I have been accessing your website for two months or so, and I want to congratulate your effort to offer such a complete and serious site . I would like to place a couple of suggestions.
Under type of chart of astrodienst round could you eventually add ascensional , converse( both solar returns as progressions) and primary directions charts?
Thank you very much for your attention and help

I never had much confidence in astrology--it seemed too trite and simplistic. However, I was impressed by your attention to geographic and astronomic detail, so I thought I'd plug in the data and see what would come of it. I was shocked by the results. For the first time, I was given a personality profile that really described me! I am also impressed by the inclusion of disturbing elements of my life and personality, such as my cold childhood that left deep marks on your [my] subconscious, and my great self-centeredness. I think you are more concerned with the truth than flattery, and with revelation than entertainment. I'm certainly more curious than before.

Alois adds: Thank you for the feedback. If you want to go deeper on that path, the 'Psychological Horoscope' by Liz Greene is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - see AstroShop.

I do not say this because I want to push our sales - we are content with the number of orders and repeat-orders we receive, and we are happy to support our free services from this revenue. However, it is a fact that the quality of our line of 'Astro Intelligence' reports - which we sell - is in many respects superior to what we give a way for free.

My friend is a Libra, and his long term influences seem to change fairly frequently. Im beginning to wonder why mine seem to stay the same for such long periods, even tho new long term influences crop up in daily horoscope readings. Its especially unnerving when the influences are negative ones, and the more positive influences dont get listed.

Hi guys
Fantastic website but the registered user thing is really bugging me. Every time I go back to log in, someone else I don't know has been into the account and deleted my charts and added their own. I don't know any of these folks and it is annoying to have to put everything in new again.

i have been watching your web site, it is very
intersting and getting lot of knowledge.
i have some doubt and not sure of it and need some clarification.duration of pisces ascendant in vancouver should be about one hour and twenty four minutes and for one deg should be about 2.49 min.
checked your website is about one hour.
THANKS.

RABINDER PARHAR [ parharrabinder.xyz*xyz.hotmail.com ]
vancouver, canada --- Monday, October 28, 2002 at 09:18 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: The answer is simple: we do not deal with 'should be'. We KNOW how to compute CORRECTLY.

For any further information on the subject of correct astrological computation, please study the documents in the Swiss Ephemeris area and the source code for ascendant calculation which you find there.

You can also solve the problem by actual observation. Please get yourself a pair of binoculars and a star map. Find two bright stars in the constellation of Aries (which corresponds to the tropical zodiac sign Pisces), as close to the ecliptic as possible, and determine their coordinate difference in ecliptic longitude. Then watch them rise in the east, and determine the difference in rising time (on a flat horizon profile). Now extrapolate from that to a longitude difference of 30 degrees. The rising time difference between 0° Pisces and 0° Aries is about 63m34s in Vancouver, WA.

Later: A reader pointed out that my reply was for the city of Vancouver, Washington USA, while the question was for Vancouver, Canada. Of course, vancouver, canada is further north, and the rising time of Pisces gets even shorter at higher latitudes. It is - according to Tomasz Stramel trustworthy calculation - 57m06s.

Alois adds: This area is for personal feedback about this website, not for re-publication of some articles or books you have read, whoever the author or guru may be.

I have deleted the article and hope you won't try again. You also have violated the author's copyright. You should read the extremely sharp copyright note on the website from where you took the article without permission.

Content-wise, I find that Rajneesh/Osho is talking a lot, as usual, as he was obviously in love with hearing himself talk. I do not deny that he is entertaining. However, his perspective on astrology seems to be outdated and bound to an Indian view of astrology, which has very little to do with a modern western view.

This becomes obvious in sentences like this one: "The average man's curiosity regarding astrology is just to know whether his daughter will get married or not." Only someone with an Indian view of astrology can say something like that. In his articles, Rajneesh is constructing an outdated Hindu-style idea of astrology, which he is then deconstructing. This is what he has been doing with many subjects, in an entertaining way. It may be interesting for an Indian audience, but not so much for us.

It is great that youall posted the longitude ephemeris for Quaoar. But I was really quite surprised that declination wasn't included. It is the opinion of many that declination is just as important as longitude for any astrologcial endeavor. I hope youall will reconsider and include declination too.

Leigh Westin
--- Saturday, October 26, 2002 at 19:12 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: I do not agree about the relevance of declination for "any astrological endeavour". However, as ecliptic latitude is included it will be trivial for an obvious expert like you to deduce declination from the pair of ecliptic longitude and latitude.

it would also be easy to use the 'swetest' utility whose usage for the creation of our published Quaor ephemeris is documented, and add the output flag for declination yourself. You can do this with the downloaded swetest.exe or with the online version at Swiss Ephemeris test page.

I'd just like you guys to know that I've used many programs as well as different ephemeris' to map out my natal chart using both western and vedic methods and every chart says that my moon is in Scorpio, however, your program says that it is located in Leo.

I know that my moon is in Scropio, theres no possible way that its not, every thing,(I'm talking dozens of programs), say that is where it is positioned.

I don't know if perhaps there's was a miscalculation or what but perhaps you should look into it and get back to me. Thanks, (12-19-1984, 6:35pm, USA, Providence, RI)

Jenn [ Freetib3t.xyz*xyz.aol.com ]
RI, USA --- Friday, October 25, 2002 at 19:08 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: Of course your natal Moon is in Scorpio. Look at your natal chart drawing to verify. If you have seen a Leo Moon, you must have entered erroneous birth data, e.g. 12 December 1984. On that date, the Moon was in Leo.

Some Americans may have a slight difficulty with the fact that on our data entry form, the day of the month has to be entered in front of the month - but confusion is minimal, as the month is always given as a word, never as a number.

Wien, Austria --- Friday, October 25, 2002 at 07:05 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

You have an excellent site. There is a problem, though. Your calculations for Pluto are way off. I was doing some even charts, 12th-13th century and there is no way Pluto can move from Virgo to Scorpio in 25 years and back 2 signs in 100 years. Please adjust this. Your site helps with astrological research. Thankyou.

Alois adds: You are of course wrong. You say 'there is no way'. There is exactly one way in which Pluto moves, and this is on its orbital path. Please visit Homepage->[left column] Swiss Ephemeris -> Ful documentation if you want to get an idea about the degree of Astrodienst's computational and astronomical competence.

Please do your homework first before you make such claims. I dislike unqualified and unbased accusations of computational errors.

Even a lay person should know that Pluto's orbit is higly excentric, and it moves much faster in the signs where it is closer to the Sun than in the far part of its orbital ellipse. You can check any printed ephemeris of the 20th century to find about the speed of Pluto in various signs. It takes 31-32 years to move through Taurus, but only 12 years to move through Libra or Scorpio.

Find here a list of sign ingresses of Pluto from 1200 to 2200, which I just computed for you. Dates marked with 'j' are Julian calendar. Times are UT/GMT.

You may want to compare these data with the table published by Neil Michelson in "Tables of Planetary Phenomena", page 63ff. You will find differences by a few days in the years before 1600. This is because Michelsen's data where based on the older DE200 integration by NASA, while our data are based on more modern planetary models by NASA (integration DE405/406).

On the chart, Synastry, and from the data sheet, there is a section entitled, aspects between both. Some of the symbols in this chart of conjunct, trine, etc, have little marks that look like commas, but they are elevated off the baseline. What does this symbol mean?

Marchi
, USA --- Thursday, October 24, 2002 at 20:39 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: The apostroph ' marks in that table are admittedly a bit obscure. They mark those aspects with have more then 50% of the maximum natal orb. Synastry charts double the number of possible aspects, as the number of possible planetary combinations is about twice as large as in a natal chart. It makes sense to consider first only those aspects with a narrow orb, i.e. without the ' mark. The chart drawing contains only those aspects.

I would like to know, on my birth chart what the circle with a perpendicular cross inside means. The only thing I have found is that it has something to do with... Earth, which was in one rare list of planets, and lunar phases, and that it may have to do with my being a cresent moon. There is no explination of this symbol anywhere. Can you explain it to me? On my birth chart is says the symbol, then 13 degrees, symbol of scorpio, and 02'. In second house. I appreciate any help. Sincerely, Brandy

Alois adds: Please read more carefully the context of each transit.

Your daily horoscope has (for tomorrow the 25th): Transit selected for today: Sun Conjunction Med.Coeli activity period from 25 October 2002 to 27 October 2002.

and it has: Important long-term influences:
Sun in the 9th House 9 activity period from 23 September 2002 to 26 October 2002.

Ths Sun moved though your (natal) 9th house, approximately with 1 degree per day. It approaches the MC, and when we give this transit an orbis of 1 degree to each side, this is exactly the timing what you get above. The MC is the end of house 9 and begin of house 10. One side is house 9, the other is house 10. The Sun moves in the direction of the zodiac, from 9 to 10, in transit over natal. We are NOT discussing its daily path on the sky, but its path through the natal chart.

Come on folks, there has to be something good about squares. I'm looking at my forecaset and I have one square after another, or after an opposition. Can't we find the good side of this?

Victim of the stars? What's going on? How come a trine is so blessed and an opposition so damned? What's wrong with planets sitting opposite each other, why should it give rise to conflict?

Is there any hope?

Dear Astrodienst,

First of all I want to thank the marvelous work that you have done building and keeping this site. I am very deep into Astrology and past lives and I wonder why the only Natal Charts that everybody chart are the ones at exactly the birth time. What about the time of conception? Shouln't be considered that time also? I think it should be even be more important. The individual exist from the moment he is conceived.I believe those chart are called pre-natal, but I have not been able to find much information about them. Can you tell me where I can find more insight on this?

Thanks a lot.

Marta.

Marta Garcia [ mgarcia ]
Daytona Beach, USA --- Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at 02:59 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: First of all, astrology is pragmatic, i.e. it uses what is avaiable. Birth dates and times are observable quantities and traditionally well documented. Conception dates and times are mostly unknown, except in special cases.

Second, the existence of a person as an 'individual' is more related to birth than to conception. The fate of a fertilized egg cell is still quite uncertain, and it does not yet constitute a person at that stage. Only a potential person. Each unfertilized egg cell, each sperm cell, actually each cell of the body constitutes a potential person to some extent as well, particularily in the age of cloning.

But this second argument may just be a rationalisation for the first one. It is certainly justified to make a conception chart if the moment of conception is well known, as in the case of in vitro fertilization.

Some astrologers use 'prenatal charts' or 'karmic charts' which have little to do with the (usually unknown) moment of conception. They create these 'prenatal' charts by some technical manipulation, e.g. the swapping of some birth chart factors. You should consult the work of individual astrologers who use such concepts to learn more.
See for example http://www.azastrologers.org/Articles/McDonaldDraconic.pdf This is an acrobat/pdf document which I googled out with the search term "prenatal chart". The link is NOT a recommendation, only an example.

Lieber Alois, 1.

Just wanted to say that I LOVE the pictures that accompany the Personal Daily Horoscope. I've always thought of them as Rorschach tests. I look at them and see what I can see in them, read the horoscope, and meditate on what the connection between the picture and the message may be.
So I wonder, is that the reason for the choice of the pictures? I know that the same pictures don't always accompany the same horoscope readings.
In any case, the pictures are marvellous.
Thanks!

Alois adds: You got it right. We wanted to add a reflective, meditative element to the more or less factual and rational information in the text of the daily horoscope.

One of our developers had an artist friend - she is Dr Gera Maier Kren, professor for history of art in Munich - who he knew loved to do small format pen-and-ink drawings and collages. We commissioned this artist to create about 600 drawings for us. The original drawings were about 14 x 10 cm, in black and grey. We scanned and dithered the drawings for reproduction with black/white laser printers. The output medium was paper, the Personal Horoscope Calendar. This was before we had the website. For the later usage on the web, we added an artificial colour tone.

Our developer made the assiciations, i.e. for each transit reading in the daily horoscope a list of drawings was selected which had some associative connection with the reading. Our computer selects the images from this short list of drawings for each transit, making sure that within the same year for the same person there are as few repetitions as possible.

My research led me to propose a tenth planet, omega for my MS, New Age Wisdom, which I sent to publishers Mr 2001. Its orbital period is 284 years, based upon its effects here on earth--people and the major countries, thus explaining wars, stock market, etc. The same for Pluto. In fact, I showed that the major events in these people's and countries' events could be explained by using just Uranus, Pluto, and Omega(Omega thus the right name for Quaoar with its present orbital period given as 285 years.) Thus it is known that Pluto and Omega are true planets(as is Ceres), due to their effects upon us here on earth. Davje

I notice that your horoscopes refer only to my own attitudes and perspectives. You never show how others may, on a given day, affect the situation. In other words, whether another sign may cross paths with me, affecting the day's horoscope.

QUAOAR EPHEMERIS .. I researched my specific
dates positions, and noticed each 25 year cycle in sign
showed a significant challenge to that sign in the latter part of the period, Virgo(18-43) was work job systems, Libra(43-68) was the love peace of the 60's, Scorpio(68-93) was the abuse and sexual obsession of the 80's, Sagittarius(93-17) I believe is the current dilemma regarding God, and religions, as well as excess use of resources., and the environment.
eu.1444.net - Eagle site...welcme comments on
Quaoar. I wonder yet with Quaoar at my birth 10 libra conjunct my Mars what that might mean. I was a good athlete in pre-school through High School.

I am curious as to why planets in the latter degrees of a house are interpreted as if they fall in the following house. For example, I have Saturn at 25 degrees, 19 minutes of Gemini, which falls in my 11th house, yet the reading for this planet interprets this late placement as if it were in the 12th house. I don't understand the rationale for this. Could you comment?

Lieber Alois Treindl,

Conny.

The so called 'true black moon' is a rather questionable thing. Please, visit the Swiss Ephemeris area and read the documentation there to understand why: Full documentation, section 2.2.3 The Osculating Apogee (so-called 'True Lilith' or 'True Dark Moon').

If afterwards you still think you want its position, please use the Swiss Ephemeris test page and use planet selection -p: a
You will find the 'true black moon' listed as 'osc. Apogee'. We dislike to use the word 'true' in this connection and use the astronomically more appropriate term 'osculating'.

The transits of 'black Moon' are not in the daily horoscope because our authors did not write text for them. Outside France this horoscope factor is much less popular than in your country.

Hi i wrote in your feed back a few days ago and you mentioned that i should stay away from astrology for a while cos its not very healthy for my psychological balance. But i'm very determined to find the truth so much so that knowing that things are quite predetermined do not really bother me. I've had some visions of the future before (in my dreams) and it shocked me to find that the visions were spot on accurate. But i do believe the fact that we direct our lives. But we have very little power. Much of what we experience is governed by forces...mostly astrological. I think staying away from astrology is merely running away from a truth. I would like to ask: Is astrology related to Karma? As in a person's astrological influences was due to what ever actions he/she had committed in the past?

A new celestial object has been discovered near the orbit of Pluto, with about half the size of Pluto. It has been named Quaoar by its discoverers Michael Brown and Chadwick Trujillo. Quaoar is the creator deity of the Tongva native Americans.

More astronomical information can be found at http://oposite.stsci.edu/pubinfo/pr/2002/17/pr.html

At Astrodienst / www.astro.com, my colleague Dieter Koch has computed its ephemeris, see homepage, left column, or click here.

Quaoar can also be inserted into natal charts, as asteroid number 60000 (please use: Free Horoscopes - Extended chart selection).

PS: this is only a temporary asteroid number, valid until the object will be assigned an official number.

Why is that?

Hi!
I wrote before, asking about Galactic Center and the possibility of a universal center. There was no response, and I'm puzzled. It seems unlikely that a site that considers thousands of asteroids and other subtle factors would ignore something huge and magnetic like the Super Galactic Center.
My question still remains: how may I obtain information on how my chart and planets relate to the Galactic Center?
The other question was about the presence of a universal center. Galaxies rotate around a central point, and some believe entire universes rotate around a central point of origin. I was wondering if astrology dealt with that, and if so, how I could get that information.
I'm seeking your answer because your site seems so vast in its knowledge of Astrology. Hopefully you can help.
Thank you Nahalo

Nahalo [ miraclespoken.xyz*xyz.angelfire.lycos.com ]
Buffalo, USA --- Monday, October 7, 2002 at 19:03 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: The Galactic center is at a fixed location, approx. 27° Sagittarius. In the tropical zodiac, it only moves by precession, approx. 1 degree in 72 years.

You can compute its location - and that of any other fixed star, in the Swiss Ephemeris test page: http://www.astro.com/swisseph/swetest.htm

For the Galactic center, use in field -p: f
and in field other options: -xfGal

Astrology, as we practice it, is concerned only with the Solar system and its planets (our close cosmic home), not with fixed stars.

regarding your ideas of the universe: there is no center in 3-dimensional space, as far as we know. Imagine a balloon which you inflate. No point on the surface of the spherical balloon is closer to the center than any other. The center from which inflation started is not in the same dimension as the surface of the balloon which we perceive. This is just an example for a two-dimensional surface curved in a third dimension. The universe of course has spatial character, curved in a higher dimension, but the example still applies.

Last week I was able to obtain the station direct and retrograde dates, times, and degrees. However today (October 7) the same dates and times only gives direct or retrograde. Please advise me how I can again obtain the stationing information.

We have taken the 'sd' and 'sr' marks out of the chart drawing listing, because it masked the also important information whether a planet was - during the near-station pahse - still retrograde or already direct. In the additional data tables, there is also a speed column, so that the information is really complete there.

Your web site is my main and best reference on the web and I use it daily.

I know also that when we have created such an extraodinary baby (I mean this web site as a result of your more than positive collaboration between yourself and Liz Greene), somehow, one desires to make it grow.

I know by example that you are working on its translation in several languages. My question is: Do you have already planned other next steps? Do you also maintain a list of the next functionalities you would like to add if one day you get time and money? Do you publish such a list on your web site?

I value very much your work and would be happy to get inform about the direction it will go in the future, I mean a concrete future (planned actions bec you can have the resource) as well as a potential furure (what functionalities you would like to add if only you had the resource). Who knows, if you publish such wishes, some help may comes.

Also what about suggestions people give you sometimes in this feedback section? Do you keep them in a list and discuss their usefulness and faisability innerly in your team?

Anyway, thanks for your website I consider as best reference on the web in astrology!!

Dear Alois, I have problem to explain my secondary progression. For this year, from 27.4. I have my progressive Moon 2 degrre Aries in trine to my Radix Mars 2 degrees of Leo (10.H.). Can you explain what that means for me? Thank you very much!

Thought for you - Since the foreign language home page banner is designed to reach a Spanish speaking audience, why not write the banner in Spanish? That way your target audience will understand what you are offering them.

Alois adds: We had to assume that - until recently - all Spanish speaking visitors used the english version of the website, as there was no Spanish version. Anyway, the special message was intended only for a few days and has now done its purpose.

Thank you very much for the site which I use quitefrequently. What system of Secondary Progression are you using? The progressed angles are different from those in other programs. The Prog. MC, for example, seems to be about 3 years (3 degrees) behind the solar arc differential, which I was taught to calculate lo those many years ago to find the Sec. Progs. MC.
