It is some 10 years ago since I first looked at astrology and it is only
recently that I have shown an interest again. Thank you for providing the
site. You must have good intentions towards people to provide free
information. It is much appreciated.
Thank you.

Thank you for this site. I have only a superficial knowledge of astrology
and this site is presented with such clarity that even I can learn from it
and, in fact, am quite stimulated to learn. Somewhere in the last 10 years I
have purchased 3 books by Liz Greene, I suppose suggested to me to do so, and
quite delighted to see her name here. Again, I am quite ignorant, but the
psychology behind her book on Saturn really made sense of astrology to me.
Thanks again. Am using your relocation charts at the moment as at age 63,
and a Taurus, this seems to be the time to put it all together.
My thanks to all of you who work in a daily manner to keep this site current
and comprehensive.
My thanks to all of you who

Dr Alios,
Thank you for taking time to reply. I read and printed the section you
suggested from the Swiss Ephemeris.
(Note: Yes, you are right -Ptolemy lived in the second century AD not BC (my
ignorance). The article I was refering to is at

I'm new at this and still have a long way to go...

If we consider Indian astrology then Rahu & Ketu are important, so in your
charts how is possible for us to identify them. If you can guide me on this
or whether it is possible to have that chart at your site then please let me

Alois adds: This site is NOT about Indian astrology. Rahu is the Mean
lunar north node visibly in many chart types, and ketu, usually not drawn
into the chart, is exactly 180 degrees opposite. There are so many good
programmers in India, I would expect that they get some good Indian astrology
websites together which fulfill the particular needs of the Indian
astrological community.

Dear Dr Alois,
Thank you for your great generosity – this is a magnificent site!!!
Why do western astrologers still use geocentric tropical zodiac if it is
about 23 deg. off compared to the geocentric sidereal zodiac?
You must know this already - I read in a website that Ptolemy developed the
“tropical measurement method” during few hundred years before the birth of
Christ when the Sun was very close to the first degrees of Aries on the first
day of Spring – however due to “the precession of the equinoxes” – the
location of the Sun on the first day of Spring changes over a long period of
time and it is today 23 degrees away from the 1st degrees of Aries.
How come this method still give very good psychological interpretation of the
chart though – is there any theory behind this?
caroline francis [ nospamtm.net.my ]
Penang, Malaysia --- Sunday, April 30, 2000 at 06:17 Universal Time (UT/GMT)
Alois adds: Most of your question is answered in http://www.astro.com/ but this article is in German, I am afraid. Ptolemy lived in
the second century AD,
not BC, by the way.
The tropical ecliptic coordinate system starts
at the vernal equinox, and what we call Sun signs are 30 degree sections
of the annular solar path, reflecting the rhythm of the solar system.
That the fixed star constellations which once gave the names to those
sections are not anymore were they used to be when the ecliptic sections
were named, is too bad, and a source of confusion for many. From the
tropical point of view, which measures from the vernal equinox which
undergoes precession, the SIDEREALIST are the ones who ignore the precession
of the equinoxes and stick to something which was true 2000 years ago
but is not any longer. Mainstream astrology is about the solar system and its rhythms
of movement, and NOT about fixed stars.
The fundamental error of the siderealists is that they try to use a measuring stick from FAR
OUTSIDE the solar system, to measure the movement of the planets, instead
of using the IMBEDDED MEASURE from within the solar system, represented
by the annual circle of the Sun (as perceived from earth), the basic
drum beat of the music of the solar system.
If you want to read more about some fundamental problems of the sidereal
zodiac, visit the Swiss ephemeris section and read section 2.7 of the document
under the link 'Full documentation'. Most siderealists do not really know
what they are doing, in my opinion.
I am very worried about the coming Jupiter/Saturn conjunction in Taurus and
have not found a discussion-place in your site. Where can I go ? I also think
yours is the best as astrology site. In fact I have been reading Liz Greene
and Robert Hand (as well as Arroyo) since 1980. I simply love their
approach.

I would like to ask some questions about the four big asteriods: Ceres, Juno;
Pallas & Vesta; which i include in the charts i make in my old kepler
program.
a) Which would you consider the key words for these celestial bodies to be
defined?
I have been trying to study them as much as have been posible with my very
limited means, but unfortunatedly the concepts than embodies these celestial
objects have been persistently eluding me.
b) Which would you say to be the key words to define the transneptunians:
Cupido,Hades,Zeus, Kronos, Apollo, Admetus (specially this one), Vulcano &
Poseidon?
I have a good idea about the mythological meanings of the greek & roman gods
and godesses, because i have been a pasionate student of this mithology, and
a heavy reader of the classics, even fronm my teenage youth; but the
astrological meanings of these bodies still keeps on evadin me.
I am an autodidact student of astrology, nine years now, and i'm reading your
great book about Neptune at the present, Madam Liz.
Besides, i would like to tell you i think i have discovered some practical
meanning to the intercepted houses, something i have not found in books, but
by practicing with charts. It seems to me, at the present, that houses are
intercepted in natal charts of people which are none desired children (non
desires, of course to the father), which makes these peoples lives quite more
difficult, but more brigth when they can overcome this factor, asumming it
consciously.
Lives of people with intercepted houses in their natal charts are not as
"happy" as peoples lives charts without this factor, but they are more
"spiritually growing" lives.
Any how, the special interes about intercepted houses in natal charts aroused
in me by my own natal chart.
Do you think Madam, this hipotesis can be sustained, by your own practice?
I'll be very glad to get in touch by e-mail with you, Miss Green, because i
do admire you a grat deal, and because i haven't been able to have a direct
teacher on astrology but only books.

I think it would be beneficial to all (at least those like me who are new to
astrology) to have the option of searching through charts of around about the
same time to see where the planets change signs. I am unsure of my exact
birth time (somewhere between 2 and 4 am May 13 1981 Dublin Ireland) and
would like to know if they change somewhere in there so that i can find an
accurate birth chart. If there are others like me a 'scrolling through
possible charts' option may be helpful.

Alois adds: I do not know what you mean by 'scrolling through charts'. You
can vary the time you enter, and display all the various charts for
various times as you like.
You are well advised however to contact the birth registry office in Dublin.
They do have your birth time on record. You must request a copy of the birth
registry information, including the birth time. It is much better to get
the time from the source, instead of speculating about it.
Does anyone know a resource on the meaning of the lesser asteroids, Salome

I have an important question. Two of my friends are twins and they're totally
different although ther're born one minute from eachother and that means that
they have the same chart-drawing.Is they're anything that could explain why
they are so different. Please answear.
carole
--- Friday, April 28, 2000 at 18:32 Universal Time (UT/GMT)
Alois adds: The simple answer is, that twins divide the chart up. Each horoscope contains several themes, archetypal figures, inner contradictions, however
you want to call it. A non-twin will make this out inside one personality,
choose to live some of these issues and keep the others in the background.
During a lifetime, there will be often development that formerly unconscious
issues become expressed. You choose, when you want to develop the various
roles which are there in the beginning of the play called 'your life'.
For twins, this is different, they divide the chart up early in life. If they
life together, they cannot both act the same role in the play, but are forced
to choose different roles. Often, the 'alpha twin' is stronger and makes
his/her choice, leaving the rest for the other. This division can
change in the course of a lifetime.
There are cases where identical twins are brought up to be really identical,
by parents who find this so cute. I think it is psychologically very unhealthy
to force children into this game. In twin research, there are those
striking cases of separated twins who have devloped so similar lives. This
is no surprise when one thinks along the lines I have described. If the
twins grow up separated, the other does not occupy the roles they would like
to express. Both can play the same roles, as indicated in their identical
horoscopes, because the other is not in their way.
I know a bit what I am talking about, having twin siblings, and twin daughters.
It is an issue which has interested me from the beginning, when I started
with astrology.
Liz Greene writes in a special paragraph for the Child's Horoscope, the
really excellent computerized report available at Astrodienst:
The horoscope of a twin boy or girl
This child is one of a pair of twins. He|She shares with the other twin
an almost identical birth horoscope.
But any parent of twins will recognise that
each has his or her own distinctive personality.
Twins, sharing many personality
characteristics, often try especially hard to define their own
psychological territory, and often they do this by a kind of "division"
of the birth chart. One twin will appropriate certain features of the
horoscope while the other twin will appropriate the rest. Twins
tend to polarise. In their need to assert a separate individuality
they may both unconsciously avoid sharing qualities which they
fear will make them too like the other. The perceptive parent may
observe that in early childhood twins periodically exchange roles,
each one trying out personality traits which the other was
displaying a little while earlier. The polarising process sets in a
little later on. As they grow older and develop separate lives twins
usually find it easier to own and express those qualities they "gave
away" to the other twin in early life. And the unique spark of
individuality within will always ensure that, even if they look alike,
they will remain distinct individuals with a unique journey through
life.
[PS: Of course our computer cannot know whther a chart is a chart of a twin.
Only when this is indicated by the person ordering the reports, the
'twin paragraph' is turned on by our order processing staff.]
[PS: When you want to order reports for twins, we offer the second

reduced price of 20% of the regular price, if ordered at the same time]

Hi!Thank you for this wonderful site!I have a doubt,I would like to know
which is the difference between synastry chart and Davison Relationship chart?
Shuyin [ tea_nospamyahoo.com ]
--- Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at 00:51 Universal Time (UT/GMT)
Alois adds: In synastry, you take two charts and look which aspects the planets
make between the two, and into which houses your planets fall in the partner's
chart. It is a two-chart-drawing.
The Davison Relationship chart tries to create a single chart out of both,
by taking the midpoint in time and space between the two birthdata.
This is interpreted as the chart of the special "beeing" called "your relationship".

Malinda [ nospamtrivergent.com ]
--- Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at 20:43 Universal Time (UT/GMT)
Alois adds: No, you have one distinct Sun sign, and you find easily out by running
your chart data through our horoscope page. You wil need to know the year, time
and place for this. Mood swings can have many origins, and the Sun sign is
a rather unlikely cause.
Liz Greene's book, "The Outer Planets and Their Cycles" was so remarkably
accurate and
enlightening as regards the significance of transiting planetary alignments
and their impact on individual countries' charts, I wonder if she
has published anything on the current alignments in the fixed signs of
Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius? If so, where might I find it? Many

Alois adds: right click on the image, use 'save as' to save to a local GIF file,
and then open with an image processing software of your choice, to print.
For some reasons Microsoft and Netscape have to answer for, image
printing directly out of the browser is lousy, as it allow no control
over printer resolution and image size on paper. Browsers print with
a ridiculous 72 dpi resolution, while your printer probably could
support MUCH higher resolution.
The very best printing results you will get if you run your charts with
the 'oversize 150%' option, and then save, and print out of your local
image processing software. If you don't have any, get the shareware
LviewPro at www.lview.com which does an excellent printing job, fitting oversized
images very well into your paper size on the printer.

I would really like to order my personal psychological analysis. But I
already did this a while back and it really did not give me anything. I need
the aspects mentioned and in which way they affect the things I do and the

Do I have to pay a supplementary for this or is this included in the analysis?
Rita [ Rnospamweb.de ]

Alois adds: The reading in the Psychological Horoscope Analysis is based on a rather holistic view of the chart. Contrary to most 'computer horoscopes'
it does not simply consist of a sequence of aspect, sign or house placement
paragraphs. Therefore no single aspects can be mentioned for each bit of text.
If the reading was not helpful to you, I am sorry. I do however not
quite understand from your message whether you did order it or only would like to. If you are not sure about what you can expect to get: There are complete
samples in the 'samples' area which can be easily accessed from the main page,

sydney, australia --- Sunday, April 23, 2000 at 02:51 Universal Time (UT/GMT)
Alois adds: The images were created by the German artist Gerda Maier Kren
especially for this project. She did about 600 little collages and drawings,
or drew with black ink over collages. We made the assignment of images to transit themes,
which is not completely fixed but contains a certain degree of randomness.
Originally the project was for the printed report 'Personal Horoscope
Calendar' which later became the basis for the online daily horoscope.
We scanned the black ink drawings and dithered them, so they would
print well on a 300 dpi laser printer. For web usage, we changed the pixel
color from black to the more visually appealing brown you see now.
A simple transformation with the pbm-tools was made.
We would be happy to get some new artistic contributions, particularily
for other reports and in combination with new services we are
developing. In most cases it is good to have LARGE numbers of illustrations
which evoke associations, and correlate them by some non fully trivial
model with astrological content.
Of particular interest would be
- illustrations for Liz Greene's Psychological Horoscope Analysis, where the text evokes many associations with Jungian archetypes. Also cool, detached caricatures might go well with the material.
- illustrations for basic text material (planets in signs, houses, aspect)
- funny, slightly erotical illustrations for 'Planets in Love', again
specified by planets in signs, houses and aspect to each other.
If you have a website, maybe I can look at your work there.
Please don't email large files without being invited to, or you will

If you are asking for advice about a good choice of birth time: we don't
give this kind of advice. I think attempts to choose the birth time
by human intervention will easily backfire. Each charts has its difficult
elements, and they need to be placed somewhere. In my opinion, the child

If a planned intervention is necessary, let 'the powers of the world'
decide about the schedule, don't try to take the responsibility on yourself.

Astrologers who read this, I appreciate your insight. Feel freedom to email
me about...
I have a few questions about the potential personal influences of the May 3
Planetary alignment; it's suggested that the houses with Taurus and Aquarius
might be the areas of my life that are most afffected (my 12th house is
"ruled" by taurus with saturn 6deg 49min and mars 9deg,44min);(aquarius
"rules" my 9th house, and 7 deg of the 10th house. my MC is in the 9th house
and there is solar arc: neptune 3deg to 6deg and 6deg to 8deg; also solar arc
in the same house of 16deg to 20deg and 20deg to 24deg uranus) what
influences might I expect to be able to utilize for myself? (solar arc term
is totally new for me)Also, the suggestion that the jupiter-saturn
conjunction marks possibilities for formation of my sense of social purpose,
my question: how does May 3, 2000 alignment and my jupiter in 6th house
opposite saturn in 12th house (-2 S) speak to a new occupation, commitment of
social purpose, new goals for social activity and achievement?
Your comments and helpfulness is appreciated

~Dry your tears, raise your heads as flowers hold up their stems at the
coming of the dawn. Hold your breath, and listen with me for a moment to the
rustle of white wings.
Bury me among lilies and jasmine. Do not weep for me but sing a song of
youth and joy…Do not disturb the peace of the ether with funeral orations but
let your heart sing praises with me for the afterlife and for eternity.
Do not wear black at my funeral, but white, as at a betrothal.
Do not speak of my departure with tears in your voices - rather, close your
eyes and you will see me among you today and tomorrow.
With soft steps take me to a verdant cradle in the distant countryside. Cover
me with handfuls of earth and with iris, jasmine and wild rose seeds. They
will germinate on my grave and breathe in the elements of my body. And so
they will grow, wafting through the air my heart’s perfume, and showing to
the sun the secrets of my hands; and they will bend with the breeze,
recalling to the passer-by my dreams and inclinations of bygone days…
Here I am at the top of a mountain, my spirit drifting through the space of
freedom…I am far away..I hear only the hymns of eternity accompanying my
spirits journey.~

cups of narcissus flowers~
~And what is it to cease breathing but to free the breath from its restless
tides,
that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
The veil that clouds your eyes shall be lifted by the hand that wove it,
And the clay that fills your ears shall be pierced by those fingers that
kneaded it
And you shall see
And you shall hear
For in that day you shall know the hidden purposes in all things~

Alois adds: You only have to set a bookmark. Use the new data entry form, and
when you are through with data entry and the link to the daily horoscope
appears together with a list of other buttons, read what is written further
down on the page.
It tells you to set a bookmark there.
IAlois speaking: I just added a new feature to the birth data entry form.
Often one wants a chart for 'now' at some point of the world. While the old
atlas entry brought up the 'now' date and time as default data, the new data
entry form had no such feature.
I wanted to avoid an additional checkbox in the data entry form, as it is complicated already.
Therefore I made the new feature a hidden feature. When one leaves the field
for the first name empty, and writes 'now' or 'jetzt' into the field for the
last name, and selects a place,
then the chart for 'now' at that place will be made. Usually one will leave
the date and time fields empty, because they are filled automatically with
the correct date and time which exists NOW at that place.
The timezone map feature will automatically be turned on if you use the 'now'
feature.
Have fun, and those who use this feature.
The addition of this is a first step which will end with replacing most of
the old atalas entry with a new, visually more pleasing layout along the new
design of our web pages.
The old atlas access will remain but it will flow together with the new data
entry form, i.e. after selecting a place in the atlas hit list, the visitor
will land in the new data entry form with the 'now' feature activated.

Hello!
Astrology is, in my vision, a subject that needs a lot of patience and hard
work. I have been studying this for about 5 years and every day I learn more
about it, I find more questions than answers; it scares me, sometimes little
because I want to trust, but sometimes much, because I am afraid what people
might do with all this knowledge. I would really like to know from you: Is
there any organisation that asks questions about the ethical side of giving
and gaining information about astrology, like for example a group of people
that gives a proffessional code (Sorry, I´m also not sure if i use the right
words in English!)?
Apart from that, i have read several books from Robert Hand and my personal
opinion is, that he understands his job very well, so i do trust him and the
people he works with.
Maybe in a time a have more money to spend, i will order some personal
horoscopes of your company.

Alois adds: The ONE AND ONLY place for a horoscope is the birth place.
Transits (which are the basis of the daily personal horoscope) do not
depend on where you live.
You cannot change your horoscope by moving somewhere else. Look at it
like other things you inherit. Do do not get different genes,
by moving somewhere else once you are born. You have the genetic and
astrological outfit you are born with, and must work with and develop
what you got.
If you want the clock time printed for the transits expressed in
another timezone than in the timezone of the birth place (though
it does not really matter in which timezone the information is printed),
you can use the 'location' part of the data entry form.

I have a question about a chart that was
calculated by your online service at Astodienst. I am wondering if you can
tell me the time zone that is being used to calculate a particular chart?
The time in question is for August 19, 1954 Paris, Ky at 12:37 am. I have
anecdotal information that says Paris, KY was using EDT at the time of my
birth. I have gotten opinions from 2 professional astrologers and have
gotten 2 different charts for the same time zone. So I am trying to figure
out the correct chart for myself. Is EDT what your service uses to calculate
the chart for that particular time when entered into the computer? If so I
would greatly appreciate knowing how you came to use that information... what
would be your "official" resource that says that Paris, KY is indeed in the
EDT during the above mentioned DOB? I hope this is clear to you. And I
really do appreciate your help on this matter. PS: I have contacted the
local records in Paris, KY and they say that they don't know the official
time used in 1954. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and keep
up the good work. I do enjoy the charts even though I don't know which one
to believe at the moment :-0
Thank you in advance

Alois adds: Each chart we produce carries on the top the time which
was used. It shows the clock time, and below the UT/GMT (Universal time).
By taking the difference you see immediately which timezone was used.
EDT would be a difference of 4 hours, i.e. GMT must be 4 hours more than
the local clock time.
Paris, KY was on Central Daylight time on August 19, 1954. It went from
Central time to Eastern time April 3 1960. This is why you are confused.
Many astrologers out there make errors and use false charts, which is a
sad fact.
In our software you must always enter what we call 'wall time', i.e. the time shown
by a clock on the wall of the birth room. All necessary corrections
for daylight time, timezone, war time etc are made automatically
and reliably by our software. NEVER make such corrections yourself.
What an amazing site..it's got everything!

Alois adds: To look up Philadelphia, PA in our online horoscope server is
easy enough. It does however not contain an entry for this hospital,
just for the city center.
Do you need to be more precise? High precision in the location
of a chart makes only sense, if
you also have high precision in the birth time.
The relationship between both, uncertainty in time and uncertainty in
location is roughly like this: When the birth time is uncertain by plus/minus
1 minute of time, i.e. you are born between 11:29:00 and 11:30:59, then
the uncertainty in the location can be plus/minus 15 arcminutes of
longitude or latitude. This corresponds roughly to an uncertainty of
15 km or 10 miles.
Very few birth times are known with a precision better than plus/minus
one minute. For all others it is good enough to take a location within
a distance of 10 miles. You do not really need the hospital's
precise coordinates, the city center of Philadelphia serves you fine
enough.
Hey this is a really good site! I love it! I finally found my moon sign. Well
keep up the good work!

Alois adds: I know that people can go far in life with 'speak first, think later'.
When I enter 'trenton', without specifying a country, I get as an output the reply: please select a place from the list of 40 hits.
Trenton, Ontario is rather far down in the list.
When I do the same, but preselect Canada as the country, I get the reply:
Please select a place from the list of two hits.
In both cases the understanding of the concept of pulldown lists is required. I am sorry if this is too much asked. Our CGI ist really challenging.
I am interested in ordering material, but I don't want to give my credit
card number over the net. If you could mail me an order form, we could do
business. My address is 208 N. Palm Blvd., Niceville, Florida, USA, 32578.
Thank You.

Alois adds: You don't have to. You can use the Online Shop, and when you get to
the payment section you will find that it is acceptable to enter 'by fax' into the credit card number field. Then you can fax or phone this info in.
You can also print out the screen just before the final confirmation of the
order (which is clear and distinct step) and mail this in as a printed
order, adding your credit card details manually so that they never go over
the network. You do however have to reveal your credit card details to us,
as to any other shop or restaurant where you pay with it.
Finally, you can use Adobe Acrobat to view the 'report catalogue'
linked on our main page, lower right area. It contains a really printable
order form in the old style from before the online shop. Print it out and
use it.

I needed a special chart with a unique location in the middle of the ocean.
These folks made changes just so we could get it for our astro group (we're
on yahoo clubs - look for us).
Many thanks to Astrodienst. They are great.

First of all, thanks for this great site.
I go to the daily horoscope everyday. the only thing I am not sure about is
that quite often after the heading for the day, e.g. Disorientation, there
are some * next to the word/phrase. (sometimes there is none, but also can
have two or three). I wonder what they mean, and would love to hear from you
about their significance.
Thanks again!

Alois adds: The printed version of the daily horoscopes, the Personal Horoscope Calendar, contains your personal horoscopes for 365 days, In addition, there
are several pages of explanation, tables and an index.
You can look at the Online sample printout and read the explanations there.
You will find that the * besides the title indicate the relative
importance of a transit. Only long-term transits will earn such star marks,
not the short ones.
The explanation text refers to the printed version of the Calendar.
The online pages have a slightly different format, but you will
easily work out the differences yourself.
Hello !
I have ordered some items from Astro Shop last month. They were good and
successfull in my point of view.
So, this March, I ordered something new and when it arrived to my address I
was very much dissappointed. Because, what I ordered was "Horoscope For Two"
and what I had was "Horoscope For Two For Someone Else" since you did not use
my original birthday date.
I simply cannot make use use of what you sent me because you used wrong
dates.
Here is some data about my order :

All comments made on wrong date in the documentation, so the base and the

Therefore, I would really appreciate if you can review the orders and find

I love your site. It's extremely broad and useful. I am having trouble,
however printing out a single 81/2 x 11 page which contains all the
information.
Even when I reduce the page to 93%, I still get the bottom half of the aspect
chart cut off and continuing onto page 2.
If I reduce to 75 or 63%, the type becomes illegible.
What can I do?
