead on...BUT one day off!
I wonder if any one else has experienced this?

Hi, I've bought several reports from this site and have found them very
useful. I have a suggestion re a payment method that can be added to your
options: have you considered PayPal? It's fast, safe and more convenient than
bank transfers or sending cash for those without a credit card ,and/or
wanting to open an Astrodienst account. It would be great to see this
feature available here. Thanks! =)

Actually this is more of a question for the sidereal astrology experts than a
comment on the site (though I do love how the site so beautifully integrates
all manners of astrology, sidereal and tropical). Does anyone know,
statistically, which anayamsa is more widespread in its global usage, Fagan
Bradley or Hindu Lahiri? Does anyone ever use the median between the two
(approximately 29 minutes) when faced with the dilemma of which to employ?

I cast a chart using my Solar Fire program for a new friend who was born
April 5, 1957 in Taipei, Taiwan at 4 pm.
Unsure about the daylight savings time, I also cast the chart using
Astrodienst.
Astrodienst gave me 2 Virgo 50 rising, where Solar Fire had given me 16 Virgo
18 w/o daylight savings time and 29 Virgo 54 with daylight savings.
All the data is the same! (One minute difference in longitude.)
I did two other charts at the same time the same way -- one for San
Francisco, and one for Cologne, Germany -- and the results were identical in
the two programs.
What could I be missing in looking at the charts for Taipei??

Alois adds: According to all source I can find Taiwan had Daylight Savings
time from 1 April to 1 Oct in the year 1957, which shifts the timezone
form the normal GMT+8h to GMT+9h. This is what we use in the chart
calculations, and we are rather sure it is correct.
If you have a different documented source (not an astrology program, but
some printed or reliable Internet documentation) we are happy to learn about it.

Ben G r e g o
Columbus, OH, USA --- Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 09:44 Universal Time
Alois adds: I am sorry you are disappointed. We believe that the full length
of the text in the daily horoscope is necessary to transport the meaning.
There is a cross reference index in the final pages, and for many of the
alternative transits you can find their reading on another day. The 'long
term influences' for each day carry already the pointer to the calendar date
where you find their readings.
About the images, taste differs, like with all art. Many readers and visitors
to our website find them inspiring, our own staff included. You had an
excellent chance to see these images both in the online daily horoscope, as
well as in the sample report linked from the shop area, before ordering the
calendar for yourself. You really could have seen beforehand what you were
going to order.
About renewing, it is anyway more economical to subscribe to the 'extended
daily horoscope' online instead of ordering the printed calendar. With the
ubiquitious internet access of these days the subscription is often as
easy to use as a hardcopy edition, and offers of course much more information,
because web space is not limited in volume - you can always scroll and use
links to more data.
If you find yourself becoming gloomy and anticipating something bad happening
because of a difficult transit you still have several options. You could not
read the forecast because it may make you anxious. You may be prone to
anxiety because of your natural predisposition and the difficult forecast
then turns up the volume on your natural anxiety. You have to own up to what
you, yourself bring to the table. What you do with the information is up to
you. You are in control. Anxiety is unpleasant but in these times may be
appropriate. Auden called ours “the age of anxiety.”
Even if you don’t realize it the war in Iraq, global warming, the hole in the
ozone layer, the uncertain elections, North Korea playing with nuclear
weapons like the sorcerer’s apprentice, Iran secretly sponsoring terrorism in
Africa, the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, and 30,000 children dying all over
the world every single day because of poverty and starvation and not having
medication may work on you unconsciously and make you feel anxious or
depressed or even outraged. If you didn’t feel anxious, depressed or angry
you would be truly out of touch. Congratulate yourself that you are alive
and connected.
You could also read the forecast and not be alarmed so much as be forewarned.
What you do with the information is in your hands. Again you have to take
ownership. As an example, today I have transiting Moon opposed my natal Mars
and the forecast is discordant energies (Mars) with regard to personal life,
my home, and women (Moon) emotional excitability easily irritated less
tolerance, contentious mood. What I do with this information is breathe and
relax. I sit back in my chair and say to myself that small aggravations are
not worthy of losing my cool. I think with Moon opposed to Mars there may be
a reason my emotional body is irritated and fired up. I may have to actually
get irritated or angry because there may be cause. But I don’t want the
irritation to come upon me unconsciously so the forewarning increases my
awareness. It’s like biorhythms. At some times in the month I am prone to
irritation, other times I am prone to being calm and peaceful. Still other
times my inclination is to be restless, or distracted, or nurturing or
secure. And next month transiting Moon will oppose my natal Mars again for a
day.
Consider what Shakespeare says in Julius Ceasar. “The fault, dear Brutus, is
not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings. This is not a
dismissal of astrology as so many have argued. It is a plea to take
ownership for your own part in the scheme of things.

This is my feedback: I would have a great day and I will go back and look at
the forecast of my horoscope and only negative things would be there or if I
would look up a future forecast for a particular day that I planning to do
something fun, it will always be something negative and it's a turn off
sometimes. I'll find myself feeling glooming in anticipation of something
bad happening.

Before I said “different human drives agree, by their very nature, with
particular areas of your life and they are out of their element in others.”
Upon reflection this is not the best way to explain planets with respect to
the Signs they inhabit.
It is actually the Houses that describe distinct areas of your life. And
traditionally a planet is more at home in some Houses just as it is more
compatible with the qualities of some signs. Mars in the 10th (natural house
of Capricorn) is said to be powerful because the initiative and competitive
energy of Mars has an appropriate outlet in the area of your career and your
standing before the world. You could think of this as ambition. The concept
of Accidental dignity corresponds to a planet in a house that is the natural
house of that planet’s essential dignity. Mars is accidentally dignified in
the 1st (Aries) and the 10th (Capricorn). You can see where the competitive
even combative instinct of Mars may have difficulty in the 4th (Cancer) or
the 7th (Libra).
But an astrological Sign does not really correspond to an area of your life
so much as a set of attributes or qualities which affect or color the way
that Planet is expressed. According to the concept of Essential dignity, a
planet is compatible with a certain set of qualities and incompatible with
its opposite sign's qualities. The attributes of any Sign will affect the
planet contained there and Mars in Cancer may not be weakened so much as it
is influenced to assert itself in nuturing ways. You can see where a
nuturing way to express initiative may not be appropriate on the battlefield
but maybe highly appropriate in a hospital emergency room or a clinic for
abused women. I hope this helps.

correction: Mars is Fall in Cancer, not detriment. His detriment is Libra.
A planet is detriment when it's in the sign opposite it's domicile or home.
It's in Fall when it's opposite the sign of it's exaltation.

In the Table of Aspects under the Astrodienst Style chart, the small numbers
refer to the distance in degrees the aspect is from exact. The small “S”
means separating from exactness and “A” means applying. The green aspects
are inconjuncts, either semi-sextile or quincunx. All the aspects including
their symbols and many other answers are readily accessible under the
left-most column of the Astrodienst homepage. Go to ‘Understanding
Astrology’ and then mouse Aspects for explanations about aspects.
Like studying math, you can not be spoon-fed some of this information and
have it be effective. You have to go through the exercise of working these
things out in your own mind. I could tell you how to solve an algebraic
equation but it would not help you the next time you had to solve one
yourself. In the same way I could tell you Dom means domicile or home. And
that planets resonate with particular signs and have difficulty with others.
Mars rules the sign Aries and Mars is Dignified or at Home in Aries because
the Martian drive is in accord with the characteristics of Aries. Aries
takes its meaning from Mars and the sign has the same forceful, pioneering,
aggressive, courageous, masculine, driving, competitive, fiery qualities of
its ruling planet.
Mars at home in Aries is like placing Achilles in a battle. It’s his natural
place and he shines there. Put him in a different environment and his
indomitable nature is out of place and brings about trouble. Achilles does
not shine in the home, Cancer’s domain, where peace, security, support, child
care, nurturing, empathy, expressiveness, and sensitivity are appropriate.
In the home such a character would seem a tyrant. Not only is hard on the
home to have such an aggressive character as Mars living there, it’s hard on
Mars to find comfort there. Mars hates having to be nice, gentle, sensitive.
It’s an imposition which goes against his very nature. So we say Mars is in
his detriment in Cancer. The warrior can not swing his sword around in the
home without breaking the vases and the lamps or slicing up the babies.
Different human drives agree, by their very nature, with particular areas of
your life and they are out of their element in others. That is the intent of
assigning dignities (home and exaltation) and debilities (detriment and fall)
to planets. If you study the Planets and the Signs this will make sense to
you. If you rely on my explaining it to you it will not. Nobody can really
explain what it is like to travel to Paris or how sweet it smells in Spring
once you get there. In the same way you can only attain understanding by
taking the journey yourself.

This might be a very simple question but I have tried to read about it and I
can't find the answers. On the bottom of natal charts, in Astrodienst Style,
there is a chart with steps to compare the different planets to each other.
What do the numbers positive and negitive mean and what are the letters for?
I understand what all the aspects are except for the Geen ones and the Black
ones, like bQ and the square with a angle on top of it. What do they mean?
Also I need help on what terms like Exalt., Detr., Dom., and Fall what do
they mean and when do they change. I am not a total beginer but I skipped
the things I didn't understand a while ago and now what to go back and get a
better understanding. I just need some defininations and a little
explaination to get over my mental blocks on these terms. Anyone can contact
me directly with answers to these questions or any information on how to use
the charts in the advanced chart section. Thank you so much.

But the matter that brings me to you now is of a different nature. With the

mailing list swisseph@groups.yahoo.com and not here.
Please understand that you are talking about a library of functions written in
C and (for windows) compiled into a classical windows DLL. It is quite
possible and well documented in the VB.net documentation how to call functions
in classical windows DLL out of the more modern framework. The functions
provided are well documented, and straighforward to call and use. They do
not really contain anything which needs to 'be updated' - they work with any
environment. And you can use also the C source code directly, and compile it
yourself into your application, if you prefer. All the flexibility is there
for you.

Alois adds: You need to look at the house cusp. Your second house begins at
12° Gemini. The ruler of Gemini is Mercury, which therefore rules your second
house. And while you ask: Both the cusp of house 3 and house 4 are in cancer;
therefore the Moon rules both of these houses in your chart.
I was born at 9:06 p.m. July 15, 1960. I like to check (free) Astro because
my horoscopes are more detailed than anywhere else. I look to my horoscope
for a little bit of help, but on Astro I find only frustration and
discouragement. If you check my horoscope for today, October 12, 1006, you
will see what I mean. Far more often than not, I read stuff like this on
your site. Now, it's difficult being a Cancerian, but I find that the
downside of an effect is borne out only extremely rarely. I am always
reading about how it's going to be a bad day, and how an effect will make me
irritable or impatient or crabby or depressed or uncommunicative or distant
or cause me to lose some kind of control... it doesn't happen. Life is very,
very good, and I am pretty consistently happy with a high desgree of positive
energy. Is there something I'm not getting? Or is your astrologer
neurotic?
In sum, could we lift it up a little bit and keep the sytematic dire warnings
down some? It isn't necessary for my day, before it happens, to be clouded
by gloomy negativity. I know it's not lala land out there, but it can't be
all that bad either, and it turns out that it never is.
What is missing?

Hi,
I must say the services offered by ASTRODIENST are of excellent quality. It is
an exhaustive site which is of immense value to astrologers around the world.
It is especially very useful for astrologers who would like to compare one
system of calculation of horoscopes with another. The best part is there are
also many options to cast horoscopes both by the western and sidereal zodiac
systems.
However, there is a little difficulty in casting horoscopes for specific
Latitudes and Longitudes. Presently the option available is to get a
horoscope by the name of a place and its country. Astrologers who are doing
extensive research need to have horoscopes for specific co-ordinates so that
they can dig into the manner in which the charts change when co-ordinates
change by a constant value both across latitudes and/or longitudes.
I, personally wanted to see how the MC changes for different latitudes on a
specific date at a specific time. However, I was unable to log in the
latitudes or longitudes as the option available is only for place of
birth/event. It will go a very long way for research in astrology if this
feature is introduced in the system.

Dear Liz,
I am an astrologer working with Vedic and sidereal data mainly, however,
striving to create a system using some Western elements such as exact aspects
and outer planets. I have perused some of your books as well as Robert Hand
and Stephen Arroyo to help me with this perspective.
My main question is the fate of Hungary. I saw that you prepared a mundane
chart based on the new system inaugurated on 10/23 1989, 12:00 a.m. I wonder
if that says something about the current unrest and the impossible
restrictions masses will face next year in economic terms. I also wonder if
you would consider a second date for casting a chart. Obviously the new
system is a point of departure, however, the last Republic was announced
after WWII on February 1, 1946, around 9:00 a.m. That chart with Indian
techniques would tell you the exact timing of the Soviet invasion of the
country in the morning of November 4, 1956, after the unsuccessful uprising.
There could be arguments that that is a valid chart even after the so-called
system change, especially in view of the fact that the same people rule now
(and have been in power between 94 and 98 as well) as did under Communism
(albeit freedom of expression has indeed grown). This is true in sociological
terms (they constitue the present oligarchy of the country) and in terms of
inheritance: the same party (MSZP, earlier MSZMP) was elected again in 2002.
Our present PM is actually a guy who led the Communist Youth Organisation
before the system change, and amassed his wealth by appropriating some of the
property of that organisation to start his capitalist enterprises in 1990. I
wonder what you could say based upon the 1946 data?
Do the current unrests make sense in either chart with Western techniques?
What does the wisdom of ancient European archetypes would tell Hungary
now?
What I read about is the Pluto-Venus transit (which occurred between 2000
January and 2004 February, taking a 5-degree orbis on both sides, peaking in
the Fall of 2002.)
Warm regards,

Could you please explain what is meant by true node under the planetary
positions. I have looked at the explanations for the other planets, but True
Node is missing.
Thanks

hi Kent,
I believe the two main points I am trying to make about using modern
iconogrpahy/mythology for naming newly discovered astral bodies has eluded
you. basically I am trying to express that:
A- as cultures evolve, mythology does so along with the culture and
B- any culture's mythology is expressed through the eyes of that culture and
is most appropriate and understandable to its constituents because it is
visualized and conceived of by it.
First I have to start off by saying I love the ancients- I have been
fascinated by Greek mythology since I was 4 years old and was obviously
compelled to astrology because of this love. That having been said, regarding
point A, I'd like to remind you that Greek mythology had centuries to ripen
and was built on millennia of earlier cultural mythology. I'm sure the first
expressions of it were perhaps as clumsy as the first Superman comic book. By
the time of classical Greek civilization there was much for the great minds
of the age to express- and these were great minds that gave us our lexicon to
be sure.
So, keeping in mind this point A, let's explore point B. Let's find another
time ripened bit of non-Greek cultural mythology- let's find something
non-American. Are you British, Kent? Why don't we take a look at the
Arthurian legends? Do you find this mythology as redundant and impotent as
current American mythology. Actually, I believe that with the 1000 years of
ripening, there have been some brilliant expressions of this mythology and I
can think of one author who I can't say is as brilliant as Sophocles, but I
can say that she manages to express my point exactly. The point being, that
as culture evolves, new archetypes emerge and mythology evolves to express
them- perhaps more easily seen in hindsight, after the mythology has had time
to ripen and can be interpreted by a brilliant mind (as has been the Greek).
So, regarding the Arthurian mythology- Marion Zimmer Bradley writes of
Lancelot in a very powerful way. She writes of a faithful, dedicated man in
love with his king. She writes of a homosexuality buried deeply in servitude
and misplaced onto Arthur's wife. This aspect of sexuality doesn't exist in
the Greek lexicon. Homosexuality is written freely into their mythology. In
the Arthurian legend it is expressed rather differently- a new archetype
emerges as homosexuality becomes tabooed in the Christian age and is still
relevant today. This is merely one example in perhaps volumes of differences
between our culture and ancient Greek culture.
Certainly, I believe in the core archetypes defining Sophoclean and Jungian
man, and unquestionably our current astrological system is perfect in its
expression of these archetypes. But, as we move forward- as our culture
evolves and has over two thousand years since Homer (who had centuries of
culture and evolved mythology to express when he wrote) we have an
opportunity. We have an opportunity to name newly discovered astral bodies to
express the finer points of new and emerging tendencies in our culture.
Perhaps Superman and Xena are myths that are too new or perhaps those
elements of our culture that they are expressing have not yet solidified into
'archetypes' but that does not mean that we haven't changed as a culture.
Certainly, men do not take young boys as Zeus did Ganymede, yet there is an
asteroid Ganymede. Modern culture expresses homosexuality much more in terms
of Lancelot than it does in terms of Ganymede and who knows- maybe there is
even room for both. But I hope just this minor example gives you at least a
glimpse into my mindset in terms of the opportunity we have keep up with the
times, to let astrology evolve JUST as Greek mythology evolved. I believe
that if Sophocles and Homer had written 500 years later, much would be the
same, but much would be different too- sure, many core human tendencies and
archetypes would be the same, but some would be more complex, some perhaps
atrophied and discarded.

Alois adds: Please, move this privte discussion either to email or to a
discussion forum. The Astrodienst feedback page is not the right place for it.
Your reports are well detailed and very interesting covering relationships,
forecast, profiles etc. However, there is no section that covers
career/business aspects which is a very important part of our lives and
livelyhood. Is there a reason for this omission?
thanks. AP

It would be interesting to have an Astro Click Health or including health in
some other chart such as where to travel for better health.
