When constructing a composite chart it is a mistake to give priority to the MC/IC axis, and there is no good reason for doing it. The near midpoint of the ascendants of the two constituent charts gives the composite ascendant - this is the STARTING POINT for the construction of a composite chart. I hope you have the humility to correct this mistake in your programming (surely it is not Robert Hand's method that the MC be given priority - regardless - it is incorrect). Analysis of composite charts reveals that the correct ascendant, planets in houses and house rulers are always given by the chart with the ascendant equal to the near midpoint of the ascendants of the two constituent charts. This is common knowledge and also the method endorsed by popular writers such as Liz Greene and Erin Sullivan (CPA series). Of course, in most composite charts it doesn't make any difference - and that is why this mistake has existed unchallenged for so long - nevertheless it needs correcting. Contrary to some writers, there are technical methods in astrology that work and there are those that don't work - those that are erroneous. Astrodienst is too widely known and influential to be propagating this mistake.

Simon Forman [ Sifortunehotmail.com ] (visiting www.astro.com)
Brighton, UK --- Thursday, February 28, 2002 at 13:04 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: I am afraid I do not agree with your opinion. Many technical decisions in astrology are a matter of personal taste and preference, e.g. the choice of house system or the orbes and the selection of aspects. The issue of the Composite houses is also such a decision of preference. Nobody forces you to share OUR preferences, which are in fact in agreement with Liz Greene's practice, as implemented in her Relationship Horoscope.

There is no pope in astrology which prescribes what everyone has to believe. Apparently your particular opinion is either not 'common' knowledge, or I am not common, or have no knowledge. Take your pick. Readers of my responses will know that I am not without pride in my work, but I am not arrogant enough, Simon Forman, to challenge those who make different technical choices as 'erroneous, who should correct themselves with humility'.

Robert Hand's preferred technique - as described in Planets in Composite - is this: he computes only the MC midpoint. From that he derives the RAMC. Then he uses the latitude of the 'reference place' (usually where a couple lives) to compute the Ascendant and the other house cusps, using a table of houses. The Ascendant in Robert Hand's technique is NOT computed as a midpoint. Herewith he avoids also the problem of having to swap some of the house cusps, if they would fall on the wrong side of the MC. Astrodienst has chosen not to follow Robert Hand in the free 'Short Report Partner' even while it is based on Robert's Hand text. We rather use Liz Greene's technique, so that there is no technical difference between the Relationship Horoscope and the Hand-based report. This is justifiable because Robert Hand leaves the technical decision in his book - and according to personal communication - to the individual astrologer.

Liz Greene has chosen her method so that the MC, the general orientation of the chart and in most cases the Ascendant sign agrees with the Robert Hand method, while the exact degree of the Ascendant and intermediate house cusps will differ due to the different calculation details.

I found my free personal horoscope to be quite fitting and was very pleased. However, the daily horosope for 28th Feb seems to be very much out. I feel and experience rather the opposite from what is written. In fact I am sick, weak and very much on the warpath in my mind and very irritrable.

Greetings to Astrodienst!
Once more have to say that this site is something of a guiding star. Many many thanks. I just got Liz Greene's Career and Vocation Horoscope, and I just can't stop smiling for two days. Her insight into human psyche and programmer's skill together create the most valuable thing one can get - the mirror, in which everything about one is reflected. If one is on the path or self-discovery and understands that Knowlegde of Self is the key to the Universe, than Liz is simply the keeper of the key and the programmer is a messenger. Everyone who is in doubt or unhappy about the state of their vocational achievements should definitely get one. It felt like Go Ahead from Heaven. Once again, many thanks to you all.
I have one question, but don't really know how to formulate it properly. Alois, in one of the feedbacks about Black Moon you mention Russian colleagues, could you please let me know where I can get any information at all on Russian Astrological Society, if one exists, or any links that could be helpful. I am Russian, living in England, and all my self-education is in English (because all the books are!). I feel sometimes that it would be good to read a book or two in my native language, which I am starting to forget how to speak to properly, and also, would like to know more about Russian astrologers, as apart from Tamara and Pavel Globa, I haven't heard about any serious russian astrologers, (however, I understand fully that it doesn't mean anything, as in my humble opinion, in Russia, all the best things are deep undeground). I will appreciate any information from anyone.
Once again, thank you and best of luck in all your future endeavours.

Best regards,

Dear Astrodienst,
My ASC 11 deg. Aries, partner 5 deg. Libra.
Your computed midpoint result in a composite ASC 8 deg. Capricorn. It seems to me that there is a bug in your sw. Geometrically speaking it should be 8 deg. Cancer.
Thank you for your explaination.
Best Regards.
Abacus

abacus [ aabacushotmail.com ] (visiting www.astro.com)
pasadena, usa --- Thursday, February 28, 2002 at 02:14 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: The problem is that one cannot look at the ASC in an isolated way. Please look at the MC in your composite and check its calculation. You will find it correct. Now placing the ASC in Cancer, as the raw calculation result would suggest, gives an impossible chart with an impossible sequence of houses. This is why the ASC/DESC axis is swapped in such cases. We give the MC/IC axis priority. Please be aware that for midpoints, you always have an axis with a near and a far midpoint for each pair of factors. Both midpoints are nearly equivalent in meaning and can be swapped if needed. Many astrologers swap Mercury and Venus by 180 degrees in the Composite, if they would otherwise fall opposite the Sun.

In reading your article, Lilith-The Dark Moon on your site under the Advanced Articles section, I see that you have assumed that the Black Moon and the Dark Moon are the same thing. But they are not. The Black Moon Lilith is the Moon's apogee, or the farthest point from the Earth, while the Dark Moon Lilith is an actual body in the sky that doesn't reflect light. It has been documented by astronomers. I have all the details on the differences between the Black Moon, the Dark Moon and the asteroid Lilith in an article called 3 Liliths Info at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/3Liliths I also have an article on delineating the 3 Liliths in your chart. You don't have to be a member to see the articles. It is not a discussion group.

Sue Simmons [ KumuAstroSueyahoo.com ] (visiting www.astro.com)
--- Wednesday, February 27, 2002 at 23:59 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois: Sue, your documentation of the three Liliths is really valuable, thank you for making it available. I do however not agree with your evaluation of the relevance, where you present the "three Liliths" as if they all were in common use.

As far as I know, the astrological tradition of Lilith/Dark Moon originates primarily in France and has spread over large parts of Europe in the last 25 years from there. At least in Europe, Lilith always refers to the second focal point of the Lunar orbit, or to the Lunar apogee, which both are on the same axis and at the same position of the zodiac, from a geocentric viewpoint.

The terms 'dark moon' and 'black moon' are both used for the same mathematical point.

What you mention is one of several obscure outsider-theories about a fictious second Earth Moon. These are to my knowledge not documented by contemporary astronomers, even when a 100 years ago some astronomers have claimed to have seen such invisible objects. I presume you refer to the fictious body 'dicovered' by German astronomer Waldemath in 1898, later picked up by the astrologer Sepharial, who named it Lilith and constructed a fictious ephemeris for it. The object is assumed to have 700 km diameter and an orbital period of 119 days. Astrodienst does generally not consider fictious objects which have no basis in astronomical reality. Despite this reservation, some fictious objects are included in Swiss Ephemeris as a convenience for other astrological software developers who want to include these objects in their programs. This does not imply that Astrodienst considers such objects relevant. The Waldemath/Sepharial object is currently not included in Swiss Ephemeris. Russian astrologers use another fictous Earth Moon, the 'white moon' or 'Selena' which we have recently added to Swiss Ephemeris on request by some Russian colleagues. Please see section 2.6 of the Swiss Ephemeris documentation for our policy as ephemeris authority regarding fictious objects.

We respect that astrology is a field which is 'free for all' including 'all wild theories', and anyone has the liberty to invent what they like and to call it what they like.

The asteroid Lilith is a real asteroid (#1181), but there is no relevant astrological tradition associated with it. Currently there are about 36'000 numbered asteroids known with precise orbits, in the average you find 100 of them in every degree of the zodiac.

For more information on the fictious second Moon, please see the article Hypothetical Planets which is part of the valuable documentation about the Solar System by Bill Arnett. YOu find a link in the 'external links' area which is accessible from our homepage (left column, near bottom).

Why is the south node not a part of any of the charts? Different astrology techniques hold to different attitudes about nodes, but you all use the north node. Why not the south?

Many of the chart styles available at Astrodienst represent work from the early 1980ies when Astrodienst's main revenue originated from its chart drawing service for a variety of professional astrologers and astrology schools and astrology students in Switzerland and Germany. This was before the advent of PCs with colour printers in the home area.
Bruno and Louise Huber (did) run a well known astrological school near Zurich, the API (Astrologisch Psychologisches Institut), generally known as the Huber school. The founder Bruno Huber died a few years ago. Now his wife and his son Michael are keeping up the work.

You ought to be aware that Huber is one of the most common names in the German speaking countries, like 'Smith' in English speaking countries.

........ The best way to handle this period is to get into comfortable surroundings and reduce the stress level in your life as much as possible. Stress will only prolong the confusion. Try to avoid making any decisions, because you are not in a very good frame of mind for seeing things clearly. Avoid people who seem difficult or demoralizing. You need to be in a calm position so that you can see what new truths emerge from the fog and confusion. And they will emerge........

Alois adds: The Medium Coeli (MC) computed for the time midpoint, which is the basis of the Davison chart, deviates very slightly (usually by less than than 1 degree) from the composite MC (computed as the midpoint between the two personal MCs). The time correction applied to the standard Davison chart brings its MC into perfect alignment with the meridian axis of the composite chart. Most astrologers read the composite chart and the Davison chart together.

I read my child analysis with great interest ! I am positively suprised that I am identified as having the Peter Pan's Personality. For years, I have had a great interest in Peter Pan's story or any transposition. Sure I can recognize myself in that character.

Well, I don't know if you are allow to answer my next question but I would be really pleased if you could. What kind of planets combinaison makes a Peter Pan ?

I am Leo, rising sun in gemini, moon in cancer, uranus in leo. Are those the necessary ingrediants ?

Please can you help me with some more details or point me to adequate readings ?

I would be very grateful for any information on the astrological aspects on Peter Pan.

Gérard Sorée [ gerard_soreehotmail.com ] (visiting www.astro.com)
Brussels, Belgium --- Monday, February 25, 2002 at 15:24 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: The 'Peter Pan' archetypal image which Liz Greene uses in the Child's Horoscope is the same as the 'Puer Aeternus' or 'Puella Aeterna' archetype in Jungian psychology, just adapted for a child's psychological situation. If you search the Jungian literature for Puer Aeternus (the eternal young man), you will find more.

Regarding the horoscope factors which we use to identify the Peter Pan / Puer Aeternus figure as one of the leading issues in your chart: This is a rather complex system, which we do not generally reveal. The decision results from a dynamic interplay of astrological patterns, where the absence of some factors can be just as important as the presence of others. Often the strength of the 'shadow' is relevant to make some issue the dominant one, as our system tends to search for the strongest inner conflict in a person's psyche, if there is one, which is not always the case. I am afraid I cannot answer your question in full detail.

Among the positve factors considered for the PP archetype, we use:
- strong placements in Gemini, Leo or Sagittarius
- strong aspects between Sun or Moon and Jupiter or Uranus
- strong aspects between Venus and Uranus
- hard aspects between Venus and Jupiter
- Uranus or Jupiter at the Ascendant
- Uranus conjunct Chiron
- Neptune or Pluto in house 10
- Saturn or Chiron in house 8
- Uranus in house 7
- Mars conjunct Uranus or Chiron

Sehr geehrtes Astroteam

Hello THANK YOU, I've been using your site for years I love it!
Two questions though:

1) Solar Fire has my Progressed Ascendant at 1 Taurus your site has it at 27 Aries. This would seem a pretty big difference to me, why would that happen??

2) A friend of mine has Uranus conjunct his Moon right now. Your site doesn't list it in his Personal Horoscope! I was wondering why that would be, as I consider it a major major transit for him, and was looking forward to your interpretation :(

Regarding your friend and Uranus conjunct Moon: You need to tell the birth data - none of the stored natal data in your account has Uranus conjunct Moon, so you seem to refer to another set of natal data outside your account.

What do you mean by 'his Personal Horoscope'? There is no such item on our website. If you refer to the 'Short report forecast', you should read the introduction. This short report is incomplete by design. If you refer to the 'Personal Daily Horoscope', you should be aware that it lists a transit only for the day when a transit is exact. On the day when a person's Uranus-Moon transit is EXACT it will be listed. The list of 'long term influences' is always truncated to three entries. It is hard to predict which ones make it into that list. Not only 'importance' is taken into account (then we would have to list some slow transits on each day of many months, which would be boring) but also 'variation of content'.

Thank you! It was amazing to read such accured discription of me. Some things didn't mach, but thats quite understandable. It just got me thinking: since you had these anserws already written are there same kind of persons than me? And if so, how can I reach them?
This was a very intressant expirience for me.

Hi all,

first of all thanks for your good homepage, it has got lots of very interesting informations!

I was pointed to your site with a link from the German astrowoche.de to find my ascendent. I did not find any place to calculate it.

Could you please help me?

Thanks very much in advance, Uli Frank

Alois adds: You may want use the 'switch to german' link on the homepage as your first step.

Then, click on 'Free Horoscopes' (Gratishoroskope) in the menu bar.
On the horoscope selection page, use 'chart drawing' (Horoskopzeichnung).
You will be directed to new data entry, as you will not have stored natal data at your first visit. Already during data entry the ascendant is computed. On the chart drawing, the sign of the ascendant is indicated in words in the top left area.

i could not get the image to print separately when clicking on it as your directions suggested. the chart printed all but the right 10%. thanks for the service in any case :-)

Your site is awesome! I totally love all the new features. They help me learn so much about not only myself but my ex-spouse and also my children. And finally I understand my own mother's mood swings. Keep up the good work, cause I check my transits everyday -- and the long-term effect are marvelous. I have been reading about two transits lasting off and on for about two years in my chart. One is Neptune opposite Venus and the other one which is not currently showing concerns losing face or appearing to have failed somehow. This site is incredibly accurate and most generous. My problem is regarding these two transits. I experienced both of them two years ago and they also lasted about two years. What's up with that and how can that be? I treated myself to Liz Greene's psychological report a few months ago and was most impressed. Thank you. Oh, and PS Don't know why you get those occasional complaints regarding some of your responses. I love your quick wit and I sit here and smile my head off....

Alois adds: I do not really understand the question. Why should a transit of a slow planet like Neptune, which goes back and forth over the same natal point, NOT last two years, if you tale a certain orb into account? If in doubt, use an ephemeris to track Neptune's movement in relationship to any of your natal planet position. A conventient way to track it is in:
->Free Horoscopes
->Extended chart selection
->group Astrodienst special
->chart type: Graphical ephemeris for 5 years, with natal

Look for the orange coloured wave-like Neptune line, and how it moves relative to the horizontal natal Venus line (also in orange).

For instance in Serbia Titovo Uzice is Uzice today
Titova Mitrovica is Kosovska Mitrovica
Titov Vrbas is Vrbas
Titovo Velenje is Velenje /Slovenia /
Titova Korenica in Croatia/I am not sure about present name/
Titov Veles is Veles/Macedonia/
Titograd is Podgorica/Montenegro/
I do not know about the city in Bosnia and Herzegovina but there is one I am sure.

Also in Serbia former Svetozarevo is Jagodina today.

I've really enjoyed using your website for several years. It is great and often tremendously intuitive and
perceptive. However my faith was slightly shaken yesterday, when my daily horoscope missed by far the most
important aspect of the day, my once-in-a-lifetime Chiron return (Chiron conjunct Chiron at Capricorn 6

here?

Alois adds: The coverage of Chiron transits in the daily horoscope is not complete in all languages. Chiron transits had not been treated by Robert Hand in his original work which was done before its discovery. They were added by Astrodienst staff writers, and not all this text has been translated into other languages than German.

Hello AstroDienst! When I found your site I was very impressed. Particularly with psychological approach to interpreting charts in detail.
However, when comparing the charts drawing with other sites I've noticed that your charts always differ in calculations with others. In particular ASCs in your charts always appear farther than in charts drawn by other sites calculations, even for though definate charts I know for sure are correct. The differnce is exactly of 1 hour, ie if I use your calculations with -1 hour birthtime I get a 'correct' picture.
This brought me to ask you if possible please to clarify on what calculation system you use for chart drawing?
I truely appreciate your reply
With respect
Irina

Irina [ irinka_dhotmail.com ] (visiting www.astro.com)

Alois adds: There should not be any difference in the Ascendant, with all kinds of western astrological techniques. Only if you use the sidereal (Hindu) system, you get shifted placements for planets and Ascendant.

If a chart differs from Astrodienst, it is likely to be computed incorrectly.

I have never seen a horoscope place my Sun in the ninth instead of the tenth and my moon in the fifth instead of the fourth house. Also Saturn has always appeared in the first house not the twelfth in other natal charts. I realize there are many systems of astrology. It isn't that I believe you are in error, only that I wish to understand. How are you arriving at these particular placements?

John Cross [ johncareyinternet.com ] (visiting www.astro.com)
Oxford, MA, USA --- Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at 14:58 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: The same answer applies to you as to the question one further up. While different house systems (we use by default Placodus) may place some planets in different houses, this is not true for the Ascendant, i.e. the house cusp separating house 12 from house 1.

Either you have been using a sidereal Hindu-style chart before, or it was computed incorrectly, if the Ascendant differs.

If you want more information about Astrodienst's computational skill and competence, please go to the Swiss Ephemeris area and read the document labelled as "Full Documentation".

The planetary positions and the positions of the Ascendant and Medium Coeli at a given date and place are facts of nature. They can only be computed right or wrong, there is no room for discussion or opinion about them. Astrodienst does the computations right. We cannot speak for other horoscope sources.

Mary Lynn [ MRuzza9yahoo.com ] (visiting www.astro.com)

On February 20th this year (next Wednesday), precisely at 8.02 p.m., a
remarkable, palindromic moment in time will occur. Although not marked by
any chiming of clocks or ringing of bells, at that precise time and on that
specific date, something will happen which has not occurred for over 1,000
years.

And it will never happen again - ever!

As the clock ticks over from 8.01p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, time will
(for sixty seconds only) reckon in a perfect symmetry: 20:02, 20/02, 2002.
This is known as a palindrome - i.e., when a set of numbers or letters
reads exactly the same forward and backward.

This is an event which, since the beginning of time, has happened only once
before. That previous occasion was long before the digital watch and the
24-hour clock were invented. It occurred on January 10, 1001, at 10.01a.m.
[10:01, 10/01, 1001]. Because there are only 24 hours in a day, after
February 20th of this year, there will never again be an occasion when time
will reckon palindromically in this way.

Don't miss your moment in history.

Sheldan Collins (visiting www.astro.com)
--- Monday, February 18, 2002 at 18:22 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: I tend to deflate this kind of 'information'. There is no astrology in that. The same clock reading happens about 25 times on this planet depending on the timezone someone lives in (countries like India are at non-integer hour shifts, so that the number of timezones is higher than 24). There is a severe cultural bias, because other cultures have different calendars than you do. In the end, it is just a nice number game. Some people tend to time their weddings to such dates, probably helps them to remember the wedding date.

Can you point me to a source, perhaps on the web, that offers basic descriptions of the common asteroids and their astrological meanings? Perahps this is in your website and I have missed it? Thank you.

Dear Dr. Treindl

1. I would like to support your side regarding the critics against the style in which you respond to many of the comments and questions on this feedback column. It is true that sometimes you are ironic, even cynical. But, hey, let's face it: you are a normal human being, and let's not forget: you do that FOR FREE (!). Astrodienst after all is your child, and you should be allowed to do with it what you want.

2. I would like to suggest to you another business idea (although I sense that making money is not and never was the ultimate goal of Astrodienst - take it as a wish from an ardent user of your site, then): Several times I wanted to present to some of my closest friends some of your reports (especially Career and Vocation and the like). They are though not that much close friends that I could ask them for their precise birth time. If they want to keep privacy, they then can't else but order the report themselves. But that would not make a nice present from me to them - I would have to ask them to send me the bill or something similarly unromantic. THEREFORE: What would you think about a kind of present voucher? I buy the voucher from Astrodienst (and by that pay for the report) on behalf of a friend of mine, and my friend than can order the report and disclose her/his birth date to you only? Kind of Geschenkgutschein? I really think this might boost your revenue (although, again, I know that this is not your ultimate goal). For me, too, it would be quite convenient and nice if I had this possibility. Well, so far just as a suggestion for your service of which I am an ardent fan.

Best regards to you in Zollikon. I hear the weather is just wonderful around the lake now.

I just have a comment regarding your recent response to Catherine on Feb 14. This innocent student, and praiser of your site was merely asking about how different planetary locations may affect her. Isn't this what Astro-Click Travel is all about? Regardless of what you think about 'traveling during solar returns', your comment is hippocratic, juvenile, unprofessional and rude. You should be grateful to the people that praise your site (however far along they may be in their personal study of astrology) for they are the ones that keep you in existence.

Liebes Astro-Dienst-Team,

Alois adds: Zwei grundlegende Fehler:

Und was stimmt denn dann?

Vielen Dank.

I recently became aware of something called Solar Return, which in my understanding is a strong influence for the year based on where geographically you spend your actual birth day +/- a couple of days. I have never heard this before from an Astrologer, but this particular one actually encourages people to travel to a different place on their birthday to influence events of the coming year. Is this correct? How would someone find out about which places would be a positive influence? Thanks for your website. One Love! Catherine

Alois adds: I consider this kind of advice which was given to you as mainly good for the airline industry which is currently suffering. So at least someone will profit from it. Astrology however is not a game which one wins by hopping around the planet.

I know that some astrologers teach that by hopping to another place for a few hours on your birthday one can manipulate fate for the next year, but I think this is nonsense. Not everything some astrologer says is wise and meaningful.

Alois adds: Surely not. The service is for free on the Internet, and we assume that Internet connectivity is going to be a standard feature available everywhere, including the mobile world. You are also probably not aware that our service is not the delivery of static content, but that there is considerable software power behind each click. It would never be a content- oriented CDROM, but a computation-oriented PC program, if we would want to make our services available offline for local PC users.

I personally think that owning local software or local CDROM content will become uncommon as more and more online services become available. It has the big advantage that there exist very few copies of the software (on the servers only) which need to be maintained and supported. This is an incredible advantage both for the developer and the user, who is always automatically using the latest revision. All you need is a browser and an Internet link.

You probably also don't own your own cow. You buy the milk and cheese when you need it. At astro.com, you even get it for free!

Venus the Personal (Taurus) v. a v.
Varuna the Collective (Libra) in values and relationships:
Quote #1 from Paul Wright's Astrology in Action: Libra is a sign that relates to moral codes, to those values adopted by a society
(ian-i.e. outer planet) because they are held at a basic level (again-outer planet) to be right and proper and conducive to the common good.
Quote #2 from Liz Greene's Astrology of Fate:
Libra does not see it as an individual issue
(ian-i.e. personal planet), but rather one of finding the universal ethics (outer planet)
which transcend mere human choice (personal planet)
From these statements we can see that Libra
must have it's own outer planet ruler.
Could this be the newly discovered Varuna?
This planet was discovered in Y2K, the rough marker for the beginning of the Age of Aqaurius/Leo. If Varuna indeed be the outer planet ruler of Libra, then it seems appropriate in light of our dawning awareness of the need
as a planet to come to terms with individualism (Leo) vs. the need for progress of all (Aquarius). What better mediator than a collective, outer planet ruler of Libra?

Alois adds: I have been confronted with the twin question before, having twin daughters, twin siblings and two pairs of twin uncles.

Our list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) accessible from the Homepage contains a section on twins. I quote:

Twins often have almost the same birth chart - and yet they are different, separate people. How is this to be explained? Each chart contains several inner themes or archetypal figures, depending on what term you use. Usually, these themes are the life scenario of one single person, who will be able to identify easily and gladly with some of them, while "projecting" other parts onto people and things around him. Twins divide the chart up between them. Usually, the "alpha twin" is stronger and takes his or her pick of the themes, leaving the rest to the other. This distribution of contents can change in the course of a life. Research on twins has shown that when twins are separated, they often grow up living very similar lives, since they can both take on those themes, which naturally come up first, without the risk of losing identity.

Liz Greene writes about this issue in the Child's Horoscope introduction:

This child is one of a pair of twins. He/she shares with the other twin an almost identical birth horoscope. But any parent of twins will recognise that each has his or her own distinctive personality. Twins, sharing many personality characteristics, often try especially hard to define their own psychological territory, and often they do this by a kind of "division" of the birth chart. One twin will appropriate certain features of the horoscope while the other twin will appropriate the rest. Twins tend to polarise. In their need to assert a separate individuality they may both unconsciously avoid sharing qualities, which they fear will make them too like the other. The perceptive parent may observe that in early childhood twins periodically exchange roles, each one trying out personality traits which the other was displaying a little while earlier. The polarising process sets in a little while later on. As they grow older and develop separate lives twins usually find it easier to own and express those qualities they "gave away" to the other twin in early life. And the unique spark of individuality within will always ensure that, even if they look alike, they will remain distinct individuals with a unique journey through life.

I really like this site, but in the section AstroClick portrait, some information are quite opposite from others.

How about converse progressions as part of the categories to choose from. I love your site.

Justin (visiting www.astro.com)
Philadelphia, USA --- Sunday, February 10, 2002 at 19:16 Universal Time (UT/GMT)

Alois adds: From time to time we receive requests for non-standard astrological techniques, obviously from experienced astrologers (who else would even know to ask for something as strange as 'converse progressions'. Using a vehicle metaphor, this beast corresponds approximately to 'three wheel offroad bicycle powered by natural gas'. The Astro vehicle dealership carries only: regular cars of 17 brands, bikes, motorcycles, 4-wheel trucks, heavy trucks and helicopters.).

Astrodienst's free online service is targeted at a wide audience of lay persons interested in astrology, and at the basic needs of serious astrology students. The purpose of Astrodienst's web services is NOT to fulfill the needs of technically oriented specialists who are interested in this or that obscure astrological method.

The various chart types available at Astrodienst reflect those astrological techniques which have been in use in German speaking countries during after 1980, and they reflect my own interest in astrological studies. I have programmed those types of charts which the customers of Astrodienst's chart services requested and paid for in the 1980ies (before good astrological PC software existed), and in addition those techniques which either interested me personally, or some of my close astrological friends.

We are aware that there exist many other techniques which we do not offer. Among these are 'precession corrected' (should be called precession falsified) calculations, and converse progressions, which are no in use in central Europe. Astrodienst is not expanding its spread of technical charts at this time - we have more important work to do in the interest of a wide audience, not just a few specialists, and nobody would be paying for such complex development.

Please do not be disappointed when the general answer to such requests is simple 'no, we willnot have it'. Sometimes there are some hidden treasures in our rich treasure chest, which I tend to open when I have what is wanted, but many requests are really impossible to fulfill.

There are excellent software programs on the market which fulfill most of the technical needs an experienced astrologer may have, for example Kepler by Cosmic Patterns, and Solar Fire. I highly recommend that experienced astrologers acquire such software for their own PC.

A practical tip after the sermon: You can get converse progressions by doing progressions for a negative age. When you are born 1970, and you do your progressed chart for 1938 (32 years before birth), it is the 'converse progressed chart' of 2002 (32 years after birth).

Our primary directions - which offer excellent choices of technique - contain also converse directions, but the secondary progressions do not. I personally think that secondary progressions which are based on the rule 'one day in the ephemeris corresponds to one year of life' have a built in time arrow and that it makes little sense to turn that around.

Of course this is just my personal humble opinion, and I cannot be the judge of techniques used by others. If there is a single common truth in astrological technique, then it is the motto of my revered teacher Paul Feyerabend: 'Anything goes'.

Alois,
I can see a nunmber of ways that astrology could be used abusively or stupidly. I have always believed that a childs personality arrives with the child and it is a parents job to watch and facilitate the unfolding od what is in fact already there. Astrology provides us with a gimplse of the potiential present from birth and I have sometimes offered parents who are struggling with what to name their child or just to feel that real connection with their newborn baby a copy of your free children and young people.
Fathers and mothers are fascinated by the printout.
I love your new interactive site too.

Just a small point of exasperated amusement. I am a midwife in practice and a couple of times out of interest I have entered data on a baby born in New Zealand within a few hours after the birth. Your computor for reasons I fully understand tells me that I am asking for information on a person as yet unborn! I know that I live in the future as far as a Swiss computor is concerned but am wondering if this can be adjusted to account for the time zone of country of origin.
If you can't I will just have to learn to be more patient but sometimes new born babies are so very interesting one can't help wanting to know a little about them.

It is highly recommended to read the introduction to the report. It tries to answer your question by saying:

In the short edition, only a few, but nevertheless important transits over your natal chart are considered. It is likely however that some important transits of this six month period have been omitted in this sample report.

For a complete listing of transits - without interpretation but with detailed timing information - there is an excellent option:
Free Horoscopes ->
Extended chart selection ->
select group: Astrodienst special ->
select type of chart -> Transit Calendar for 3 years ->
click to view the Acrobat-PDF file.

You need to have Adobe Acrobat reader installed for that file. If you don't have it, you will find a link on the output page to get it from Adobe. You will be surprised about the quality and usefulness of that calendar output. It can be done for any time period you want. It may not be availble for free forever.
