I love your web site! I'm new to all this so I'm still floundering around. I
have a comment re astro twins. I looked mine up and didn't find John Fogerty
(Credence Clearwater Revival). His data is in Lois Rodden's lists. He was
born 28 May 1945 in Berkeley, CA. If I remeber correctly, it was about 7:30
PM, with Scorpio rising.

The February issue of Horoscope magazine on pg. 17 stated in an editors note
that one could get free information on the location of Eros 433 for a birth
chart. I have been unable to locate it. Could you please give me the
location for 3/24/47 and 8/25/72. I realized these will be approximate, or
tell me where I can locate it on your site. Thank you.

computerized horoscope services by mail and via the web. We do not see the

We think that the
area of medical astrology is to sensitive to be handled from such a distance.
It should be reserved to personal astrological consultation, and even there
an astrologer needs to be very careful. In many countries
it is against the law to provide medical advice without the proper
medical qualifications. This is why Astrodienst has chosen to stay away
from the field of medical astrology.
Please put the two charts back on my site. One the early century chart for
Afghanistan and the other when Hamid Karzai took office. Why do you keep
deleting these? I have Taurus on the 12th and am very fixed about what I keep

This is 04:09 AM New York time. Before that time, the Sun was still in Aquarius. The exact date and time of sign change varies from year

Dear people at Astro! Please help: I am using your free horoscope to make one
for a friend in Ukraine. Since I could not locate the small town of his

reading I got is a tough one, with SAturn in the 8th House. I am affraid to
forward this tough horoscope to the young man since I had to use a different
birth town. His data: born January 1,1980 in Tyachiv (Tjacsevo, Tyacsiv,
Tecso, Tjacevo???), Ukraine, at 10 am. I used Irsava instead - the closest
town on your map. Could you verify this so I may translate the English text

Dear Alois, I want to tell few things about myself. ASTROLOGY: I was born at
April 27th,1946 in Karlovac,Croatia at 4:50 p.m. A propos my natal chart, I
think, there are many things, they shoud happen, but they did not. 1.:I have
5th,6th,7th and 12th house bad aspected. the lords of those houses are in bad
aspects with planets inside their houses. The worst aspects are about my
health: lord of my 6th and 12th h. changed the places and are in opposition
with each other. Neptun in 12th h.= allways wrong diagnosis. Mars is in
square with Sun, Sun in quinkucks with Neptun (very bad aspect for my
health). I am sick from my 16th year: double sinusitis (max. and ethm.),
atypical Neuralgia Trigeminus, pains come from the shoulder, close to the
neck, long time Hypotireosis.Only one doctor, neurologist in abroad (where I
lived from 1969 till 1976) helped me, with injection between shoulder and
neck, in the year 1971. It was good for about five years. But, I still dont
know, where is cause for my pains. 2.: My 5th h.= I should have at least one
child, but I do not have anyone. 3.: I know people with similar aspects, and
they were married. 4.: Lord of my 7th h.Mars (10th h.)is in sextile with
Neptun (12th h.): I had two boy friends from oversea. 5.: Lord of my 1st
h.(Venus) is in 8th h. what means thinking about suicide.I have tried twice,
but was found and rescued, because my Venus has only good aspects. For my bad
life is Jupiter in square with Saturn guilty too. 6.: My 10th h.Lord is Moon
in trine with Saturn in them h., what is good sign for job. I had many breaks
in my life because of mooving to different places, looking for ideal climat.
So I have lost about five years.7.:I have never believed in transits till
Dec.2000, but I do beieve now. Neptun (my health lord) was first in
opposition with natal Mars, then in square with Sun, and now for long time in
opposition with Pluto. In natal chart they are all in aspects with each
other. And that is and it was my worst time. I have some very good aspects,
but they dont help me much. Venus in 8th h. good aspected means some
inheritance. Till now there is nothing. NUMERLOGY: About numerology i didnt
have any oppinion til the year 2001, when I was in personal 7th year. That is
worst years from all nine.In Mai I lost my job,was very ill all year, no
medicaments helped me. I was twice in spa, visited many doctors (classic,
alternative, tradicional medicine), lost almost all my money. On the end was
nothing. I was thinking to make suicide, but did not because of my sisters.
This year,8th is little bit better, but I still do not have job, alltough I
speak and write fluently german, english and french and was busy in tourism
over 23 years.
You can give some comment, but I would rather know some of your many readers,
if somebody has the same birthday, similar horoscop and what happened to
them? Thank you very much for your patience!

Personally, I think your view of astrology is somewhat fatalistic and mechanistic. Maybe you should try to step out of the shadows it has cast, and ignore
it for a while.
Wonderful interpretations all through your site! I love your site and visit
it frequently.
Recently my brother was hospitalized and diagnosed as bipolar. I have fought
depression (with less mania) all my life. My daughter now shows symptoms of
bipolar disorder. Several other relatives have exhibited symptoms as well.
Several of my friends struggle with depression and a few have been diagnosed
bipolar. The information available on depression and bipolar disorder as
seen through astrology is difficult to interpret and not useful for
application to the charts I have for friends and family. I understand there
is a relationship between Saturn and Mercury for depression and Uranus for
the mania, but what is the relationship in the natal chart? Does it involve
Aquarius (with Uranus as ruler and Saturn as traditional ruler)? Can it be
seen through harmonics? If so, what harmonic? Have any of you done research
for an astrological marker to help identify depression or bipolar? What
about transits/progressions as a method for determining when the cycles might
shift in or out of depression/mania?
Thanks in advance for any assistance or leads you can provide.

Alois adds: I am sorry, but we do not give personal advice in the guestbook
area. We would be overwhelmed with requests, if we started. I also do not
feel competent regarding the questions you are raising.
I recommend to remain rather skeptical towards any claims by astrologers about
rigid relationships between particular planetary constellations/movements and
the mental health problems you mention. Some astrologers make unqualified
claims without the necessary careful study of each individual case.
I do not think that medical advice by email, without an extensive interaction
with the patient(s), would be responsible professional work.
[added later] I asked a friend who is working as a trained psychoanalyst
and astrologer, and this is what she commented:
I am pretty appalled by the freedom with
which the diagnosis "bipolar" seems to be handed out in the US at the
moment; it is obviously the fashionable diagnosis, so everyone with any
emotional problems is receiving it, which makes the whole diagnosis
meaningless. This is probably connected with some particular medication
which is popular at the moment, and cynical though it sounds, fashions in
psychiatric diagnosis tend to follow fashions in new medications. I have in
fact kept an astrological eye on what used to be called manic depression
(and is now called bipolar), and have found that it has little to do with
Uranus.

could answer to me through the feedback page I am going to ask it anyway as I
would like to hear the opinions of other people reading the feedback files as
well. I am a Leo with the sun on the 3rd degree of Leo with Cancer rising on
the 29th degree of Cancer. So the first house of my chart begins at the end
of Cancer but it is situated mostly in Leo. How should I interpret that? Is
my ascendant trully Cancer or Leo? And my first house is situated on Cancer
or Leo? Please anyone with thoughts on that contact me.

liebes astro team!

Please know how grateful I am for your service. I wrote a quick question
before I understood the feedback--and I wrote incorrectly. When I got back
into the site today it was with great trepidation I read the messages,
realizing I put in the wrong info and maybe should not have asked the
question. And there was my question and a direct honest answer! So I will try
to ask again with the right info.
Currently I have a saturn retrograde trine
the sun transit. According to your site I will experience
difficulty/challenges in about 4 years. I am currently in grad school for a
MA in counseling. It is amazing how accurate the daily and long term readings
have been for me during the past 6 months. In another year I will graduate
and then it will take two years to work for liscensure. Finally I will take
an exam and this will be close to 4 years in the future. I hope this is the
only obstacle I will face. I began studying astrology aboaut 6 years ago and
it is my joy. I would rather have a chart than a Rorschach to help me gain
insight into another! Fortunately I've met some really excellent astrologers
and hope to study again in the future when grad school is over. This site is
invaluable to me now especially when I have no money and need free info!
Please comment on the saturne retrograde trine sun transit and the four years
in the future when I will encounter adversity. Respectfully, Skye

Harrisonburg, USA --- Friday, December 27, 2002 at 20:17 Universal Time (UT/GMT)
Alois adds: No need to trepidate - I do not always grumble or bite, and certainly not polite young ladies like yourself.
Please understand that we do not give personal consultations
in the feedback area. I make only a slight exception in your case, as the
mention of the '4 years' period in the text was actually misleading - it only
applied to the trine which happes 10 years after the Saturn-Sun conjunction,
i.e. 4 years before the opposition, but not to the other trine 9-10 before
the Saturn-Sun conjunction. I have reworded the reading slightly to
fix that.
You have no reason to worry. A Saturn Sun contact can very much be an experience
of strength, not of difficulty, if you are prepared. I think you are already.
Here is Robert Hand's text again:
Further training
At this time the circumstances of your life and your own inner energies
are working quite well together. But this influence will not seem
especially lucky; rather, your life as a whole will run smoothly, and
whatever you do will come out well. Without any special sense of
effort, you are actually able to make significant progress and get a
great deal done. Take advantage of this and accomplish as much as
possible. If an opportunity arises for further training to expand the
range of your experience, take it, because you will build up a bulwark
against possible adversity later on. The more you accomplish at this
time, the easier it will be to live up to demands that will be made upon
you a few years from now.
This is a time of preparation for the climaxes that come at the
opposition and conjunction transits.
Therefore you should use this period to make your
world strong and secure against difficulties. This is also a good time
for building up your physical strength rather than wasting it. If you
waste your energy now, it won't mean immediate trouble, but in a few
years, when you need strength and energy, you may not have it.
This is a good time to win recognition from others for your
achievements. Employers or others with whom you work will be impressed
with your diligence. And you should strive to impress them, because in
a few years your goals will be challenged, but if you have convinced
others that you are worthwhile, you will overcome those obstacles more
easily.

Alois adds: For Julian Calendar dates, please add the letters 'jul' behind
the year. For more information, please click on the [i] button besides
the date entry field.
It says:

I have one question. The planets are usually ruled by different signs: the
moon by cancer, saturn by capricorn... has ever been a moment in which each
planet was in the right sign? when was it? or when will it be?
Gemma

Alois adds: I have analyzed the years -5000 to +5000 for you.
If you include the outer planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, the answer is
no.
The only years when Pluto was in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces were
-4371
-4372
-4373
-4374
-4858
-4859
-4860
-4861
-4862
-4863
-4864
4959
You also want Uranus in Aquarius, and this reduces the list to
-4863
-4864
However, Saturn was not in Capricorn in these two years. No match.
If you just use the traditional planets up to Saturn, things look different.
I have not done the actual search, but I assume there will be such dates every few centuries. You also have double signs, like Capricorn and Aquarius for Saturn, Sagittarius and
Pisces for Jupiter, Aries and Scorpio for Mars, which increases the chances
of a match. Once you have matched Jupiter and Saturn, every second
year will give you a matching Mars for a month or two, and then it might not be very hard to match the
other planets too. Just check your ephemeris.
A match of Jupiter and Saturn happens for example in these years:
1402
1405
1429
1461
1462
1488
1520
1521

Hi There,
I would like to ask you about one detail in your system. I am a member and I
have some people's charts. But in your website if I change the referance
place of one chart, the system appearently excepts or changes the reference
place for all the charts in My Astro. For example I choose San Juan as a
reference place for one of the charts I can see when I check other charts all
have San Juan as the reference place. Is there any option that I can choose a
different reference place for every chart? Thank you for your time. Sahin

My birth certificate says I was born at 4:27 AM CST in Chicago on Sept. 7

Do you know anything about this? The one-hour difference changes my rising

Alois adds: let's exercise some Christmas generosity.
I wanted to contribute some of my new learnings
in Astrology that are from a deep spiritual
journey. I am a 3rd house aquarian/venus/chiron
conj. opposing uranus in the 9th in leo.
Around the new moon of Gemini last may
(I explore lunar alchemy) I was projected into
alternatate consciousness in vision with Chiron
himself. Since Transiting Neptune is on my natal
Chiron/Venus its brings very subtle awarenesses
to my healing journey. Uranus right now my
abilities to astral travel and my regular work
with Shamanic Dreamtime sessions or entering
others dreamstates in my work with others has
allowed me to venture into the Astral Universrse.
(I have natal neptune/Jupiter/north node in
scorpio in the 12yh)
Chirons messgages to me was that his archetypal
teachings have more to do with 'where you have
wounded others, rather than the opposite and
his presence is a safety net, because whenever
one tries to reverse soul growth, where one has
wounded another, actually this lifetime wounds you.
This is contrary to most teachings about Chiron
and i felt blessed to be able to share this with
other astrologers and my clients.
Celebrating the Time of Peace or the Halcion
this Winter Solstice brings a new light to the
light bearer aquarians (the ancient lucifer)
to be able to process and understand that the
universe no longer accepts projecting inner
demons onto others anymore. The vibration cannot
sustain it anymore. So recognize the Devil, and
add your last name to this relationship, and then
greater awarenesses and also Peace within will
spread forth onto our planet in easier trasnitions
rather than difficult ones. In other words Honor
both the Light God and the Dark Goddess.
Blessings and Prosperity to all of you on this list....

I notice you can adjust the orb size of the aspects from 0-150%. I assume
100% is the default amount. I've tried a few charts at 75, 100, and 150% but
still can't pin down what the default size is. Do you use a different orb for
the Sun Moon vs other planets? Do you decrease the Sun's orb between night
day placements? (Some astrologers say the Sun has less influence when close
to the IC.) I'll appreciate your help.

Alois adds: For the orbs we use in our standard chart styles, please see the
page http://www.astro.com/info/in_aspect_e.htm and scroll to the bottom.
Orbs are a matter of personal taste, like the dress you wear. Our standard
web styles use Liz Greene's customary orbs. Other chart styles have rather
different settings, but these are currently not documented on the website
(you can try the definition files in directory /h/mthsrc but do not expect to understand anything or to get an explanation).
A user interface to allow full fredom in choice of orbs
on this website would be far to complex. If you need that, you are better
off with astrology software for your PC, like Kepler or Solar Fire.
Please be aware that a large orb does not say anything about the importance
you place on an aspect. Wider orbs will have the effect that you see more
aspects in a chart, so you don't overlook them. Whether you then consider
aspects with a wide orb as relevant or not, is a decision you have to make
when you interpret the chart - if you want to disregard wide orb aspects
of a night Sun, the decision is up to you. You might still want to see those
aspects, so that you can consciously decide, and learn.

I've read with interest the recent comments of several visitors to this site,
with regard to the quality of the interpretations by various writers in the
free reports offered here. Specifically, some people have felt that
interpretations by Robert Pelletier and Robert Hand were too negative. Out
of curiosity, I ran the free reports that Astrodienst offers by Pelletier and
Hand for personality and character analysis, for myself and several other
people I know well.
Now, I admit that I don't know Robert Pelletier from Adam, while I do know
Robert Hand, having consulted him several times in the last few years, when I
felt that I could use the opinion of an objective outsider who knew more
astrology than I do. Robert Pelletier can certainly be blunt, but I don't
know that that is necessarily destructive. I found that he accurately
identified some character weaknesses, or flaws, in myself and the other
people I looked at, which it was perhaps uncomfortable to admit to oneself.
Moreover, I do agree with Alois that it should be kept in mind that short
excerpts taken out of context from a longer text can give a false impression
of the whole.
As for Robert Hand, I have to say that I have nothing but unmitigated
admiration for his work. I have found out the hard way that, when he gives
an interpretation of a transit that might seem negative in tone, you should
just accept it and take it very seriously, because he is invariably right.
Case in point, in my own chart I have for some time now had to deal with the
transit of Neptune squaring my natal Mars. Rob's interpretation, which was
excerpted on this site under Important Long-Term Influences, was certainly
extremely negative. Unfortunately for me, it was also dead right. He could
not have been more accurate.
Interestingly, Liz Greene's interpretation of the same transit, as written in
my Horoscope 2000 report, was much more positive. In fact, had I just read
the two interpretations without knowing what transit was being discussed, I
would not have been able to tell that she and Rob were talking about the same
transit. Am I to assume from this that Liz Greene is not as accurate in her
interpretations as Robert Hand? I don't think so, for a couple of reasons.
Number one, I know from past experience ordering Liz Greene's reports that
she is so accurate, I do sometimes wonder if she is simply psychic, and not
just using astrology to get her results. Number two, I know from reading her
books that she is very concerned to phrase her interpretation of negative
transits in a way that will not unduly upset or scare her clients. This is
surely admirable. On the other hand, it can perhaps sometimes cause a client
to be unprepared for the nasty reality that is about to be experienced.
So anyway, I just felt that I should maybe speak up for Hand and Pelletier,
because having recently lived through some very negative transits, I know
that it can help to validate your own experience when someone else tells you
that yes, this is a bad time for you, but it will definitely end by such and
such a time. I tell myself this now, when I read the Chiron transits
presently gracing my Astrodienst readings. You want to feel depressed, try
reading the interpretations of Chiron conjunct Chiron, or Chiron opposition
Ascendant, or Chiron opposition Uranus, all of which I have at present. Ouch!

with the recent gigantic work our online editors had to put into the new

task.
Guten Tag,
stehen in identische Zeichen, gleiche Aspekte usw.)?

anbieten, einmal gründlich an, und wählen Sie, was Ihnen vom Stil her am
ehesten zusagt.

Alois adds: You can create an ephemeris yourself in the Swiss Ephemeris

can actually be rather confusing. Only after you have really understood the
whole chart just with the regular planets, you can start playing with asteroids.
Don't be seduced by Eros' name, it is just a minor asteroid. Look at Venus
in your chart to understand 'Eros' as a theme.

Monika Schmidt [ Tolle_Trolle.xyz*xyz.web.de --- .xyz*xyz. -> * ]
, Deutschland --- Saturday, December 21, 2002 at 23:03 Universal Time (UT/GMT)
So viel Spielraum

Alois adds: You find the 'lover' in all of the descriptions, even when there
is no extra headline for her/him. The whole thing is called 'Astrology for

on the negativity/honesty issue: I find Liz Greene to be absolutely honest to
the best of her perceptions (which are uncommonly deep) and whatever
seemingly dark truths she unveils are invariably helpful in the most useful
way, no matter how supposedly negative the analysis appears. Robert
Pelletier, on the other hand, is simply destructive, especially to
astrological newcomers and I'm surprised this kind of writing appears on a
quality website such as this. In the case of Robert Hand: he lacks depth.
Or, should I say, his perceptions are shallow. So, I give Liz 10 out of 10,
Robert Hand 5 out of 10, and Pelletier a big fat zero.
ian sadler
vancouver, canada --- Saturday, December 21, 2002 at 04:51 Universal Time (UT/GMT)
Alois adds: I agree that there are significant differences in quality of
writing between the various authors we are working with - as there are, for
example, between teachers working at a particular school or university.
In life, you have to work with what you have got.
However, I do not agree with your judgement of Robert Hand's writing.
The longer we work with his text, particularily on Transits, the
more respect I have got for his work. Many of his short transit descriptions
are brilliant, and they are certainly not shallow. The planetary events are
often shallow, i.e. most of the transits showing up in the daily horoscope
arise from transiting Moon, Sun, Mercury and Venus, and these do often
have no deep meaning, they are just ephemeral and hopefully entertaining.
Very little of the text in the free horoscope section is from Liz Greene.
Only 'Astrology for Lovers', and while this is "just" sun-sign astrology, it
is indeed deep, funny and very intelligent. We would love to have more of
her in the free area, but we do not want to rip her work apart to present
it in short 'point and click' bytes. The longer form of the printed reports
with 20 to 40 pages is much more appropriate for her style, and this kind
of quality has its price - we can't offer it for free. I do even think it
would not be appreciated enough if it was for free.
A lot of the negativity issue arises from the fact that we present text
in rather short quantities on the website, one screen-ful or popup-window-ful
at a time. The perception of the reader is different than when he/she would
be reading a lengthy printed report or a textbook. The impact of single
sentences is much stronger in the web application. It is not necessarily
the fault of the authors, who wrote their material originally for lengthy
printed reports.
We are learning, and we are working on continuous improvements. Sometimes
the bashing we receive is helpful. It is not that the customer is always
right - I do certainly not subscribe to that silly idea, as is obvious
from my responses. In many cases the customer is outright stupid.
But one can always learn something from the feedback.

special as it approaches the Earth rather closely - for example in 2012

How common is it for two people to have identical signs of the zodiac in all

this is why you do not find the towns you are looking for? [I draw conclusions

The number of hits will be larger and you have to scan a longer list, but
with uncertain spelling this might be wise - type less, find more. Also, the
transcription of local Indian names to English in our atlas does not

I cannot believe the continual negativity of my Robert Hand forecast. But the
most recent, that at the age of 61 I may be maundering about being old -!!!
What is he trying to do? How many world leaders are older than this? How
many film, opera, and other stars are glorying in this time of life? Artists
and writers come into their own at this age. This is the third stage, free
from travails, financial concerns, where we can really come into our own and
glory in life.
I cannot believe this man and his negativity. It was always the hierarchical
view and pracice that age gave the powerful more authority and power. Poor
people were taught that they were old and useless.
Does Robert Hand subscibe to this view?

Alois adds: It is true that you have several transits which involve Saturn at this time or in the near future, and they are not simply nice and pleasant. It is very important to read the interpretations carefully and completely, and not to 'freak out' at a single sentence.
In any case you are misrepresenting Robert Hand's writing in your comment.
You have been reading the text about Uranus Square Uranus, which is quoted in full below. If you read it completely, you will notice that the last sentence
says precisely what you have been demanding.
I am quite surprised that you make statements about
how you are going to feel next year in February. The transit is not here yet!
You might be confronted at that time with feelings which seem so remote now.
On a pivot
25 February 2003 until 4 April 2003: This influence signifies the changes that
take place as you approach old age. There is often a crisis associated with this
period, when you suddenly realize that you are getting old. Roughly
twenty-one years ago you confronted a crisis of reorientation. At that time you
should have turned your attention toward your inner values, those that were
important to you alone. If you handled that time properly, this period will not be
especially upsetting. Your life as an individual will have enough richness that
you will know how to handle the years ahead.
A common problem for people approaching retirement is that they have no idea
what to do with their coming leisure time. All they know is their work, and when
that ends, their life effectively ends. This is the crisis presented by this
influence. You must realize that the richness of your life does not come only
from your achievements in the outer world of business and society, but also
from what you know and understand about life.

I am wondering what everyone thinks about a couple things. first, what
transits usually indicate that you might have a chance to travel? im asking
because im hoping for one now LOL. i was just wondering if anyone else
noticed that they often got to take trips when jupiter passed a certain point
in their chart, etc. also, i am interested in anyone's opinion on my natal
chart. i have had several interpretations and they all seem quite good. i
have like every book ever written about astrology and have analyzed my chart
extensively. i have found everything to be very accurate. its amazing how
well astrology can describe someone's life if you look at the whole chart,
and especially the rulers of each house. for example, i know someone with
neptune rising who is the worst compulsive liar i have ever met - im not
saying that all neptune rising people are dishonest, it depends on a lot of
chart factors, but that one really fits her. anyway, my question is about me.
i'd appreciate the thoughts of anyone who reads this page who wants to give
an answer. ok, so I have my chart ruler, venus, in capricorn in the tenth
house of career. i also have mercury, ruler of the second house, in aquarius
in the tenth house. i think this means that im going to have a career as a
famous singer. im sure there are other ways to interpret this placement but
that's the one I like best, LOL. seriously, it sounds to me like a very good
placement for what i want to do in life. anyway id appreciate anyone's
thoughts. thanks!

Buuut, I find that the interpretations have a sort of negative tone. I don't
want it to all of a sudden become flowery, but I'm curious as to your
thoughts on this.
For instance, an interpretation is written by an author who is residing in a
particular geographical location. That is influencing the way they present
their interpretaions, correct?
It's a real question for me. My Neptune/IC line runs really near Zurich.
The interpretation isn't so positive. Does that mean I shouldn't go there to
meet you guys? Or does that mean that Astrodienst doesnt want me to come

Of course, there are other more positive aspects to Zurich, but I hope you

About a supposed negative tone of some horoscope readings: We do not sugarcoat
everything. In most cases of comments like yours, when I looked at the text
myself - here Neptune/MC in Astroclick Travel - I found that the commentator

at all that negative, even when it indeed starts off that way.

such a time period. Saturn trine Sun does mention it.
It has not directly to do with your Saturn return, which will happen in about 2 - 3 years.
I am posting again to acknowlege this wonderful site, and add the suggestion
to providing to the chart wheel generation feature, what I have found to be
called an, Astro Graph, or something along the lines of, Astro Cartography.
Even though I have not read much about it at all, I have been tinkering with
it and I have found some very consistant patterns, which I am applying
succesfuly... well? I have not learned to set such a map up myself, (yet),
and I am currently limited to 5 degree increments of location which do not
include much accuracy.
I'll share the phenomenea. I have a home in a small wilderness area. The
location is whithin miles, if not meters, of a, line, that I have identified
as a, Venus, line. I think this is rather fateful, though, I recall no
awareness of this, line, when I got the place. And I'll add that it was
bought by accident, so to speak, as I had it mind that I was getting a
different place nearby. In other words I bought the wrong lot.
My Venus is nataly 4 degree Libra in my 12th house in a trine to my Aquarian
Saturn in my Capricorn ruled 4th. It is very private, secluded, lush with
many kinds of life. It has a small stream with cascades, ponds with fish,
small caves and steep forested rocky terraces.
As pleased as I am with it, I am seeking to better understand how this place
attracted me.
I can add that I am a very curious person as to just how much astrology goes
beyond the psychological. I understand that I could aquire and live out
conditions without much awareness at all, to the point of allowing such a
manifestation, as a destructive flood to this land, as my natal Neptune
squares my 4th house ruler. What upsets me in this, is how this last week,
Venus and Mars together, meanly aspected Neptune from my Natal Neptune onto
my Natal Saturn, (Yes, my wonderful midlife Neptune square is in it's final
passage), and rain poured from the sky, over much of the lands here in
California, causing a great amount of destruction to rock works I had
previously labored on. The damage is not really a suprise since I could have
taken better measures to prevent it. It is as I said, upsetting, that it has
not rained here like that, in December, for the last 5 years, and it is this
timing in relation to my natal postions that frustrates my ability to accept
that such things have occured simply out of my own psyche. That is unless I
control the weather, which I also deny.
Thankfuly, my elder neigbors were very understanding of this natural
occurance and helped out in reopening the damaged road and bridge.
I am left a bit bitter in regards to viewing astrology in just a mental way.
I just have too many examples of weather and earthquake occurance that
coincide with traditional astrological interpretations, in this place of the
world. It seems the only logical means to accept that view is to accept that
the collective psyche of the population here is responsible for all those
occurances. That is still a tough one for me, (kinda).
---
I just examined the Astro-Travel feature.
Nice. Can I get Line pairs with that?
grin That is what I am after today.
---
On another note,
regarding the accuracy of the horoscope wheels produced at this site, I do
come here from time to time, to verify charts I do for people in other places
of the world. But I thought to mention that there is a factor that no amount
of programming will solve, and that is simply that when a country decides to
implement time changes, there is a period of resistance or a lack of
compliance, from the people that live there, such as Canada during the
enactment of Day Light Savings for instance.
My challenge was with Singapore for January of 1952. I do trust the accuracy
here, but, after being with my parnter for over 10 years, tossing the issure
of 30 minutes back and forth for the past year, in great depth, I have come
to the conclusion that even though the site here is correct, the Doctors and
Nurses and Clerks simply did not honor the recent changes in time zones. I
find the attitudes of both the Canadians and the Peoples of Singapore rather
amusing.
Just thought I'd mention that.
Merry Christmas!

Alois adds: You might make a thinking error. Doctors and nurses don't have to
honor time zones, when they record a birth time. They only have to look at
their wrist watch or wall clock and record the wrist-watch time. This is what
they do, and this is what our data entry page requires to get entered.
It is our software which has to take timezones into account, and we do that
VERY WELL, much better than you will ever be able to. You need not think about
that issue for one second when you use astro.com - you will only introduce
errors, if you use anything other than recorded wrist-watch time.

Alois adds: I wonder who is judgemental here. Your's is a typical foul quote procedure - picking out the last sentence of a beautiful article about one of the most important
once-a-lifetime transits. The last sentence should not be read by anyone who
has not read the full story. Your quote is misleading.
Here is the full text (by Robert Hand):
This influence at the age of forty or forty-one marks a period of major
transition in your life. This is the crisis of middle age when you have
to come to terms with a number of realizations that may not all be
pleasant. For example, even though you are not very old, you are no
longer young. Have you accomplished or begun to accomplish what you
wanted when you were younger? If you have, was it an appropriate
accomplishment for you? Are you happy with your close relationships,
your marriage, your work?
Many people encountering this influence discover that the answer to
several of these questions is no. If this is your situation, you may
become seized with a feeling of urgency that you have only a short time
to correct the problem. Consequently you may begin to act rather
disruptively and quickly. You may leave a marriage or an old job and
take up a lifestyle quite different from your earlier one. Your friends
are likely to be rather shocked at the change. You may spend more time
with younger people, for their youth is a symbol of the opportunities
you feel you have almost wasted. This seems to be your last chance to
take advantage of those opportunities.
It is also quite possible that you make none of these drastic changes.
If you have taken advantage of opportunities right along and have not
allowed your life to become prematurely old and rigid, this time will
not be so upsetting or disturbing. You will experience the real meaning
of this influence a climax of the direction your life has taken since
childhood and a shifting of direction toward the issues you must
confront in old age.
If you have been successful in your dealings with the outside world, you
will continue to be, but now it will have to mean something in terms of
your own life and perception. You will not be able to live for some
external purpose, the purpose must come from within. If you don't
reorient yourself, your life will become hollow and meaningless,
regardless of what you accomplish from here on.

I also fail to understand what you mean by 'little cost to the provider'. In
fact our free service is provided at very high cost to Astrodienst, as the
ever growing number of users requires high bandwidth, a 'farm' of fast servers

learned that the node describes our relationships with other people. (for

answer to ann -amsterdam
it is possible quite easily to calculate repeted positions for conjunctions
and other aspects if you know how long is the the revolution of the planets
involved(how many years it takes them to circle the earth)...example:jupiter
conjunct mars - jupiter takes 12 years, mars 2years 12by2=24 years.. or
anotherexample: jupiter -saturn jupiter 12 years by saturn 29 years=348 years
...these results are not exact but it will give you an approximate position
which you can then refine easier..

Alois adds: Thanks Dragan. It is possible that Ann meant not just a pair
of planets, but that her question was, whether the complete configuration
of her chart has ever happened before. The answer is dependent on what
you mean by "the same configuration". If you want to be precise, i.e. by
one degree, then the period will be much longer than the existence
of the Solar system, i.e. 'never'. If you just want all planets in the
same sign again, the repetition rate is about once per million of years.

Alois adds: I would not say that any planet 'influences' a person's personality.
I would rather say that the configuration of planets at birth REFLECTS
a person's personality. When you look into a mirror, the mirror does
not "influence" you, but it allows you to look at yourself. You might then
act upon yourself and "influence" yourself, depending on what you see or
don't see or want to see.
For information about Chiron, please see the area 'Understanding
Astrology' -> Advanced articles on our homepage. For the Moon's Nodes, we don't
have much information at this time. If you look at them as the meeting
point between the Solar and the Lunar plane of existence, you get a first
hold of their meaning. They are not planets, they are places of (potential) encounter of planets and of planetary 'forces'.

I have a question I have been wondering about for a long time. I have a book

contains tables that help a person find things out about their charts. I was
born on August 3, 1965 at 12:05 p.m. An afternoon baby. According to the
chart provided, my Ascendant is Scorpio. But the chart done by your website

but I forgot which. I also have 2 retrogrades in my chart. Is there a

Please write to the publisher and ask your questions to them. The Ascendant does depend on WHERE you are born as well. I hope
they have a different Ascendant table for each town.
Maybe the title of the book was meant as: "The only astrology book you will
ever need for lighting your fireplace with." If you use one sheet each time it will last you long.

Hi AstroDiesnt folk,
For some time I have wondered whether you use the importance of planets in a
person's natal chart to weight which transit will be selected as the choice
of the day for the personal daily horoscope?
What made me wonder about this was that I have Sun in Cancer (but no other
planets there), and it's pretty rare for a lunar transit to be selected by
the computer as today's transit in my daily horoscopes.
However, I have a Gemini friend who has Moon in Cancer - i.e. the Moon is in
its own sign and perhaps (to my novice thinking) is especially important in
his chart? It appears to me that lunar transits are coming up all the time
as the daily selection for him, even when he has non-lunar transits (e.g. Sun
or Mercury) occurring.
Is there anything in this, and are you cleverly tipping the scales according
to each person's needs, or is it just my imagination?
Let me add that I very much like your new current planetary positions feature
on the homepage!
Cheers,
Kristie

--- Monday, December 9, 2002 at 10:22 Universal Time (UT/GMT)
Alois adds: Hi Kristie, thanks for your careful observation and interesting
question.
We are cleverly tipping the scales in the personal daily horoscope, to weigh
and select what is most likely relevant. But you have to keep in mind that
we cannot simple look each day for 'the most relevant' transit. It would have
the result that for many days in a row the same transit reading would appear, which
most people would find boring and silly. You need to be aware of the fact
that for each daily horoscope requested on our website, we always compute
transits for the whole year for this chart, find the optimal distribution
for 365 day-slots and then display the particular day-slot of the requested day.
Our servers are VERY fast in doing this complex analysis, because
every second they have to answer several requests for personal daily horoscopes.
Lunar transits, i.e. transits by the moving Moon, have the lowest priority
in the selection. The Moon makes its circle through your birth chart in 27
days and repeats all transits with this frequency - while squares, sextiles
and trines happen twice within each circle. This makes Moon transits the most
frequent and the least
interesting events, and they are only used in the daily horoscope if
nothing better can be found for a given day.
How often we have to fall back
to a Moon transit for a given chart depends on the overall distribution of the
other planets in the chart. They may be "nicely" distrubuted in such a way,
that their transits fill most of the 365 day-slots we have in a given year
for the daily horoscope. Then you will find few Moon transits.
If the other planets are distrubuted in a way that they often compete for
space in the same day slots, while there remain many day-slots to which none
of the more important planetary transits can be attributed, then the program
has to fall back to Moon transits more often. The placement of the natal
Moon, or the weight on Cancer in the natal chart has little influence on the
choice of Moon transits. In the average, about 60 out of 365 day slots are
filled with Moon transits.
If for a given day there are several transits competing for the top place
in the day slot, the weight evaluation is rather complex. The natal planet
is evaluated according to its role in the chart, the nature of the aspect
is considered, and slower transiting planets have much more weight than faster ones.
But also another factor is taken into account: slower transits have a longer
duration, and it does not really matter whether you find their reading a few days
earlier or later in the daily horoscope - they have a long term effect
anyway. Therefore, their reading is often shifted to a day when there is
nothing else of relevance on that day. Faster transits with a short period
of relevance cannot be shifted to another day, so they either get assigned
to the current day slot or to none at all. This mechanism often lets a faster
transit win for a particulr day-slot, because the reading of the slower transit is presented on another day
within its period of relevance.
I hope I could explain this clearly enough; if not, please feel free to
ask again.
Hi,
I'm curious to know, why some people have more major points than others, and
some seem to be more cursed or blessed than others---to what are ones natal
establishments linked to? Past lives and karma? Previous decisions in another
dimension? Luck? Thank you and keep up the good work

In my post to you last Friday, I failed to express myself well. I certainly
agree with your answer that the Natal chart would always be the basis for the
progression of planets within the signs. My question was based on the
progression of the angles for a person who has moved significantly north or
south from the birthplace. I was instructed to use the progressed Sidereal
Time from the progression of the Natal Chart but to use the current latitude
to determine the location of the cusps and particularly the Ascendant. A
review of the Table of Houses indicates the differences. For example, at
latitude 34N, Sidereal Time of 0:00:00 has a MC of 0Ari, Asc=15Can01 35N is
MC=0Ari, Asc=15Can34
36N is MC=0Ari, Asc=16Can07 At 43N, 44N, 45N MC remains at 0Ari but Asc is
20Can21, 21Can21, 21Can42. Having been raised in Los Angeles, CA(34N)and
working 5 years in Anchorage, AK (61N), I don't need to consult a Table of
Houses to realize that in Winter the time the sun rises and sets is much
different.
One astrologer that uses the method of calculating the progressed angles
using the latitude of the residence was Max Heindel. In his book Message of
the Stars, he explains this on pages 483 and 484.
My question directed to you should have been Do you progress the houses based
on the subject's current residence?

to do such a thing as you suggest.
But astrology has no fixed body of doctrine and no pope.
It allows for personal choices of technique and interpretation according to taste.
If your teacher wants it different, let him/her compute it differently.
He can even make his pupils wear funny hats, and put the asteroid Dudu into every chart - anything goes,

Please be so tolerant to accept 'no' as an answer from me, and please don't ask

I have a BIG question.
I was born in april 20 at 0h:15min. If the sun is in Aries from March 21 to
April 20. Then I should be Aries. However, in the AStrodienst chart I am
Taurus. How can this be possible? Any answer to this?
Roberto
--- Saturday, December 7, 2002 at 07:41 Universal Time (UT/GMT)
Alois adds: The Sun does not change signs at midnight on fixed days in YOUR
timezone. It changes signs at totally uneven times, and the exact date and time
varies from sign to sign and year to year.
The 'sun sign lists' published in newspaper horoscopes are just approximate guidelines -
you cannot rely on them if you are born on a border day around a sign change.
One needs to compute the Sun's position for the particular date, time and location
when you were born. This is what we do.
If you follow a good newspaper, you will often find a note around March 20/21
that the spring is about to begin at a certain date and time, e.g. March 20 2002,
at 7:16 pm Universal Time. This is when the Sun entered Aries this year. Next
year it will be March 21, 2003, at 01:00 am Universal Time, and in 2004
it will be March 20, at 06:49 am.
The same variation happens with all sign changes.
This is probably one of the best astrology sites! (actually the best I've
seen!) The chart I did gave me an in depth evaluation on every level!! Thanks!

I wrote there to similar questions:
The phase of the Moon is represented by the angle between the
Sun and the Moon in your birth chart, starting at the Sun, counterclockwise.
Zero degrees will be a new moon, 90 degrees a growing half moon, 180 degrees
a full moon, etc.
Dear ..., the angle from the Sun, forward in the zodiac, to
the Moon, is the Moon phase. Just look at the angle between these two
planets in any chart drawing.
If you find this too difficult, please use the 'Lunar Phases Fertility
Calendar' (under the group 'Astrodienst Spezial'). It gives the Phase of the
Moon already computed, as a value between 0° and 359°,

horoscope. One might discover new sides inside oneself, or other persons may
see you a bit differently when the progressed Asc changes. But to me this is

One question: your progressed charts are based on the Native's birth place.
Shouldn't they be calculated on the place where the person is living at the

Alois adds: Would make no sense to me. I never saw an astrologer suggesting such
a technique.
Progressions are a symbolic extension
of the natal chart in its development during the WEEKS after birth (with the
SYMBOLIC rule 1 day = 1 year of life). I cannot see how the current place of living
should be entered there - if anything, then the place where you lived N days
after birth, if you do progression for age of N years.
You said, VOC Moon it is not commonly used in the German speaking
countries... Very interesting, how the astrological tradition and practice
varies!
For your consideration, my suggestion follows for implementing a Moon VOC
feature on the Personal Daly Horoscope page:
My Down Time (Personal Moon VOC) 11:22pm - 3:58a (Tue)
World Down Time (Moon VOC) 8:15pm - 3:58a (Tue)
I've found VOC very useful for planning my activities. When the moon is void,
it is a good time to read, reflect, restore, do one's laundry. At this time,
rushing to catch a plane, meeting a friend or a client, or expecting a
positive outcome to a planned activity results in frustration.
It is even more interesting to compare personal and mundane VOC times. With a
personal VOC time beginning later than the mundane time, one's own trip to
the airport may go smoothly but one might notice fustration and missed
connections for many others. Conversely, with a personal moon VOC beginning
earlier than the mundane time, one might have a bad day where nothing goes
right while everyone else is sailing smoothly (until the others' bad days
kick in). This is very useful in the business world where we must collaborate
with others and commitment and follow-through are standards of
performance.
As a software developer, you might notice bugs, configuration problems, and
customer service issues are more tenacious during VOC periods. That's been my
experience! Of course, my experience of the Moon VOC periods may reflect my
own natal chart. The astrological axiom applies: Your mileage may vary.
Still, a very useful tool for daily consideration.

Dear Alois and all Astro.com users, happy hollidays!
I'd just like to give Astro this most useful web site idea as the coming
Festivity (Winter Solstice) gift:
- I always seem to forget people's birthday dates, moreso if they aren't
relatives of mine. Taking that all my important friends and/or clients have
been included in My Astro, why not add the functionality of alerting me to
their coming birthday?! Those alerts/warnings could be included in the
personal horoscope page - which is my browser's home page thus most probably
(but not always) the 1st page I see each day - or sent to me via email or
both.
I notice Astro.com is totally wasting the power of emailing to its
competitors advantage. The daily horoscope could be sent to everyone of us in
a shorter form, for instance just the computer selected transit, reminding us
everyday that visiting Astro.com is to our advantage. This plus an
advance(user set X days period) reminder of the next coming birthday would be
most useful. Example: Pedro, you're 5 days away from Maria's birthday...
[...maybe you'd like to offer her the Personal Horoscope Calendar...].
Please, Alois, bear in mind that this suggestion is genuine and offered to
you in total good will and sincerety, a small karmic repay for all the good
you have brought to the world.
Best wishes to everyone who cross this path!

A wonderful service! But I wonder if I've overlooked a place where you offer
Moon Void Of Course times. It would be useful to see that on the Personal
Daily Horoscope page. Even better would be both the mundane VOC (affecting
everyone) and the personal VOC times (beginning with the last transit of the
moon to planets in the natal chart). I first saw the calculation of personal
VOC times in the Matrix BlueStar application (circa 1985 -- how far we've
come!). Or perhaps VOC is not so useful in your opinion?
Daniel
Marin County, California, USA --- Friday, December 6, 2002 at 02:27 Universal Time (UT/GMT)
Alois adds: Void of course Moon is on our to-do list. The question is not its usefulness. A fact is that VOC Moon it is not commonly used in the German speaking countries, where
our roots as an astrological computer service are.
The personal VOC is an interesting concept and new to me. As we list Moon transits,
it would be sufficient to list Moon sign ingresses. Then it is easy to deduce
that the time between your last Moon transit and a given Moon sign change is
your personal VOC Moon period.

how can I? when I do not fully understand the underlying principles involved

Alois adds: Brian, because you have asked so nicely, I spent an hour of my sleeping
time and have touched the old code and added a proper 45-degree listing to the
additional data tables in the keller method. Enjoy.
Normally, this would be Dieter's work, but he is curently in southern Africa

I use your Ebertin and Keller midpoint charts a lot. The service is
excellent and I thank you for its provisions.
I have searched high and low for any references to Keller and can find none
whatsever! Can you provide any references please?
Whilst writing I would like to say how appreciative I - and several friends-
would be to have the convenience of a 45 degree listing. (As I use a
Macintosh - dictated by other considerations - I find it imposssible to find
any real choice in suitable mid-point software)
Again many thanks for your services.

Alois adds: Michael Keller of Bern, Switzerland used to be a customer of Astrodienst for many years, and he had his special requirements. Mr Keller ordered thousands of
charts from us, and he was an active researcher in regard to history and to
earthquakes. I have never met him, and he stopped ordering from us in 1994, maybe
because he got his own computer. I have written to him and hope to get some more
information, which I will place here in addition to this reply.
For midpoints in 45° sequence, a trick can be used: run the 2nd harmonic chart,
use the 90°-order table in the extra data tables, and take 1/2 of each listed
value. This is equivalent to a 45° listing.
This is as good as we can do - we do currently not touch this code to add new
features. We just give away for free what we created years ago when this kind of
calculation service was still a viable business and we had customers who paid
for such printouts.

Alois adds: Thank you for the comment, Amy.
Astrodienst and its key author Liz Greene have always been sensitive towards the issue of same-sex relationships. We took great care that our professional reports could be worded properly and had options for same-sex relationships.
Gender dependence in language is minimal in English, but a complex issue in
languages like French or Spanish.
It has been a "user interface" challenge to integrate this feature into the free horoscope area on our website WITHOUT having to ask each person on the natal data entry page about
his/her sexual preferences. I think we have found an elegant solution to offer
this choice for those who want to use it, without bothering everybody with
indiscrete and very personal questions.
We are happy that our efforts are acknowledged.
'Dienst' means 'service' in German, and we really like to serve. By the way, the
word is pronounced like 'deenst'.

Daten in Ihrem Profil.

Alois adds: We do not provide this kind of service. To select a particular date
for an event by astrological means is called 'electional astrology', a field we do
not practice at Astrodienst.
You might subscribe to the 'extende date choice' on our daily horoscope, and then
scan forward in time and check those dates which seem practical for you in regard
to your and your woman's daily horoscope. This procedure will give some useful information,
but it does NOT follow the more specific rules of electional astrology.

In English
heissen die Regenten 'ruler'.
Thank you for your free horoscope readings. I have a imited understanding of
astrology, but was blown away by the accurancy of your readings. Of course,
the true challenge for me is in the interpretation and application!

I never imagined that a computer generated report could be as indepth and
right on as Liz Greene's are. I have ordered the yearly report for myself
and friends, numerous times.
Question: if I order a gift certificate do I have to wait to receive the
hard copy before I can send some kind of identifying number to the gift
recipient? I believe I read that she could access her gift on the website.
Since her birthday is Dec 3, I hope to e-mail her the info by that date.
Thank you--yours is the best astrological source on the web.

Alois adds: The gift certificate is really a nicely printed and exclusively
wrapped certificate, which is more fun to give than just a code number.
But if you send an extra note with your order, and mention that Alois told you to do so, of the certificate, our staff can email
you the certificate code and your friend can use it 12 hours later.
However, the report itself will never be emailed. Your friend will have to wait
for the physical shipment. I presume you are aware of that.
I wish: There was a list of current positions on the charts or a nice neat
little square with them in it that I could move around. I do make myself one
in an extra window, but please spoil me more than you already have. A chatter
like msn has with the current positions would be real cool too. = D Where

Alois adds: I am afraid we cannot change the facts of nature for you. Please
see Homepage -> Swiss Ephemeris -> full documentation for the source of our
calculations. We happen to know what we are doing.
We have daily more than 70'000 visitors on the website, and most of them run
more than one chart. If our chart does not agree with the expectations of the
visitor - for whatever reason - some are quick to assume that Astrodienst computes
incorrectly. Of course this is untrue and a rather naïve assumption.
Actually, Astrodienst is one of the worldwide authorities in the field of
astrological computation.
The documentation of our planetary calculations and the complete source code
is available on our website, under Swiss Ephemeris. Anyone with sufficient
knowledge of astronomy can study these references, and compare them to other
public references for astronomical calculation. Full agreement will be found,
within fractions of arc-seconds.
We know that many falsely computed charts circulate in the world, because
many astrologers are out there who have made errors. Most errors originate
from incorrect data entry / data lookup, and from false timezone information.
While we understand that it is psychologically challenging to accept that a chart
one considered correct for many years is suddenly recognized as false, we cannot help
with that problem. What we can do is to make sure we apply the highest possible standards to
our calculations. We cannot answer for errors made by others.
I do indeed speak from a position of authority, when the subject is astrological
computation. If you find that position 'arrogant and condescending', I cannot
change that.
I admit to a character fault: I have little patience for
those who don't do their homework (e.g. look up a reference book)
before they challenge an authority in a dispute about factual information.
I have had my chart done several times and have always had my moon in
sagitarius, however your chart says that my moon is in cancer. Thought you
should know.
Christy
--- Sunday, December 1, 2002 at 16:56 Universal Time (UT/GMT)
Alois adds: Then your chart must have been done VERY wrongly, as there are about
two weeks between a date with Moon in Cancer and Moon in Sagittarius.
Most likely you have made a data entry error. Please check the date of birth shown on your chart.
Just one observation: my free horiscope today indicates, among other
transits, these two: venus conjunct mars, and mars trine venus. I'm thinking
there must be some error here, and wanted to let you know.
Dec. 1st, 2002.
Becky
--- Sunday, December 1, 2002 at 15:45 Universal Time (UT/GMT)
Alois adds: The error is in your thinking.
A transit is the movement of a 'transiting' planet over a position marked by your 'natal' planet. The first listed is the transiting one, the second is your natal
birth chart position. While the (current) Venus is moving over the place of your natal
Mars, the (current) Mars is trining the place of your natal Venus.

Melissa Jenkins

Alois adds: Our location database is a list of cities and villages. Sicily is the
name of an island, and Italy the name of a country. Try the name of the town in Sicily,
where your sister is born. Make sure of the proper Italian spelling.
When I choose Singapore from the country list for my personal horoscope, the
time zone automatically given is 7h 30min east, Standard Time (+0730 GMT).
