Hello Alois - thanks for your generous and amazing site.
I have been puzzled by the 2 composite charts you offer as they seem to give
different ascendants with the same data. If I put in my Bday with someone
else's and the location where we currently live the results for the midpoints
plus natals composite chart is quite different from the plain Composite
chart. Could you explain please why the ascendant works out different ?
Thanks a lot.

The website is very advanced and it is impressive to see how quickly a chart
is delivered.
There is a question or request that the input is more specified and beside
hours and minutes, the seconds can be part of the calculation. This is
important because within 60 seconds certain constellations will be different
!
Would this be possible? It seems to me that such an addition won't require
much reprogramming.
With respect,

Alois adds: Thanks for the question. We are aware of this problem and the
feature is already there, though not visible.
When you enter a four-digit number in the minute field, the last two digits
will be interpreted as seconds. You can also use the format 23:45 for 23
minutes and 45 seconds. In fact, you can even add fractions to the seconds,
e.g. 23:45.53 for 45.53 seconds. The precision allowed is 1/100 of a second.
We would not be Astrodienst Switzerland, if we would not provide precision

Just a couple of questions. I have bought Robert Hands book on Planets in
Transit and have found it most useful. I was wondering where you get the
interpretations for transits involving Chiron from, and where I might be able
to get hold of them. Also, yesterday Jupiter passed over my natal Chiron but
the corresponding interpretation did not appear in the Daily Horoscope
section. Is this an error? Thank you so much for your help and for this
excellent service.

Welche "Richtung" gilt bei transistierenden Planeten? Werden die Transite nur
entgegen dem Uhrzeigersinn gewertet?
petra
--- Monday, January 31, 2000 at 07:51 Universal Time (UT/GMT)
Alois adds: Gute Frage.
beim ersten Eintritt.

Hello. You have a beautiful chart here, but when it prints, either full

One last suggestion--When clicking on the Location page (from the new Birth Data Entry page), a page pops up asking whether or not we want to use our birth place as the location. But once you continue on, the exact same question pops up on the next page, except that on the second page you can also enter the info for a new location. The first location page seems superfluous, and for those of us with slow computers, interminably unnecessary. Is it possible to just use the second page? That way, those who wish to use their birthplace for location can leave the box checked and be on their merry way, but the rest of us have one less step to go through....
Thanks again for your wonderful hard work and prompt responses.

Germantown, MD, USA --- Thursday, January 27, 2000 at 19:56 Swiss time
Alois adds: Many thanks for the comment and your thoughts. We have considered
this carefully in our design. For most visitors, it makes sense to use
the default setting, i.e. use the birth town as reference location.
The purpose of the reference location is very limited. Most people do
only natal charts, where it has no importance whatsoever. Or they look
at their daily personal horoscope, where the only effect the reference
location makes is that the clock times of the daily transits are expressed
in the timezone of the reference location instead of the timezone of the
birth place. This matters not at all for people living in the same
timezone as they were born in, which is the vast majority of the world
population. For the relatively few others, it does also not matter much,
because all important transits have a duration of several days to several
months, and the exact clock time of the transit hardly makes a difference.
There are cases when you really need the reference location, e.g. for
Solar and Lunar return charts, and for relocation charts. Only a small
minority of expert users does look at those.
Finally there is another speed-argument: To offer a location entry,
our web page must contain the country selection pulldown. This has over
300 entries, contributing more than 12 kbytes to the page size.
This slows down page loading, and therefore we offer this list only to those
few users who do not want to use the birth place. Only those need
to pay the price of loading the location page twice.
I have this site bookmarked on every single computer I use on a regular basis, and check the site several times a day. Since I first discovered the site nearly four years ago, I have recommended the site to well over a hundred people, and they've all been as impressed with it as I am. I love the new American server--the download time has improved *immensely*. I've finally started exploring the extensive asteroid listing (who knew there were this many??) and was hoping there would be more info on them in the Astro Dictionary, but I've only been able to find definitions for Ceres, Juno, Pallas Athena, Chiron the comet, and Vesta. Come to think of it, I've had a lot of trouble finding terms in the Astro Dictionary. Will it be upgraded soon? Or am I going about looking for terms incorrectly?
Thanks again and again and again for the wonderful site--my day would be incomplete without it! Keep up the good work!

Alois adds: Offering a real 'astrological knowledge base' instead of
the current very technically oriented 'Astro dictionary' has a high
priority in our plans for the development of our website. Obviously
a lot of content has to be written, acquired, edited, organized
and translated. Most authors, editors and translators do not work for free.
Therefore the development of this very desirable feature takes longer
than one might wish.
If someone can contribute a good
astrological encyclopedia to our site - without violating copyright laws,
obviously - this would be VERY WELCOME.

This is truely a labor of love because you have done this freely.
May God bless you in numerous ways: May your investment yield many blessings many times over. May untold cash rewards and opportunites FIND YOU. May your innermost desires and dreams be realized in the people who visit this site and through your own hopes, wishes, and struggles (for without struggle there can be no progress), and may the Ancient of Days cause His light and his peace to have a permanent place in you.

Transits for Leo Moon always affest me more than Cancer Moon transits. how accurate is a birth certificate as far as your time of birth goes anyway? i've heard sometimes they round up or down, mine says 10:15, i've read a roud number like that is usually rounded up or down. also, i think i have aries ascendant instead of taurus, it is much more me.

My question is, if one moves away from place of

we are living now? Do we deduct the hours of the
timezone to our birth time? Do we leave the birth

It would mean that the ascendant should be different than our place of birth.

As I looked into my current transits today(sunday 23 Jan. 2000) I saw that Venus enters the 12th house. But according to the chart Venus exits the 12th house and almost enters the first house. The position of Venus today is about 28 degrees Sagittarius. The chart is correct.
Please respond.

Alois adds: Such a message should be sent as email to nospamastro.ch, not
entered into the guestbook. You need to give complete birth data with all
error reports, as we need to reproduce a problem before we can act on it.
For confidentiality, you will usually not want to post your birth data in a public guestbook.
Please also indicate on which server you were running into the problem.
Astrodienst maintains three independent web servers, and while they should
contain the same content and react in the same way, this is not always true.
The best is to copy the complete URL from your browser window into
the email message.
Later: you did not read carefully. The 'timing text' which appears when you read the text for Venus enters the 12th house says this applies form
12 January to 25 January. Between these two dates the transiting Venus did
go through your 12th house.
Your generosity in providing free online personal daily forecasts is astounding and I deeply appreciate it. They're very thorough and quite accurate.

What a wonderful site. Thank you so much. I have a brief understanding of Astrology and my son bought me a new computer for Christmas. My biggest disappointment was that my old computer only had the old 5 1/4 disks and my programme for Astrology was therefore obsolete.

I am very impressed with this updated version!I am an amateur astrologer and having been studying for a number of years. This program just blew me away. I'm especially impressed with the access to all of the asteriods, true nodes, aspect lines, heliocentric charts, and more! I was finally able to see that I have a grand trine in my chart.I am also very impressed with the transits : interpretations and the length of the transits. That also makes this a top-notch site! I was adopted when I was 3. A fictitious birth certificate was obtained by my adoptive parents. The date could be reliable. However, there is no birth time. I have 2 questions, please. First, is it possible to look at someone's life experiences & tendencies thus far and use that as a model to point to a likely time, or even a likely date and time? Secondly, in lieu of such a 'model', is there a 'default time' astrologers use when birth time is unknown and how big a variance could this represent? Thank you.
Patti [ nospamaol.com ]
Tampa, USA --- Saturday, January 22, 2000 at 18:23 Swiss time
Alois adds: I am afraid all of Astrodienst's astrological offerings are focused
on people who know their birth time.
There are astrologers who read charts with unknown birth time, and they
use several approaches:
- birth time 12 noon, ignore houses
- birth time at Sun rise, take these 'solar houses' into account
- birth time so that Ascendant is 0° Aries, take these 'house=sign houses'
into account.
Your site has the best astrological birth charts, and a deep indept look into the complex world of astrology. You people ae astrological geniuses and the "astro computer"proves it.It is to bad that some people still actually believe astrology to be a superstition and are very skeptical about it,astrology is a powerful tol for virtually any aspect of life.Thanx for the site.

I am not trying to sound worried or apocalyptic, however, in an old Nostradamus video I saw the end of the world was supposed to be around May 5, 2000 when all the planets were supposed to align. What I found was that it was May 3 7am est. that most major planets were aligned in Taurus.
I would like an educated scientific analysis of what this alignment of the planets could mean to the gravitational pull aspects or any other scientific aspects related to our planet Earth, especially if we need to be prepared.
Best Regards

Coconut Creek, USA --- Saturday, January 22, 2000 at 08:30 Swiss time
Alois adds: Many people are attracted by desasters, and the media love to
play with your fears. The world has recently gone under several times,
e.g. on August 11 1999 at that terrible solar eclipse, then of course
on the last New Years's eve, and it will put on the same show in coming May.
In plain words: nothing unusual will happen. Some planes will
crash in May, some floods and storms will make it into the news, maybe the
earth will shake somewhere, somewhere a war might break out.
Same as in every other May of any year.
Lots of Nostradamus books and magazines will be sold.
Lopsided planetary configurations like the one in May 2000 happen every
few years. On the level of physics and gravitation, the effects are
totally neglegible. On a symbolic level, persons born with such a lopsided
chart and so many planets in Taurus will have to face some special
issues in life, mainly to do with territorial needs and fears.
They will have to watch their diet carefully (Sun conjunct Jupiter).
Pluto, Neptune and Uranus are not taking part in the Taurus constellation,
they are in different parts of the zodiac at that date. The Taurus stellium
happens only in the geocentric perspective; when you look at the solar
system in the heliocentric view, it looks much more balanced on that date.
Thank you so very much for this wonderful site. I am just learning about astrology,(other than the newspaper generic variety). This site is very helpful, and looking at the feedback, I found the answer to the question I was going to ask, which was about living in a different area than where you were born. Only one thing I can ask, if your online order site was secure, then I know I would love to order online. Thank you, again.

This guestbook is mostly a feedback area for those satisfied or dissatisfied
with Astrodienst's service.
I took however the time to answer your question below.
I put in my data - 5/15/44 10:15 am edt/ewt and even though you are using Pacidus, the ascendent and mid-heaven in the chart produced here, does not agree with doing it manually with the book of houses, or with the solar fire software, or with Astro Natal Report.. The ascendent should be 29 cancer and MC is about 14 aires, where here the chart has the ascendent as 14 cancer and the MC is in Pisces. The longitude and latitude is correct for New York, New York.. and 10:15 am is 9:15 am est. just the angles are not the same... Any Ideas????
Sarah Gannon [ Sarah GnospamPepsi.com ]

Alois adds: When you enter 15 May 1944, 10.15 am, Newy York, NY, then you get
the (correct) 29 Cancer Ascendant at Astrodienst's website.
What you seem to do WRONG: you make manual time adjustments. You should NEVER
do this with our site, as it takes care of timezone, war time and daylight
savings time automatically. You must enter the time as a clock on the wall has
shown it. NOTHING ELSE.
It is a rare and pleasant find to discover such

I continue to frequently enjoy this site, especially the daily horoscopes. My question is, on the 'progressed chart' option, does 'progressed' indicate more where one is now in life than the natal chart? Ie: Have we matured into this. Also the Daily Horoscope is fascinating, but before I would order it, I have one question: as I am Australian-born, the daily horoscope gives all the transit times in local Australian time. However, I live in Switzerland and would prefer to have the transits worked out using Swiss time.
Does this in fact happen in the printed version of the Daily Horoscope?
Regards and keep up the good work!

Alois adds: The charting software we use is our own in-house software which
is used to create the chart drawing Astrodienst sells. This software is
not written for PCs and has no user interface to make it useable on PCs, it
can only be used in a server environment.
I personally believe that using online application services will replace
most of the software currently used on local PCs, and we are working hard
to make this a reality for astrological software. Online applications are free
and need no installation and maintenance on the side of the users.
For the reference timezone in the daily horoscope: Online you should use
the new data entry form. There is a 'location' form which allows you to
set the refeence location. When you set it to any place in Switzerland,
the local time at this place wil be used to give the timing information for
the daily transit.
For orders of the printed edition, we use automatically MET (central
european time) for orders in German, and the time at the customers
mailing address for orders in other languages.
i am looking for software that does synastry. Can you help recommend such software. thank you

Alois, thankyou for providing this excellent site.
This question refers to the premise of astrology.
I understand how the zodiac applies to the Northern hemisphere if the abstract tropical system is applied, rather than the Sidereal. After all, the constellations, with the exception of the Scorpion, bear little resemblance to their names. Aries is considered the first sign because it marks the beginning of Spring north of the equator, and is therefore cardinal fire. Pisces is the last sign, mutable water, and therefore considered the most spiritual. It sounds very logical.
Nearly every astrological book I have read(most written in the North) correlates the seasons with the zodiac signs, conveniently ignoring the relevance of this analogy for those south of the equator. Rhudyar, for example, argues that because our current world civilisation has its roots in North temperate zones Western astrology is applicable everywhere. This strikes me as ethnocentric and does not address the problem. An Australian astologer has suggested that the seasons are but an outer symbol for the zodiac cycle. Do you have any explanation of how the signs could apply to those born at the equator or those south of the equator?
James Greaves [ nospamhotmail.com ]
Sydney, Australia --- Wednesday, January 12, 2000 at 03:21 Swiss time
Alois adds: All astrologers working in the southern hemisphere I have met - and
they are many, from Argentina, southern Africa, Australia and New Zealand -
work with the normal tropical (or partly with the sidereal) zodiac
as the rest of he world, on a day to day routine reading their clients
charts. It seems to work, that is all that I can say.
Some 'northern' astrologers use the symbolism of the seasons in
moderate northern latitudes to teach the meaning of the zodiac. This is there
choice, though the historical origin of the zodiac is in the middle east
where those seasons do not really apply. There are many valid ways to
explore and explain the rhythms inherent in the zodiac, and it is
certainly legitimate to use metaphors from a local culture for local
teaching. I am not aware that anyone claims exclusive validity for the
seasonal metaphor.
THIS IS FASCINATING STUFF, THE VEDIC CHARTS ARE MUCH MORE INTERESTING THAN THE WESTERN ONES.
EBERTIN RULES.
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.

Sidereal time 5hr 34' 23" Asc. 25 Virgo 29' 59"
on the seperate charts BUT
THIS WAS THE SAME DAY IN ENGLAND (as it then was) FOR THIS WAS THE DAY AUTHORITIES DECIDED TO ADJUST THE CALENDER FROM THE JULIAN TO THE GREGORIAN.
And it was the same day astronoically - what the astronomers call the Julian Day. I am confused.

A Vivian [ nospamyahoo.com ]
, New Zealand --- Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at 23:08 Swiss time
Alois adds: NO NEED TO SHOUT.
14 September is the date expressed in the Gregorian Calendar
which we use by default. If you want the date interpreted as given in the
Julian Calendar, you must add a 'jul' after the year's number.
We chose not to convert calendars automatically because many historical
dates originally in the Julian Calendar period (which varies from country
to country) have been translated in history books into Gregorian Calendar
dates. You cannot rely on the fact that all historical dates quoted
before 1752 will be in Julian Calendar. A system which assumes this
automatically would often be incorrect.
We expect that users who do historical charts also know about
the calendar problem, and exercise control by themselves. Before 1700
our system automatically appends 'greg' after the year to indicated which
calendar was assumed. As I said, you override this by adding 'jul' yourself.
England was exceptionally late within Europe to adopt the new calendar,
much countries did it much earlier, except Russia of course which took until
1918.
I would like to say congratulation for your site. It is great to saw with precision our day or our futur like you describe.
I wish that some day the site can be in french

Happy New Year!
The new day-of-year feature to begin a cycle to a yearly progression or transit chart makes the options which one can use all the more generous and now really approaches infinite! The lunar return and opposition charts will be very interesting to now mull over~
A "little more gravy" would be to see one day a feature for the inner planets' transits for the day and outer planet progressions for the year perhaps to be included within the optional yearly "natal chart, progressions, and transits" superimpositional option. In this way, one could have on one page a truly precise "blue-print" of sorts for a year to come, beginning with any day of any year.
Is there any hubbub yet, about where one could access or discuss the best information about the Aquarian Age, multiple conjunctions in Taurus, and Jupiter/Saturn conjunction, all (?) occurring over this May? Does anybody out there know? I cannot find anything, yet; however, the book on the Jupiter/Saturn lectures of 1981 by Liz Greene and Stephen Arroyo has been quite useful. As a student of astrology, I am trying to build into an otherwise personal excitement--the J/S conjunction will conjunct my natal Venus=

I'm so happy to have been directed to your site and the wonderful charts I can now print off for my friends and study them in depth to the best of my ability. One thing I have been wondering, perhaps you could clarify this for me, I live in Saskatchewan, Canada and here we never change our clocks in Summertime ie: there is no daylight savings time. There have however, been years when we have used daylight savings time, eg: during the war years I think and the odd year when we have experimented with going back to being the same as the rest of Canada. Have you been able to make allowances for this fact when the software calculates the rising signs for persons born in Saskatchewan? I wasn't born here, so it does not affect me personally, however, most of my friends were born here and I'd like to be sure that their rising signs are calculated properly. Many thanks indeed for creating such a useful tool for very amateur astrologers like me!

which options did you enter, at which URL. Without precise information we cannotinvestigate. I do not know what you mean by 'one way' and 'other way'.

Very nice site. Makes it very easy to check transits frequently. Way cool.

It's an amazing site. To me is a very important resource in my astrological resarches. I have a sujestion: why don't you put an article by Liz Greene about the twelve houses? It's just a sujestion. Thanks for the help you give us.

I think you do a serious and great job. I live in Rome, Italy and I would like to study phsycological astrology. Would you reccomend me a professor, school or address in Rome to start studying in a serious way?. Do you know if it is possible to follow some astrology distance courses from Switzerland or England?, Any other suggestion?. I really will appreciate your answer. Keep your good work on. Thanks

I'm addicted to your site. The aspect "Daily Cart" is fascinating. You must have a huge library of aspects that you interpret. I've learned alot about astrology and want to seek out more. Also, creating the charts is no bull. I haven't figured out why there are so many chart types, but that's what I mean when I say you're thorough. Keep up the good work!!

Thank you so much for the new possibility for
progressed charts for ANY given date.I was surpriced to see this because I didn't expect yo to honor my request. I use it to the full extend to learn more about past events and how to use the progressed chart.

The charts practically viewed my whole day, at first I thought that it would be a lot of nonsense but I decided to read my chart and it came of to be exactly like me. I was astonished!

I like the improvements you've made since I last came here, which was about 5 months ago. I like new daily horoscope and that you've added "event" to your charting (for horary astrology, right?). Blessings to your great site!

Recently begun serious study with a professional astrologer and have found your site tremendoously helpful. Thanks for making the charts avaiable at no charge. Being a poverty stricken college student, I cannot yet afford software, and your site makes it possible to continue my study of astrology. Very cool.

I think your charts and horoscopes are great. I want to know if the horoscope changes based upon living in a different time zone other than which you are born. If I enter my current area I get a different ascendent sign. Could you please answer!?

Alois adds: Your birth chart is impressed in your soul, one could say, and it goes with you wherever you go. It does not change.
Also transits, as used for the daily horoscope, MUST be done for the chart on basis of the real
birth time and place, always. They are affected in no way by the fact that
you live somewhere else.
Only if you want to look at the precise clock time
at which
a fast-moving transit occurs, it is CONVENIENT to see this clock time expressed
in a timezone you are familiar with. If you live in a different timezone
than your birth place, it is just CONVENIENT to see transit time EXPRESSED
in the clock time of this timezone. For this purpose, you can use the
LOCATION field in the data entry form, to set a location which is different
from your birth place.
This location is only used to compute these chart elements:
- clock times of transits in Daily Horoscope
- reference place for Solar Return and Lunar Return charts
- relocation place for Relocation charts.
- reference latitude for some types of Composite charts
Astrology does not have a unified doctrine though. You might find an
astrologer who will make different claims, and who will say that your
birth chart changes when you live somewhere else. I personally not believe it.
Your environment will change, but not the essential core of who you are.
I thinkk your charts and horoscopes are great...how does living in a totally different time zone affect your daily horoscope from that in which you were born? If I put my current area...I get a different ascendent. Please let me know if the other time zone info is accurate

Alois adds: Besides offering the Hindu sidereal zodiak in some chart types,
we have no specific Hindu-Astrology elements implemented in our software.
We also do not intend to do so, as the western and the Hindu system do not
mix well. It is better to stick with one or the other permanently, to get
consistent astrological information.
I think that there are many creative astrological programmers in your country
which will probably have to offer what you look for.
Thank you for the horoscope. Is it possible also to do the site in Dutch. Your site is oke. I have just started to learn of making a horoscope.
Who want's to send me an e-mail?

Alois adds: I am afraid we can only support our website in languages we can
handle ourselves. However, I have yet to meet a Dutch person incapable of
understanding either German or English. All I have met spoke both languages
pretty well. Languages like Spanish and French have a higher priority in our
plans, butr also there we need external voluntary help.
When I think of all the hours I've spent casting charts with books and pencil I think of what else could be done with those hours.

Many thanks for your great site, and its ease of use. I have turned several people on to it and will continue. Q: Some days the daily has hyper-links to aspects & some don't; whats up w/that?
Again, thanks for all the insightful info.

Alois adds: The hyperlinks were removed accidentally by a software update.
Once we were notified by users, we put them back in. They are intended to be
a permanent (and indeed important) feature of the Daily Horoscope.
I can hardly believe - but everyday you are right!
Usually I tend to read my horoscope in the evenings but it is always of a very complex matter and fits every time. Thank you for good advice.
