Alois, thanks so much for your prompt reply. I guess I'll get two separate
yearly horoscope analyses for the kids, and the discount on the second one is
greatly appreciated.
You're right about returns, of course. They are just transits, period, and
sometimes that does get forgotten, including by me. Thanks for the
reminder.
Sincerely,

Dear Alois - I have twin nieces born ten minutes apart, and am considering
ordering some of your reports for them for Christmas. Their natal charts are
identical except for the degrees on the house cusps (the signs on the houses
are all the same, and the planets don't change houses). I don't know
anything about programming, but in a case like this I would assume that the
reports would be identical. Is this so? If that is the case, do you think
it would be okay to order a Psychological Horoscope for one twin, and a
Yearly Horoscope Analysis for the other, with the idea that both reports
would apply to both girls?
My problem with this is that, while they may look identical, and even seem
very similar in personality to people who don't know them well, they actually
are quite different in some ways, and events don't necessarily happen at the
exact same time for them (as a result, I assume, of the differing house cusp
degrees). For example, last spring one of them was accepted into the
university they both wished to attend, while the other was not, and since
they wished to go together, neither went.
I know you have twin daughters, so I'd appreciate your opinion.
By the way, with regard to the discussion on tertiary progressions, I'd just
like to say that in my experience they're a very valuable technique. I know
it's undoubtedly too abstruse for you to add to your arsenal of freebies, but
for anyone out there reading this who hasn't tried tertiaries, I have found
that they work very well. I use them now on a regular basis, sort of as a
replacement for lunar returns, which I found unreliable i.e., sometimes they
seemed to work spectacularly well, but other times not at all, and if you
can't rely on a technique to give consistent results, I throw it out. (Ditto
for solar returns!)
Well, that's my opinion, anyway, as someone who used returns for years, both
lunar and solar: they don't work (not consistently). Try tertiaries!
Thanks, Alois.
Sincerely,
Pam

Alois adds: Please see the FAQ section on twins.
I checked your twins, and their Psychological Horoscope really comes out the
same. The Yearly Horoscope Analysis for the 12 months starting this December,
however, has considerable differences, both in selecting the 'most important
themes of the year' and in the timing of some of the important issues.
If you order reports, we charge only 20% of the list price for the second
copy, for the other twin. My experience is that twins each like to have
their own copy of things, and dislike having to share gifts. They have to
share so much already on a daily basis.
Regarding Solar and Lunar returns: fundamentally, they are transit charts,
and derive validity from that. Only if you use intepretation techniques
for return charts which go beyond reading them as transit charts, your are
in open territory.

Something odd among the daily aspects. It looks like I have a trine
Saturn/Jupiter, but I do not. The program must be doing something strange!
Saturn Trine Jupiter
Moon Opposition Moon, exact at 16:23
Moon Trine Mercury, exact at 01:46
Moon Trine Sun, exact at 03:57
It's not a problem to me, I know that I do not have that aspect, but I think
you would perhaps like to know about it.

I was wondering if you plan on adding tertiary progressions anytime soon?
Jim W i l l i a m s
USA --- Saturday, November 29, 2003 at 17:33 Universal Time
Alois adds: No, we do not use or plan such things. Our free web chart services
are not intended for the technically oriented advanced astrologer. For these
(numerically small number of) people, we recommend full blown astrology software
like Solar Fire or Kepler.
The services we offer on our website are targeted at a wide audience of
people interested in astrology, and focus on more basic chart types. If there
are other - not really basic - chart types among the selection, it is
somewhat accidental. We happened to have these items in our software, so
we chose to make them accessible. We are however not expanding in this area,
i.e. we put no fresh energy into writing sofware for particular types of
calculations used by only few astrologers. The only exceptions are: if a technique
interests me or another member of our programming staff personally, or if
we have a well paying customer for a special task, plus spare time.
PS: I don't even know what tertiary progressions are. I have been told
several times, but I keep forgetting... Well, we have an 'astro dictionary'
in the left column, and I looked it up - thanks, Matrix, for that great
dictionary.
I am wondering if there is a book that illustrates the very wide range of
ways the same transit can manifest. For those of us who tend to the worst
case scenario, expecting the catastrophic, and feeling an uncomfortable
degree of determinism, or fatalism, it would be useful - to gain some
breathing room, to have some reading material which illustrates the vast
range of ways a particular (especially difficult) transit can manifest.
Could you recommend any such material?
Thank you for your wonderful site,
Mira Khazzam

Alois adds: I would say, life illustrates that. About a book, I don't know.
The concepts with which astrology works are mostly symbols,
and by their very nature symbols have a rich complexity of meaning. For a deeper understanding of astrological symbols, on as many levels of expression as possible, you have to study and practice it. This is not done by reading 'a' particular book, but by reading 'everything', and by working with the information activly, observing
people, studying people, their lifes and their charts.
This is the 'material' which
I would recommend, as a response to your question.
I love your site and was wondering whether you have any plans of adding a
midpoint list category anytime soon?

I would like to know what parameters are used to define a transit on your
site, as far as degrees are concerned. For instance, my American Ephemeris
shows Uranus in Pisces at 4 degrees 15 March 2004 through 2 April 2004. On
the short forecast this is shown as occurring 3 March 2004 through 2 April
2004. I have noticed other descrepencies, and can find no pattern. At this
point it looks to me like your dates are incorrect.
Brenda M c E l v a i n
Denver, CO, USA --- Thursday, November 27, 2003 at 17:11 Universal Time
Alois adds: You are not looking at the precise figures. You need to look at
both, natal and transiting planetary positions, by degree, minute and second.
The orb we use in various of our products and services varies, following
different rules defined by the particular astrologers involved. In the
'short report forecast' and the 'daily horoscope', we use mostly an orb of one degree (3600 seconds of arc), left and right of the natal position.
The only incorrectness in this matter is in your thinking, I am afraid.
Hallo!

Alois adds: Das persönliche Radix fliesst sehr stark in die Jahresanalyse mit ein;
in Betracht gezogen.

direkt sichtbar. Im Anhang hingegen ist es deutlich erwähnt.

I would like to know if there is reason for the lack of sharing by Liz Greene
of her birth details. I have been an avid studier of just about all her
publications and also those joint books with Howard Sasportas, which have
been of enormaous help to me sorting out my life's hiccups. I am self taught
in astrology and have been studying since 1969 with the guidance of books by
most of the more well known astrologers and a program by John Halloran, yet I
find it more than curiopus that Liz Greene seems to have avoided the exposure
of her birth details. I did send this request some 18 months ago and received
no reply. I found that not in keeping with the general, professionalism and
knowledge available on this wonderful site. Thank you for the service and
information you provide. Patricia Neild

First, let me congratulate you for your beautiful website. I love using
it.
As a long-time student (25 years) of astrology, I have been a keen follower
of Liz and Rob's own brand of wisdom. I own most of their books and attended
20 years ago, a lecture that Rob gave in Toronto. I still find them to be the
most solid references around, Rob for his ability to provide clear single
delineations and dwelling into the forgotten, Liz for providing me with
inspiration over the year... I too am a storyteller.
Of late, though, I have encountered the limitations of some of this work. Let
me give you an example. I quote here the Chiron conjunction Moon aspect
delineation: From antiquity up until the middle-ages people often used a
technique known as healing or temple sleep (or so-called incubation), to help
them reach a deeper understanding of themselves or try to alleviate
suffering. Elaborate preparations preceded such ceremonies: ritual cleaning,
prayer and meditation were carried out to prepare the dreamer for the coming
experience. If anything happened - which usually meant making contact with
the appropriate deity - this often resulted in an illness being cured or the
discovery of a solution to a problem.
Even if we no longer believe that Gods have the power to heal or induce some
kind of rebirth, our dreams can still reveal to us the underlying causes
behind our psychological and physical suffering. However, in order to achieve
any kind of healing effect we need to remain open, make the necessary
preparations, and it may even help the process, if we find an appropriate
place to sleep.
I now know, from personal experience, that , if you have begun a mystical
journey as I have, some of the aspects can and should be interpreted
litterally. The Chiron conjunction Moon that I am experiencing right now is
not a dream. I am visited by the Goddess in her many aspects, a harlot, a
mother, a lover and a child and she provides her wisdom directly to me. I
feel her power within me, as described in many places as part of the
Kundalini experience or similar experiences. It is most likely true that most
of us (as I did until recently too) experience the gods through our dreams.
However, it is a mistake to deny their existence and present it as being
merely symbolic. Maybe it is time to lift the veil.
Respectfully, Christine

First, i would like to share my appreciation for providing
interesting, thought provoking daily horoscopes without
cost or hidden charges to the public. However, could you

in negative way. Thankyou.

USA --- Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at 17:05 Universal Time
Alois adds: The same transit can happen at different dates, a) because planets
go in circles and make the same transit angle again at another day
b) because some planets turn retrograde, and go over the same point several
times, making the same transit on different days.
Our system tries to avoid repetition by choosing a subject is has not yet
talked about to you in the same year, but sometimes there are no alternatives, so
it talks about a repeating subject, lacking a new one.
I was recently looking up charts for a friends 4 month old twin boys, born 11
minute's apart. They have all the same info, including rising sign of Taurus.
I know they would not be identical in every way. How do I go about looking
further into their difference's to tell their mother? Even now, one is more
placid and one more active(usually the case with twins I know, but there's
more to it than that Astrologically?) Please help

I was born August 3, 1965, near Chicago, IL, USA, at 5 minutes after 12

I enjoy your site! I am a 13 year old girl who likes to read about astrology
and have borrowed astrology books from the library. However, I have two
questions. I have been using the book Parkers' Astrology by Julia and Derek
Parker to calculate and draw my older sister Sarah's natal chart, born at
3.10 pm on November 24, 1982. (The book has an ephemeris and tables of
planets' positions and sidereal times). After calculating as best as I could
the proper ST for her using the book's instructions on how to do so, I found
her Ascendant to be listed as Libra (her Sun is in Sagittarius, by the way).
I also calculated and plotted the planets' positions. However, I checked out
her chart at this website as well, and although all of the planetary
positions I had plotted were actually correct, your chart looked like
mine...only upside down, and with Aries as the Ascendant and a completely
different ST!! What went wrong? Is it just my math?
And the second question: This book also says that the Rising Sign reflects
the true personality, and the Sun Sign, the image and behaviour of the
person. I have always believed the opposite having read it in more sources.
Do you agree with that as well?

Perhaps i'm just being a stilted American, but I wish there was a separate
interactive partner chart for relationships which are friendships or
professional relationships only. I am using it more and more for these types
of relationships and less for the romantic type. I find it awkward to read
about the sexual stuff when thinking about less involved relationships.
On the other hand, I must say that the interactive partner chart is one of
the most illuminating things I've come across on the web. It is truly
consciousness-raising, even with the daily use of Mr. Hands book over the

Sohn Michael, jetzt 4 1/2 Jahre alt.

glaubt. Aber wo es stimmt, das stimmt es.

Hello,
Great site very useful except for one thing, I need to confirm daylight
savings time/war time to be able to calculate four pillar/Chinese horoscopes.
It would be nice to have that ability within your site. Thanks

Hi,
My friend and I both love the look of the chart wheels the Astrodienst site
can generate. We are wondering what software program you use, whether it is
something commercially available (eg, Solar Fire, Winstar, Kepler, Halloran,
et al.), because we haven't seen anything like them. We are primarily
familiar with the look of the charts produced by the Winstar program from
Matrix, but might possibly be interested in purchasing a commercial program
that could generate chart wheels that look like those we get from
Astrodienst.
Can you help us at all? Sorry if this has already been answered I didn't
have time to read through the archives and I didn't really find an answer in
reading about Astrodienst on the website.
Thanks,
Kathy K.

Alois adds: I have to disappoint you - our chart generating software is not
available to end users. It runs on our Linux and Unix systems, and is database
driven, i.e. has no user interface. It is the kind of software used by machines,
not by people.
The good point however is this: You never need not buy this software, you never
need to install it, you can have it for free, as much as you like,
by visiting www.astro.com and using it there.
hello everyone! I want only to say how much I enjoy the site and find it very
useful. I love my subscription to Astrodienst! Also, I very much like the
small picture tour of your location and offices! You are all so very friendly
and pleasant! Thanks again!

hola buenos dias amigos !

Glenn R o s s
Oostende, Belgium --- Sunday, November 9, 2003 at 15:09 Universal Time
please see this article. We use only the black moon Lilith definition. The asteroid
named Lilith is not considered, as
it is not a traditional astrological factor. There are really too many
asteroids out there. One can play around with them, but should be rather
hesitant with using them in actual chart readings.
It is comparable to the Mercury/Hermes discussion. The planet Mercury
has a long tradition in astrology. The recently rediscovered asteroid Hermes
(#69230) shares its symbolic name, but that is about it. I don't think
it is relevant in people's charts.
I love the site and come in very often. However, I'm not at all impressed
with the small rectangular Art work pictures accompanying the daily
horoscopes. What are they supposed to be? they are pretty bad!

Fist of all I want to thank you for an excellent site, with first class
horoscopes, interpretations and articles.
However there is one thing that could be improved. The daily horoscope only
supports the listing of 3 long term influences. eg. i know that my sun is in
sextile with jupiter at the moment, and the aspect is not shown under
longterm influences. It was only shown as the aspect randomly selected by the
computer yestoday or the day before. I hope u will make it possible to see
all your longterm influences at once. And not like now where you have to
remember the day, where the interpretation of the aspect was selected for
you.

Alois adds:Thank you for the feedback.
In regard to your suggestion of improvement: I am afraid you misunderstand the concept of a 'daily horoscope'.
It is like a daily newspaper - it does not contain all possible information.
A library with a newspaper archive, or a combination of weekly magazine, monthly reviews etc. gives
the the whole picture of information, but a daily newspaper does not, is
not intended to.
Our daily horoscopes are meant to entertain, to give a thought of the day, and to link in some interesting background information. The goal has never been
to privide ALL.
dear alois,
thanks for letting us still read the thursday aspect horoscope
interpretations----it is very generous of you.
this weekend, i have friends over, and they are quite impressed as to the
accuracy of the astro-click traits, and are seemingly becoming open to
astrology.
incidentally, for those in the philadelphia, usa, region, there is as person
doing sociological research on astrology. although it is for people of
limited geographical origin, the url is www.astrologysurvey.org perhaps
it would be good for people in the astrological arena to add to scientific
research on astrology.

Dear Webmaster,
Thank you for a wonderful site.
Problem: How can I generate a chart with location in the middle of the ocean
(chart for Titanic disaster). I got the coordinates for the wreck, but what
next ? Is there a possibility to enter coordinates manually ?
Sorry if I have missed an obvious answer.

Hello, Team
Thanks again for a wonderful site. I am a little disconcerted however. I
recently changed my internet carrier but when I came to sign into my Astro
account, the same greeting was there with old e-mail address. I think I
changed my e-address so when I sign in it will be a newer one. I'm a little
surprised still that certain locations which are in many reputable atlases
are not included in your lists. Question: How difficult would it be to
create a program where we can enter coordinates of places ourselves. E,g.:
the little hamlet where some of my close relatives were born is not included
on maps anymore. However the National Topographical Institute still keeps
records of the names and coordinates of these ghost towns. So doing a chart
where we can enter the coordinates would really help, without giving a name
necessarily. In order to do the birth charts of some these relatives, I have
to use the closest town to where they were born. I wonder just how accurate
a chart based on not actual birthplace is in terms of the rising sign and
placement of Houses.
Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Alois adds: Please see the FAQ about changing your email
address. Our system needs to be told by you that you changed your email address.
It does not notice that by itself, just because you access www.astro.com
from a different provider ;-)
If you provide reliable coordinates for additional towns, we are happy
to add them to our database. User entry is not possibly because user's would
not know which timezone history to assign to a particular spot. This is
something only experts know.
We prefer to have reliable data in our system,
even when the price is that a few small hamlets are missing. As long is your
birth time precision is not better than 5 minutes, you can choose any town
in less than 50 miles distance for that chart, and it will not lack precision.
We only keep 250'000 towns in our database, but these are good ones with
complete timezone history.

Even when our Relationship Horoscope and other partner-related horoscopes
are written and worded for love relationships, they can still be applied for
other kinds of close human relationship, e.g. in families, among non-couples
living together or for work place human relationships.
The reader has to transpose the text in his/her mind, to translate the
love-related expressions to a more general relationship context. The principles
which are active between two particular persons remain however the same.
Hi! Alois, thanks so much for all your help in the near past, remember I was
enquiring about births in Germany? You were a great help. I have another
question regarding time of birth in Europe. I have managed to find a full
copy of birth registration from Ludwigsburg for my friend and it gives the
TOB just as 8 o'clock 35 minutes. No indication of am or pm. Can you tell me
if European countries used the 24 hour clock back in 1948? Thank you so much
for a great site. cheers Gill
Gill B r a d l e y
Yeppoon, Australia --- Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at 11:15 Universal Time
Alois adds: This is of course morning. 24-hour clock time has been used
in the German speaking countries for official purposes since early in the
20th century.
In daily life people continue to use 12-hour clock time,
but for afternoon and evening they will always append 'nachmittags' or 'abends', if it is not totally clear from context.
In a birth data recording
there is no context, so you can rely on '8 35' meaning morning.
Otherwise it would say 20:35 or 8:35 evening.
I've been studying astrology off and on for 25 years. Liz Greene and Robert
Hand have both had a huge impact on my studies over the years. I am so

Is there any software available for casting Persona Charts for any known

further.

USA --- Sunday, November 2, 2003 at 22:11 Universal Time
Alois adds: Most German astrology software does that, as the technique
of Persona Charts ("Personar" in German) is widespread here. But outside
of the German speaking countries the technique is unknown, and I know of no
software implementing it.
To do it by hand calculation, you have to be precise, but it can be done.
It works
the same way as doing a Solar return calculation by hand, with proper
interpolation to get the exact time of the crossing of the Sun over the
particular chart factor.
If your software can do transits of the Sun over any natal chart factor,
just look for the first transit conjunction in the year after birth.
This is the moment for your Persona chart for that factor. Create a natal
for that precise moment.
Hallo,
Rechnung bei Books on Demand herausgeben.

Grunde sehr zufrieden bin.
Letztes update: 23.6.2003.
gelegen.
Beispiel- 2 Personen mit in beiden Programmen korrekter identischer
Geburtseingabe:
_________________________________________
Bei Vision erscheint Mars Konjunktion Saturn (Jungfrau) - Opposition Sonne-
Merkur- Venus- Jupiter (Fische).
