I have been using your database for a couple of years now and am so grateful for this resource and think the new charts for progressions and transits are very helpful. Also love the daily horoscope. I am a novice astrologer having had an interest since I was about 12 (all those 8th house planets I have I suppose!). I would really like to do a formal course and wonder if you can recommend one in London? I have ordered several readings from Astrodienst and my only disappointment was that I felt interpretations had been put into a data base for each type of transit/aspect and then reprinted. I felt that the whole astroscope lacked a complete personal consolidated interpretation. Is it possible to get a full astroscope personally done by Liz Greene? I'm a bit confused as to why western astrology uses the old house system. As I understand it, because of the slight shift of the earth's axes, the sunno longer enters aries on the vernal equinox etc.,whereas sidereal astrology has taken these changes into account and calculates charts according to actual astrological events. I don't know if I've got it right, but it seems strange that western astrology would base chart drawings on a system that is outdated. Could someone please explain the discrepncy? Very much appreciated, I'm experiencing a loss of faith!

Alois adds: It is the other way arounda Mainstream astrology is concerned with the rhythmic movement of our near cosmic environment, the planets in the Solar system. The basic rhythm for someoeone who lives on Earth is - besides the diurnal rotation of Earth - the annual cycle of the Sun. This Solar cycle is tuned to the equinoxes and solstitia as the major marking points on the path of the Sun. This is why we use tropical ecliptic coordinates, with a coordinate system startin at the Vernal Equinox point, which we call zero of Aries. FRor convenience, the whole 360 degree circle of the Sun's path was divided up into 12 sections of 30 degrees each, called the Sun signs. Nearly 2000 years ago, when this coordinate system was first put into writing, there was the fixed star constellation of Aries at the point in the sky where the Spring Equinox happened. The 12 sections of the Sun's path shared their names with the fixed star images humans imagined to to see in those areas of the sky. Due to the precession of the equinoxes the vernal point has moved against the fixed star background, and with it the rhythm of the Sun and the planets has moved away from the fixed star constellation which still carry the same names as the secions of the annual Solar path. This leads to a lot of confusion. It is the sidereal astrologers who im my opinion do not understand the matter correctly and stick to a coordinate reference (fixed star constallation of Aries) which since long does not coincide anymore with the rhythm of the Sun. Fixed stars are VERY far away and play little role in what forces we feel in our cosmic home, the Solar system. They were only name-givers for the sections of the Solar path 2000 years ago, nothing more. Vielen Dank fur das info! Is it possible to get an interpretation of my chart? The site is very good. But I find the forms on the new horoscope server are a little buggy. Sometimes the buttons don't work. Also it would be really nice if the daily horoscopes could be supplied for times in the current location rather than the birth location. Then I wouldn't have to add on hours to the times given and wait till late in the day to get the next horoscope.

Great site! Just one short comment: until a few years ago, Daylight Saving Time in Canada started somewhere in the middle of October rather than at the very end of the month. This means that someone born toward the end of October would have been born in Standard Time, not Daylight Saving, which your charts automatically use for their calculations. Maybe you would like to look into this?

This query may be too case-specific for you to advise to, but, can the influence of a sign ruler in any way lessen the hard aspect (of a square, for example) between an otherwise benign planet located therein and a planet which is the ruler of that sign. Take for example, Uranus in Libra, which is ruled by Venus, in square to Venus in Cancer: Is the square of less difficulty or ill-effects than, say, if the two planets were instead in Sagitarius and Virgo, respectively? Taken down a level, to decanates and subrulerships, would Pluto in the third decan of Virgo, which, so argued by many scholars, is subruled by Venus, in a square with Venus in the second decanate of Gemini, which is also subruled by Venus, be of greater benefit to the squareness than if the two planets were in, say, the first decans of Sagitarius and Virgo, respectively? My best, educated guess, is that, a square is a square; but, generally, aspects should be interpreted in length through the planets and into and up through the decans and signs and houses, involved, where, so the examples, above, lead, hard examples can be of less difficulty or detriment, considering the houses, decans, and signs, reigning. Is this a probable interpretation for a student of astrology? Thank you, immensely!

I want to especially thank you for this newest upgrade (I'm writing 11/99) that includes a 'daily horoscope' option that draws upon Robert Hand's superior book on transits. I have some squares to my merc in merc and the 'figuring' (maybe this is my libra moon) always drives me to distraction. It helps me check my own 'readings' much more quickly. Guten Tag, seit paar Wochen habe ich Probleme mit Horoskopen nach Walter Pullen, z.B. wenn ich Radix und Transite sehen will, kommen zweimal Transite aus (d.h. als Geburtsdatum wird der aktuelle Tag gezeigt) - auch wenn es bei den HQ Horospkopen mit derselben Dateneingabe richtig erscheint. It's a Godsend! I don't understand many of the different types of charts and options you offer, but I seem to learn what I need to learn in time. Right now I just discovered the Davison Relationship Chart. I did a chart for me and my Twin SoulMate, and when I saw it, it really stuck a chord of accuracy within me--an intuitive Knowing. It "felt" much more accurate than the basic composite chart I've got for Jon and me. I read about the Davison chart in your dictionary, but I didn't understand much of it. Would you be so kind as to e-mail me an explanation of the Davison chart, describing it in a way I might better understand? Also, if you have any comments re: why I strongly and instantaneously recognized that that chart better (more accurately) describes my relationship with my Twin SoulMate than does the composite chart, I'd be appreciative.

Alois adds: Dr Jonas, the inventor of this type of chart claimed that it indicates the gender of an embryo conceived at that time. I doubt it. Technically, it just indicates whether the Moon is in a male sign /Aries, Gemini, Leo, ..) or female sign (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, ...). If the Moon changes signs on that date, no indicator is given. Personallly I tend to believe that most of Jonas' claims are just hot air. What an awesome site!! I'm just beginning to learn more about astrology after 30 years profession as a psychic and therapist. Thank you for such a great resource!!

Alois adds: We did not block anything. It must be a problem on your end. Your program for constructing natal charts is outstanding. Indiana is a particularly difficult location for determining the proper time zone prior to 1966. Most programs and astrologers fail to understand the complexities involved. After checking my chart and several others against your program, I found absolutly no errors. That is a first. BRAVO!!

Alois adds: Thanks for the feedback. Most of your praise should go to Thomas Shanks, the author of the books 'American and and International Atlas' which he compiled while employed by ACS, San Diego. We have licensed the database from them, and added only updates for later years and for some areas of uncertainty. I must have 20 astrology sites bookmarked, this one is by far the best for charts. It helps me considerably since I am a beginner and I am acctually handwriting the charts first and using this site to double check calculations...I don't think I would continue into this interest without knowing I was getting the hang of it. Thank you from a 0 degree Aries with 5 other planets in Aries(patience is not my strong suit!).

Alois adds: There may be a misunderstanding. Just entering the second person's data does NOT AUTOMATICALLY bring up a partnership chart. It only enables additional options which appear in the chart type pulldown list. You must scroll down this list and choose the chart type you want. Still cannot access Pullen charts and, furthermore, I was amazed that your computer is suddenly calculating my ascendant to be Aquarius instead of Capricorn, which it and all others have had its being low these many years! What is going ON?

This is a wonderful site! The Natal Chart (Data Sheet) is lovely. However, I have a problem I created two charts (for myself) on Astrodienst; one was created using the option of having Daylight Savings Time automatically calculated, the other was created using the manual time option. It appears that the chart created with the automatic option is incorrect, if done properly the Universal Time should be one hour less--right? You can use my data for a test if you like: Date of Birth: August 10, 1961 Wyandotte (Wayne County), MI (US) 83W09, 42N13 Time: 11:29 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time I hope this information is useful and you able to correct the problem or inform me if I am using the system incorrectly. Thank you and I wish you continued success.

Alois adds: Our database is correct, daylight savings time did not apply in Wyandotte, Michigan on that date. After 1945 there was daylight savings time only in 1967 and then each year from 1973 onward. You should NEVER NEVER use manual timezone settings except when you have well documented proof that our database is incorrect. Then you should also send us the proof, so that we can fix the error. I cannot call up any charts tonight. Thought you might want to know about the problem. Thanks.

Hi folks thanks for the great chart. Question: I'm a scorpio rising with an aquarius (happens to be my sun---2-6-68, 1:16 am EST)) leo interception in the 3rd/9th house. I've been reading Avery's Rising Signs and am confused as to whether her equal house overlay is at all applicable in my case, since her natural house resonances don't line up with my houses in most cases. (i.e. I have Scorpio in my first AND twelfth houses, too, NOT libra) Help I'm sinking!

Thanks for your fabulous website! Some months ago I entered data for a birth in Cincinnati Ohio on Nov. 21, 1946 at 3:19 a.m. The Astrodienst chart indicated an ASC of 8 degrees Libra. Now you are showing a 20 degress Libra Asc for the same data. The 8 degress is correct for sure. Many years ago I worked with an astrologer in Cincinnati who knew all of the idiosynchracies of the time changes in the Midwest. Thank you.

The time zone change your atlas gave me for Weston, Ontario for August 21, 1971 doesn't jive with AFA's "Time Changes in Canada and Mexico". I use your site to check these things out as I understand your atlas is accurate. In this case it appears to be wrong. There may well be towns with the same name in two countries, and only one of them listed in our database. Our program does not only consider a signle day, when it evaluates the personal transits, but actually analyses a full year, finding a transit for every day of the year. It is the same program which produces the one-year Personal Horoscope Calendar. Now, Jupiter Opp. Sun is a slow transit with a duration of several weeks. This transit will be discussed on one of the days when it is active, not on every day of the active period. When you do your personal transits daily, you will find it discussed on one of these days. I know this is not fully satisfying. We are working on an extended version of the online program where you will be able to click on any of tghe list of transits shown to get the text for them. I Just love this site, keep up the good work.

Two charts at the same time at different locations in thed same timezone have the same Universal Time (UT or GMT), and therefore the same geocentric planetary positions. In Holland there was from 1909 till 1937 the Amsterdamse Time = 4 grades.53'Eastern Length After than we become the "Loenense Time" from1 juni1937 till 15 may 1940 with the summer time. After this period we got the M.E.T. 15 degreeds.00 min Eastern Length with periods with summertime and not. My question is now: Did you put this in your timetabels, because I dont know if your horoscoop from 07-09-1937 has the correct timetabele for Holland, because my ascendant differs from other horoscoops with the same input. Alois adds: A good question. Our charts are besed on the Swiss Ephemeris calculation module which is good between 5400 BC and 5000 AD. Please check the Swiss Ephemeris area at www.astro.com/swisseph for more information. Fabulous site filled with wonderful possibilities. This is so much easier than doing charts by hand. Bless you!

Alois adds: The Davison Relationship charts is doen for the point in time and space exactly between the birthdate and place of both partners. If you are born on Jan 1 1970, and you partner is born on July 1 1976, then the relationship chart will be done for tha date exactly in the middle, about 1 April 1973 (the computer does the middle precisely, including time). As a place for the chart the place in the middle between your two b irth towns will be used. The composite chart is a totally different matter, it works with midpoints between each pair of planets from both natal charts. Please study the astrological literature for more information. You will find a lot about the composite but not much about the Davison relationship chart, though the method is older. I think that this service is great and I will definatly get the book! I looked at my personal chart but im unsure of what time I was born, how much will this effect the reading? I would also like some help in interpreting my chart and what the other charts available could show. Thanks.

Alois adds: I am afraid that none of our reports can be done without a birth time which is precise at least within half an hour. I tried two different times, to cast a Natal Chart with Transits with my accurate birth data, which has before been correct on your site and I found the charts that kept appearing were calculated wrong. Birthdate: 9/28/39, Jacksonville, Fl, 10:20 PM & it is 4* Cancer rising. Astrodienst Chart kept coming up; 20* Gemini. Thought you might like to know about this. I tried 1st time around 12midnight, S.F., Ca. time & then again, about 12:30AM. I am curious as to why this mistakes in rising degrees ocurred? Thank you so much for all your Services. Alma Jean Alois adds: According to 'The American Atlas' by Thomas Shanks, our main timezone source, Florida was on EST timezone at that date, no daylight savings time. This gives a 20 Gemini Ascendant. If someone comes up with a different result, he/she used either a different timezone (which we believe wrong) or made a computation error. I hink the new system is too slow to respond you should have kept the old one too (Regarding atlas) Thanks

Since discovering this site about 4 months I have visited it regularly!!!!!!!! It takes a lot of work out calculating. Compared to the last site, I suppose it is a bit more hidden, but essentially the same. So I do not think it is harder to use only a little for beginners to discover.

Liz Greene's books have really been a great source of inspiration and understanding for me."Relating", "The Astrology of Fate","Astrology for Lovers" and especially "Saturn" are the books I constantly use as a source of study. I also have a computer horoscope from Para research that was done in the 70's which I have used over the years. Also I was wondering since my two children, ages 13 and 10 both have ascendents and the sun in the same signs, if anyone has noticed this phenomenon occuring more often. It makes rather pronounced individuals.
